The Dungeon Tree

Chapter 266: Rescue Operation

The large tornado in the distance was throwing debris all around the sky, forcing me to use small explosions to redirect myself and avoid any collisions. As I flew forward, a giant tree trunk was sent flying towards me. Reacting quickly, I aimed both my palms down and fired an explosion which launched me over the tree.

"What kind of monster warrants a spell like this? Maybe this is the third monster leader?" I asked myself, moving over to the side to avoid a boulder.

As I moved closer to the tornado, I could just barely make out a large piece of land with two figures fighting each other atop it. One of the figures looked like the previous monster Steven faced while the other looked a lot more human.

"I guess I know which one I'm after!" I said to myself, firing off an explosion which sent me straight through the tornado and right next to a giant monster.

Before the monster even had time to look at me, I repositioned my body and slammed my leg into its face. The sheer impact of my kick sent the monster flying towards the end of the platform.

"John?!" A familiar voice called out.

When my feet finally touched the ground, I looked over and saw Felix staring at me with a baffled expression. He was all battered in bruises and was holding onto his right arm which looked to have a large scratch mark on it.

"Considering the state you're in, want me to take over from here?" I asked, turning my body towards the monster and readying Genki but still keeping eye contact with Felix.

"Nah, I'll be fine. Besides, I wanna get payback for what this thing did to me by at least tenfold!" Felix let go of his right arm and aimed his left hand towards the monster.

As the monster began charging towards the two of us, razor sharp winds appeared before Felix's hand. The intensity of the wind came to a sudden stop when Felix took a deep breath. He stretched his left arm backwards before suddenly thrusting it forward, sending a huge gust of wind right towards the monster.

The strong winds crashed into the monster, sending it flying into the strong winds of the tornado. With how fast the winds were going, I ended up losing track of where the monster went. With how violent the winds were, I doubt we'd have to worry about the monster coming back anyway.

"Woah! What kind of spell is that?" I asked, my eyes sparking from curiosity.

"It's not a spell. My magic just allows me to control the wind without needing to cast anything. Only to a certain extent though." Felix said, taking a deep breath before stepping into a normal stance.

"What about the tornado around us? Is this just you controlling the wind or is this a spell?" I asked.

"This is a spell. What you saw now was the strongest move I can perform without needing to cast a spell."

"So what's the difference between you casting a spell and just controlling the wind?"

"Without casting a spell, I can only use what wind is available to me within a certain radius. Casting wind spells creates wind for me to use, but it disappears after usage."

"That's pretty useful. Any chance someone like me can learn how to do that?" I pointed at myself.

Felix shook his head, "nope. You gotta be born with this ability."

I closed my eyes and let out a disappointed sigh. In the brief moment I had my eyes closed, I felt the presence of something strong approaching from behind me. I felt a jolt rush through my body, causing me to instinctively turn around.

"What the?" Despite the powerful presence I had just felt, there was nothing there.

"Everything alright?" Felix gave me an odd look.

"Yeah, sorry. Must've been the wind or something."

Felix gave me a cold look before turning away from me, "I'm going to deactivate my spell now. It won't be an instant thing so we'll be able to reach the ground safely. I just gotta concentrate really hard."

"That's a relief. Once that happens, I'll finally be able to take you to the village."

"There's a village here?"

My words must've unintentionally broken Felix's concentration because what was supposed to be a nice slow trip down to the ground had now become a quick plummet.

"I hate my stupid mouth!"

"Me too!"
