Chapter 48: Chapter 48: The Hunt (3)
Artemis (POV)
'THAT BRAT! THAT HUMAN BRAT! I WILL KILL HIM! I WILL TURN HIM INTO A RODENT AND SQUEEZE THE VERY LIFE OUT OF HIM!'
The Moon Goddess glared at the sky with an expression bordering on madness. Never in her entire existence had anyone dared to toy with her like this.
After blowing up several trees with raw divine power, she finally managed to calm herself for a moment.
She realized with growing dread that the human brat knew how to seal her powers. That was the reason he wasn't afraid when she brought her entire pantheon down on him.
This realization was both disturbing and frustrating, but she refused to admit it. There was no way she would ever tell anyone that a human had reduced her to nothing more than a plaything.
No, she would find a different way.
Assuming that it was his armor that allowed him to seal her powers, Artemis reasoned that the solution was simple: find him outside of that armor.
'Yes. I need to track down where he lives, hunt him down, and humiliate that brat the same way he humiliated me!' she thought, the flames of vengeance burning in her chest.
She paused for a moment, contemplating further. The brat's behavior reminded her of that devilish freak who had invented the Evil Pieces. If that were the case, then the brat likely had more tricks up his sleeve.
'Heh... if that's true, I can use that to draw him out. I'll offer him something he can't resist—something that guarantees a duel of pure skill. No tricks. No toys. Just pure combat.'
The silver-haired goddess's mind raced, constructing her plan for revenge. She didn't bother questioning whether or not her assumptions were correct; all she knew was that the brat had dangerous abilities, and now she wanted him to pay.
After making up her mind, Artemis set her mission in motion. When was the last time she had to track a mere human?
Whistle
The sound of wolves howling echoed through the forest, and above-average-sized wolves began to gather around her.
"Find him for me. No matter what," Artemis ordered in a cold, commanding voice. "I need to know where he lives."
The wolves nodded in unison and began sniffing the air, searching for any trace of the human's scent.
After a few moments, they shook their heads.
"...Grrr… that brat! One way or another, I will find you!" Artemis muttered under her breath, her patience wearing thin. She sent the wolves away and began walking toward her next destination.
As she passed through several fallen trees, she came across the downed form of Atalanta. Artemis rushed over, shaking her gently to wake her.
"Lady Artemis? Where am I?" Atalanta asked, her voice groggy and confused.
"You've been knocked out by that brat!" Artemis seethed, her tone seething with fury.
"Brat?"
Artemis sighed. She paused, considering whether to tell Atalanta the full extent of what had happened. There were certain details, like the threats of spanking and being turned into a maid, that she couldn't bear to admit. Atalanta would probably do something reckless if she found out how thoroughly Artemis had been humiliated.
"The wielder of that armor is a teenage human boy. He's at least as intelligent as that Beelzebub freak. He developed some magic similar to that of the Solomon brat. And he defeated all of us... and collected our hair as trophies."
Atalanta's eyes widened with shock before her expression hardened in fury. She instinctively reached up to touch her hair, checking for anything amiss. Thankfully, nothing was out of place.
But there was a lingering feeling of violation—something about this situation made Atalanta feel… off, though she couldn't quite place it.
"What are your orders, my lady?" Atalanta asked in a cold, measured tone.
"We can't chase him down," Artemis replied. "He can fly, and the wolves are useless. It's not advisable to face him while he's in his armor. That magic of his renders us powerless. We need to find where he lives. Once we know that, we can prepare an ambush and force him into a duel to regain our honor."
"Why not just kill him?" Atalanta asked, her brow furrowed in confusion. This wasn't the Artemis she knew.
But then, Atalanta noticed the dangerous look in the goddess's eyes.
She wants revenge, Atalanta realized. Something happened to Lady Artemis when that brat took her hair.
"No," Artemis said through gritted teeth. "Killing him isn't good enough. He will suffer for every moment of humiliation I had to endure! There will be no killing—not until I have my way with him!"
"...I understand. We will help you in any way we can, Lady Artemis," Atalanta said, nodding as she began to rise to her feet, brushing herself off.
"Good," Artemis said with a sharp nod. "Now, let's return to the hunt and figure out how to get information on him."
Together, they walked toward the rest of the hunt, Artemis's mind still focused on her plans for vengeance.
