Chapter 55: Chapter 55: Blonde Maids (2)
"Wait… seriously? Someone did that?" Jeanne questioned, her face filled with disbelief and shock.
"Indeed. Someone did that about three thousand years ago…" came the calm response from the only black-haired devil in the room as she stepped forward.
"Master~~~ you didn't say you would be bringing any... living souvenirs…" the devil added in a teasing, but ominous tone.
Both Le Fay and Jeanne instinctively gulped. How could someone be both this cute and this terrifying at the same time?
'So, this is Serafall Leviathan,' Jeanne thought to herself, recalling the rumors about the devil. She had heard stories of Serafall cosplaying as a magical girl and acting cute, but seeing her in person was an entirely different experience.
"Jeanne over there holds the soul of the Saint Joan of Arc… she will be going directly under you, Grayfia. You will teach her how to be a maid. If it's not up to my satisfaction, I can always remove the gear and dispose of her."
Jeanne's face went completely pale at the casual mention of her potential disposal. This guy was too terrifying to even contemplate.
"I won't disappoint! S-Should I call you Master or... Lord!?" Jeanne quickly added, remembering how Le Fay had called Marcus "Master" earlier. The thought of addressing someone her age with such titles felt absurd, especially when she remembered that this person had already wiped out the Hero Faction.
"Both… doesn't matter which one," Marcus replied nonchalantly. "Anyways, this witch-looking girl is Le Fay Pendragon. Assuming she inherited the magical side of the Arthurian Legends."
Le Fay, who had been silently processing everything, immediately bowed with respect to the two powerful devils.
"She will be a maid, and will also be assisting me with human-related magic," Marcus continued.
Le Fay almost floated in the air with joy upon hearing that. She was helping the second coming of Solomon himself—someone who was practically a god to magical cabals and organizations. To serve him was the pinnacle of her career, as far as she was concerned.
"I understand. I won't disappoint you," Grayfia replied, her red eyes scrutinizing the two blondes intensely. Her gaze felt like it could cut through them both, making them feel uncomfortable and small under her assessment. This was the Strongest Queen of the devils—if looks could kill, they'd be dead already.
"Good. Now, come in, I'm going to prepare the contracts for you two," Marcus said, gesturing for them to follow him.
The older blonde, Jeanne, looked around the room with growing wonder and awe.
This place truly looks like a supervillain base! she thought, but with a more technical twist. It was like the garage of one—filled with advanced tech and odd, intricate machines.
A holographic display flickered to life, revealing futuristic-looking computers and robotic hands working on a table. The air was thick with a sense of advanced engineering and magic combined.
"I suppose I should tell you some things before Master comes back," Serafall suddenly said, her tone diplomatic, though laced with an underlying authority.
"Umm? Like what? I suppose I should know his schedule and such, yes?" Jeanne asked, uncertain. She had never been a maid, but she had seen enough of them in action to know a bit about protocol.
"That is… well… our Master is very… pragmatic, I suppose?" Serafall said, unsure how to fully describe Marcus's nature.
"We… experienced it ourselves. He dealt with our group in less than five minutes… the only survivor is my brother… because I offered myself in exchange for his life," Le Fay added quietly, her face downcast as she remembered the massacre.
"Arthur Pendragon?" Serafall asked, raising an eyebrow, her expression thoughtful.
"Yes… I left a note, basically a short summary of what happened before I was taken away," Le Fay continued, her hands fiddling nervously with her robes as she spoke.
"Did you tell Master that you left a note?" Grayfia's piercing gaze locked onto Le Fay, her words making the young witch freeze in place.
'This woman… how can a Lucifuge serve a human with such intensity?' Jeanne thought, her surprise evident. She never expected a devil to serve a human so passionately.
"Umm...yes, I told him, and he even watched me leave the note... he approved of it…" Le Fay explained quickly under Grayfia's unwavering gaze.
"Good. Our Master was with Serafall for over four years. She tested his patience enough. I suggest not hiding anything from him. It's pointless, especially in this place," Grayfia said coldly. "This is the heart of his control. The workshop has Pantheon-level security. You can't escape this house or even this nation without him knowing. He will find you. And if you try, it will either be me or Serafall who will hunt you down. Believe me… we can't say no to him. Even if we wanted to."
The words sent a chill down both of their spines. They were prisoners, whether they liked it or not.
"It's Pantheon-level security, Grayfia. Master tripled the output of the Diamond Core Heart. Now the whole nation can enter lockdown mode," Serafall added smugly, her eyes gleaming with pride.
"Truly? I guess I was outdated then. I didn't know Master had increased security to this extent," Grayfia remarked indifferently.
Meanwhile, Le Fay and Jeanne struggled to process what they had just heard. Pantheon-level security? Triple the power of a Pantheon-level core? Pantheons were typically located in other dimensions—How could this place be this secure? Was it all barriers? Where were they?
Le Fay attempted to sense the magic in the air, but all she could tell was that the magic was overwhelming, thick in the atmosphere.
Can he turn the ambient magic into barriers? Just how powerful are these Diamond Cores? she wondered.
"Indeed, after the whole incident with Artemis and her hunt, he decided to increase the radius of the third layer. Anyway, since you know it's pointless to run, I can assume that Master will be giving you both some devil-like contracts…" Serafall continued, her gaze fixed on the two women.
Jeanne didn't want to think about what had happened with Artemis, but she had a sinking feeling that she would soon learn what Marcus had done to the goddess.
Right… a man-hating goddess hunting him down? Jeanne mused, feeling a strange sense of intrigue and dread at the same time.
Le Fay, however, already knew. She knew that Marcus, with his immense power, had taken control of Artemis, the Moon Goddess, and rendered her powerless, making her feel useless.
"Right… I'm done! Here are the contracts. Read them," Marcus said, entering the room with a set of papers in his hands.
Both Le Fay and Jeanne quickly sat up straighter, instinctively following Grayfia's cold gaze. It was as if their survival depended on it. They began reading the contracts with serious attention, knowing their futures rested in these agreements.
