Chapter 18: As Expected of You, Itsuki
Miku was holding a meal tray and couldn't help but glance at Haruto, noticing that he was eating with his head down, not even looking her way.
"Guilty!"
Miku turned toward the usual table where the quintuplets sat.
Nino looked up and said helplessly, "Miku, you're too slow!"
"Sorry." Miku softly replied and sat next to Itsuki.
Itsuki puffed her cheeks, with most of the food on her plate already gone.
"Did Miku just see Kuromori-kun?" Ichika asked with a smile.
Miku's face warmed a little, and she lowered her head, her bangs covering her right eye, as she coldly said, "No."
Nino sipped her milk tea and hummed, "That guy's bad news, Miku. Don't get too close to him."
Miku felt unhappy, but out of guilt, she didn't argue for a moment. Besides, considering the situation where she almost lost her first kiss earlier, maybe Nino was right.
Otherwise, how could someone casually have such intimate contact with a girl?
At that moment, a sweet voice chimed in: "Mhm... Kuromori-san isn't that bad..."
Miku was a little surprised and looked at Yotsuba.
"Huh?"
Nino was stunned for a moment and then angrily said, "Yotsuba, why are you defending that guy!"
Ichika blinked her eyes, placing her finger on her shiny cherry lips, and said playfully, "It seems like Yotsuba actually knows Kuromori-kun quite well..."
Itsuki opened her eyes wide and looked at Yotsuba with her puffed cheeks.
"It's fine!" Yotsuba smiled brightly and firmly said, "Because Kuromori-san recognized us, he must be someone very attentive."
"Someone that attentive surely can't be a bad person, right?"
"Hmph, that means nothing!" Nino retorted, "He's a notorious delinquent at Sobu High. If you get too close to him, you'll definitely get bullied!"
"Nino, I remember you're into guys like Kuromori-kun, right?" Ichika teased with a grin.
Nino's face turned red, and she angrily said, "Ichika, stop saying nonsense! There's no way I like him!"
She had a bit of a rebellious side, so she was into bad boys who looked very handsome. And Haruto happened to fit that type perfectly.
Itsuki put down her chopsticks. "I've finished my meal, but you still have a lot left. Do you need my help?"
"...As expected of Itsuki."
"Ichika, I feel like you're mocking me."
"I'm not."
"Really?"
"Of course, Itsuki's the cutest."
"..."
Anyway, thanks to Itsuki's interruption, the topic ended there.

After school in the afternoon, Itsuki looked at Haruto with anticipation. "Kuromori-kun, can we go to the library to study together?"
Haruto suddenly remembered that he seemed to have promised to help Itsuki with her homework.
"Let's go!"
Haruto didn't refuse and walked toward the library first.
"Wait a minute."
Itsuki pulled out a meat bun, and when Haruto glanced at her, her face turned slightly red as she whispered, "If I don't eat something, I'll feel dizzy and weak."
"..."
Haruto's mouth twitched slightly. If he remembered correctly, this girl had already eaten a snack after the first class.
Only two more hours until lunch—how long had it been, and she was already hungry again?
Haruto covered his forehead and quickly said, "I'll head to the library and wait for you."
The ahoge on Itsuki's head wobbled, and she cheerfully said, "Thanks, Kuromori-kun."
❀❀❀
The library.
Since the semester had just started, few students came to study or read at the library, and the large space was quiet.
Haruto sent a message to Yotsuba, informing her that he was helping Itsuki with lessons and delaying their plans until five o'clock.
After a while, Itsuki arrived at the library, and Haruto regretted it.
This girl was completely hopeless at studying!
Haruto was the second-best student at Sobu High, but he didn't even know where to begin.
"Sorry… It's all my fault!"
Itsuki lowered her head in embarrassment and shyly said, "I don't know why. I clearly pay attention in class, but I just can't understand."
Haruto covered his forehead and said, "I get it. In short, your situation is quite complicated, and you need to build a stronger foundation."
Itsuki immediately stood up, bowed, and said seriously, "As long as classmate Haruto helps me with my homework, I'll do anything!"
'I didn't agree to this!'
Just as Haruto was about to speak, his eyes were suddenly caught by a flash of pure white softness, and faintly, a hint of pink could be seen.
But before he could see more, a hand blocked his view.
Itsuki's face flushed, and she panicked, "Kuromori-kun, that kind of thing isn't allowed!"
"..."
Haruto cleared his throat and said, "Anyway, that's enough for today, and we'll talk about this tomorrow."
"Thank you, Kuromori-kun."
Itsuki sighed in relief, a happy smile on her face. As expected, Haruto was a good person!
Itsuki happily went home while Haruto waited for Yotsuba at the school gate.
"Kuromori-san, I'm here!"
Soon, Yotsuba ran over, her face bright and cheerful.
"Yotsuba, let's go!"
"Mm."
Yotsuba glanced at Haruto and curiously asked, "Kuromori-san, are you really tutoring Itsuki?"
"Yeah."
Haruto nodded slightly, looking at Yotsuba, and casually asked, "Itsuki's grades are really bad. What about yours, Yotsuba?"
An embarrassed expression appeared on Yotsuba's face, and after hesitating for a moment, she said, "Actually, my grades are bad too."
"They should be better than Itsuki's, right?"
Haruto wasn't familiar with the Nakano quintuplets' situation and hadn't paid much attention to them.
Normally, Itsuki's exam results were already beyond "bad."
It was a disaster!
So, Haruto didn't think anyone could do worse than Itsuki.
Even though Yotsuba was bad at math, how bad could it be?
"I'm worse than Itsuki."
"Oh, right. I'm afraid there wouldn't be anyone worse than—"
Haruto suddenly realized what she had said and stared at Yotsuba with wide eyes, "What did you just say?"
Yotsuba was a little embarrassed but still smiled brightly, "My grades are worse than Itsuki's. In fact, not just me—Ichika, Nino, and Miku are all about the same…"
"So, we're divided into five equal parts!"
"..."
Haruto fell silent.
He looked at Yotsuba's bright smile, stayed quiet for a while, then turned away and muttered, "Idiot."
"Huh?"
Yotsuba looked up with wide eyes, "Kuromori-san, did you just call me an idiot?"
"NO."
"I heard it!"
"You heard wrong."
"Clearly, Kuromori-san is bullying me. I'm not an idiot."
Haruto sighed, looking straight ahead, and said, "Let's just go and solve Rikka's issue as soon as possible."
