Chapter 38: Chapter- 37 take to one's heels [1] Ø
{"What?"}
I didn't ask this in response to her previous statement; no, it was more about the garments that draped her body.
They were mine, but… they didn't belong to my current incarnation.
Confused, I moved toward her for several more seconds before I asked,
{"Let me rephrase my question, Did I know you?"} Edward asked confused
Upon hearing the question, her expression remained stoic. She merely gave a nod and offered a feeble wave.
"Till we meet again." With those parting words, I abruptly woke up.
To who she was, that would have been obvious to any normal person. But Edward, who found the thought too foreign never stumbled upon the truth.

Opening my eyes, I found myself relapsed and assaulted by horrid memories. My demented demeanor resurfaced, and that eerie smile began to forcefully carve into my features. I tried to resist the abyss, but its strength further waned my sanity.
"Damn it," I muttered as I squirmed on the ground in a fetal position.
Gritting my teeth I was able to regain control.
It was a feeble attempt, but I managed to regain control of my sanity. I needed to; something was coming.
Several dozen miles away from my collapsed figure, hid a colossal being made of earth, its vast form concealed by the dense vegetation surrounding it. The once-serene environment began to shift and churn. Trees started to uproot and the ground became unstable. Something was moving.
As it opened its eyes, a pair of ethereal golden pupils were revealed.
The Earth Sentinel sensed an intruder within its domain.
Earth or Elemental Sentinels—no one knows why these beings exist. Only those who reside in the spirit realm are aware of their existence. They are parasitic creatures birthed from the abundant spiritual residue within the spirit realm. Over time, as energy clumps together and undergoes immense pressure, the area housing this energy eventually gains animation.
These beings come in four ranks: Templar, Adept, High Adept, and Tyrant. The element does not matter.
Elemental Sentinels wreak havoc within the spirit realm and can only be destroyed by depleting their spiritual core's power. However, destroying an Elemental Sentinel's core only serves as a temporary hindrance, providing merely seconds of relief.
The only entities capable of effectively erasing an Elemental Sentinel's existence are the Spirit Kings.
Yet even Spirit Kings would need to work in unison to eliminate a Terror-ranked Sentinel, and defeating a High Adept would prove challenging to a single Spirit King.
Beings of the high Adept, and tyrant rank are extremely rare, but when they do appear, their strength is comparable to that of the Demon Kings.
Such a terror could mark the end of a Spirit king's reign.
Many have…
The being that Edward had disturbed was a low-level High Adept-ranked Sentinel.

Elevating its vast body rose a being of staggering height, its gate stood hundreds of feet in elevation. Rubble and earth tumbled off the giant's body.
Turning its body it faced Edward's direction.
Hence it started to stride.
Crash! Boom! Thump!
The Sentinels' footsteps echoed around the mountain ridge, each slow step caving the ground and releasing large shock waves comparable to weaker earthquakes.
Clouds of dust erupted from the impact.
Several miles distant Edward finally stood.
Standing up he froze in a flight or fight response. He could barely breathe, and a quaint tune started to fill his mind 'Run! Run! Run! Run! Run! Run!…'
His instincts told him that attack was futile and death was imminent.
My heart rate increased, my eyes turned bloodshot, and my pupils narrowed to a ballpoint, and my body where shivering persisted, but not that of pleasure….
Fear,
my body's muscles clenched preparing to flee but not, was this what that little girl felt…. Pondering for several seconds I had to reply "That's not the problem right now," my tone was one of nonchalance that contrasted with what I truly felt.
A vast shadow loomed over the distance, killing intent drenched in the color green blanketed over the region.
This is only a 'High Adept' Sentinel and it was over ten miles away. Edward obviously had no idea what it was. Not a soul on Earth (except for Spirits) knows what an Elemental sentinel is nor would they care to know, because no organism from Earth should be able to enter the spirit realm.
Edward was an anomaly & for a reason an exception to this rule.
He watched as the titan's silhouette loomed closer and he observed the amount of force exerted from each of those steps.
Clouds of dust started to form, and the mountain's summit was no more.
The spiritual energy surrounding started to run rampant, chaos, this energy was a contradiction to the conventional peaceful and tranquil primordial Spiritual energy.
Run!
Finally heeding his mind's pleas Edward did not stretch his time any longer, de-manifesting Durandral Edward placed Azphel into the crudely hand-crafted sheath and ran.
Boom!
Using the vast river of Ice essence within his mana paths, Edward started to focus on guiding the chilled energy toward his heart. He was going to forcibly resonate his heart and mana to create the fifth star of the White Flame Formula.
What he was doing was extremely reckless and if failed his body's energy would run rampant leading to an implosion, killing him.
This technique was similar to Hero Hamel Diaz's mana overloading skill, but it could only be used once and was not as simple; it required the user to make immense calculations to stabilize the energy and distribute excess through the body.
An inferno of pain erupted, muscle fibers were being torn internals started to overheat my body was on the verge of collapse but I wanted to persist,
"This is not pain, No, if I can survive I can return home to Ciel & Cyan," Edward said whilst sprinting with his life, his Star's creation was looming and soon he would be able to summon a spell to hasten his speed…
To Edward, only 4 months have passed since the day he departed from the Lionheart Estate, but the Spirit realm experiences a dilation in time, the time dilation is a 1:12 ratio, per 1 month within the Spirit realm correlates to 12 months in the overworld.
Three years and eight months have passed since Edward's death was confirmed by the Black Lions, his corpse was never found along with Azphel; the only thing that pointed towards his death was a bloodied garment with the Lionheart Sigle.

A memory of the past - 3 years and 8 months prior
A funeral took place, the day was gleaned, and the sky clouded, the vibrant rays of the sun blocked giving a dimmed contrast of gray in the estate. A distinct aura surrounded every guest, most had agendas.
Some held hatred, others ellipsed sorrow, and those whom envied Edward were glad at his death, but annoyed they had to attend the event. They would rather party at the youth's sudden death.
Gilead (the patriarch) had tears welling in his eyes but had to remain stoic during the ordeal, his heart was heavy with grief. Ciel had a blank face that was used as a redharing to hide her inner turmoil. Knotted emotions of hate, emerged with sorrow and confusion ', she had told Edward to speak to her if he would do anything reckless, yet he did not.
Her fists clenched with rage, she didn't believe Edward was dead, she wanted to make him pay
Cyan was at a loss for words. He cared for Edward but he had left so abruptly, he was confused as to how he should feel.
Edward's biological mother Tanis held little sediment towards his death and so , neither did Ancilla the concubine. Ancilla had feigned to care for Edward but her true intention was to use him to secure a marriage with Ciel. Fortunately that plan fell apart when Edward died.
Carmen stood there her heart heavy as she watched two Black Lions gently lower his empty coffin into the ground. Her striking gold eyes reflected a mix of respect admiration and a touch of regret.
Carmen, though a chunni, still loved the boy truly.
Even though her body appeared young and beautiful she had actually lived for more than a century.
Throughout her long life Carmen had witnessed the loss of many lives. She had also taken lives herself leaving her hands stained with a deep crimson
Throughout her long life Carmen had witnessed countless people die; she had killed countless people, and her hands were stained with a deep crimson. Her time with the Black Lions, the Hunting dogs of the Lionheart name, left her feeling even more numb.
So as she watched people give their sediments she scoffed. Carmen knew most of these vile bastards were two-faced and only came out at the request of the Patriarch.
Taking the cigar from her mouth Carmen offered her own sediment.

'We still need to find that sword'
