Chapter 9: Chapter 9. Konoha Youth Speaks
Chapter 9. Konoha Youth Speaks
---
Root ninjas?
Could Danzo be coming to borrow money?!
This was all Uchiha Yuto could think of; otherwise, he couldn't figure out why the Root ninjas would be paying attention to an ordinary rich man like him.
It couldn't possibly be because he was too close to the top spy in Root, right?
Of course, he didn't take it to heart. As long as he didn't make any mistakes, Danzo wouldn't make a move on him. As for spreading rumors like they did with Sakumo… well, sorry, he was just an ordinary boss who owned a few milk tea shops.
The next day.
Morning.
Uchiha Yuto once again came to the milk tea shop and was surprised to see the place full of noisy people.
Why were there so many people today?
He didn't remember assigning so many people to the task!
Moreover…
Minato didn't seem to be leading the group today.
Was he too tired last night? Probably couldn't get up!
Yuto saw Obito, still full of energy, once again challenging Kakashi and acting extremely arrogant in front of his friends.
Uchiha Yuto showed a fatherly smile and patted Obito's head. "Obito, did you bring all your friends here today to play? Come, come! Uncle Sato, bring some snacks and treats for the kids." Then, ignoring Obito's confused and irritated expression, he patted his head kindly again. "You get the day off today. I'll talk to your team leader later. Remember to have fun."
Afterwards, without paying attention to the wide-eyed kids, he headed into the office.
By giving Obito fatherly love, letting him enjoy the luxurious lifestyle of a rich second-generation kid, and corrupting his innocent heart with money, Yuto hoped to see if, when Obito lost his girlfriend, he would still feel heartbroken.
After all, with enough money… a certain toad could introduce him to many more girlfriends, teaching him that his first love was something to keep in his heart. He could be angry, he could be sad, but there was no need to destroy the world, kill his father and mother, and wipe out innocent people along the way.
I am your godfather, after all!
When Yuto entered, except for Kakashi and Rin, who already knew, the other friends were stunned.
"Obito! Your dad?" Asuma, who already had a thick beard despite his young age, threw his arm around Obito's shoulder, filled with envy and jealousy. "No wonder we're cleaning the sewers while you guys are sitting here drinking milk tea. So this is what fatherly love feels like?" He sighed. "Why doesn't my old man treat me this well? And why didn't you tell us earlier? If I had known this was your shop, would I have waited in line for seven hours to buy Kurenai's milk tea last time?"
He could've just gone through the back door!
"It's not! And don't call me Obito!" Obito's mouth twitched.
So frustrating!
Sure, the guy was rich, but who is he?
How could he, Uchiha Obito, who is destined to become Hokage, call someone "dad" just because of a few bucks?
"Isn't he though? I'm pretty familiar with that look in his eyes." Asuma furrowed his brows slightly.
His old man had that same look, though it was usually before he was about to beat him.
"And if he's not your dad, why is he so nice to you?"
"He's just crazy." Obito proudly lifted his head. "He's taken a liking to my talent and wants to adopt me, let me inherit his fortune."
"Heh." Asuma gave Obito a sideways glance, clearly not buying it.
How could they believe that?
This guy, talented?
What talent? Fire jutsu that chokes himself? Throwing kunai that stabs his own finger? Or taijutsu that trips him up?
"It's true, he's not Obito's father," Rin, who had a gentle demeanor, seemed to sense Obito's confusion and softly explained. "He's a member of the Uchiha clan, but for some reason…" She glanced at Obito. "Maybe he's just joking around."
As soon as Rin finished her words.
"All right, kids!" Uncle Sato had already brought out the snacks, cheerfully saying, "Go ahead and eat!" After speaking, he glanced at Obito with curiosity. "Tsk, tsk, tsk~"
Shaking his head, he headed back into the kitchen.
"Take a good rest today. No idea what Boss Yuto sees in you, kid!"
Once again.
Everyone silently stared at Obito.
After a while.
"Obito, why don't you just accept it?" Asuma rubbed his chin with a serious expression. "Then we could come here and drink milk tea for free."
For some reason, every time they passed by the shop, as long as they had money in their pockets, they felt an urge to come in and buy a cup.
"Get lost!" Obito yelled. "Who wants to acknowledge him as a father?"
Was the Hokage's son really this shameless?
After some bickering under Kakashi's calm gaze, the group finally settled down and started enjoying the milk tea.
"Mmm~ This is really good! Plus, it has pudding and taro! A cup like this costs as much as a deluxe bowl of char siu ramen." Shiranui Genma wiped his mouth. "He's treating so many of us to milk tea and snacks. Obito, are you sure he's not your dad?"
"I already told you, he's not!" Obito grumbled, then lazily slumped over the table. "Lately, my grandma's been going out early and coming home late. I don't even know what she's been up to."
There were noticeably fewer elderly crossing the streets these days too.
"Maybe it's some kind of seniors' activity? I heard a lot of the elderly joined in."
Asuma nodded. "They just sing and play that game with the feathered shuttlecock. It looks pretty boring."
There was one thing he didn't mention.
A bunch of old folks wearing those outfits... Honestly, he had to wash his eyes for a long time that night.
With a complaining tone, he added, "Who came up with that idea anyway?"
Weren't the elderly supposed to sit in their courtyards, bask in the sun, and leisurely enjoy afternoon tea?
"I think it's nice. Everyone seems happy," Rin said softly, but no one paid attention.
Everyone just wanted to complain right now.
Then the handsome boy, Mizuki, chimed in, "I heard it was organized by the Uchiha clan."
And then.
Everyone silently looked at Obito.
Obito also remained silent for a moment, then reluctantly nodded. "I asked about it, and yes, it was him! Uchiha Yuto! That guy's the one who got the clan to organize it!"
It's even made it impossible for him to have a meal with his grandma lately.
But his grandma seemed really happy every day.
Frustrated, Obito grumbled, "Ugh, I haven't had a hot, freshly cooked meal in days."
After he said this.
Suddenly, the atmosphere grew quiet. Obito looked up in confusion, seeing his friends staring at him in shock. "What's wrong?"
"What did you just call him?" Asuma raised an eyebrow, looking at Obito in disbelief.
"Uchiha Yuto!" Obito naturally pointed to the name on the sign. "Yuto! Isn't it written right there?"
"Uchiha Yuto?!" The voices rose in unison!
"Uchiha Yuto!"
"Uchiha Yuto??"
"Are you serious?" Obito rolled his eyes. "I already said it!"
"Don't you think that name sounds really familiar?"
"???"
"Do you know who wrote Konoha Youth Speaks?" Genma sipped his milk tea slowly. "And have you heard of My Konoha, My Hokage?"
"That sounds really familiar!" Obito paused, trying to remember. "Where did I hear that?"
"To read the full article, please answer the following questions: One, when was the Third Hokage's wife born? Two, what's the central theme of the entire piece?"
"What the hell!" Obito froze, shivering as if he remembered something terrible.
"Don't bother asking him," Asuma said casually, picking his nose. "This guy never passed that class!"
"...?" Genma stared silently at Asuma.
Are you even qualified to say that?
"Did you even get any points?"
"Don't judge me like this! I got two points on that essay!"
"...Did you get the first question right?"
"Y-yes!"
