Chapter 11: Chapter 11: Diamond Core Heart (2)

Serafall realized that she might have developed a newfound understanding of magic.

Seeing things come together like this was different—this wasn't just typical magic. It felt more impactful, more permanent.

As a devil, she could create things from her imagination. But it wasn't permanent. What she was seeing now, however, was magic done through her Master's hands—and it was permanent.

She watched in awe as he turned the clay into pure diamond. Then, in less than an hour, he crafted an entire set of tools… carving tools.

He began sculpting the basketball-sized diamond into a familiar shape.

But… something was different. The carvings weren't just normal cuts. Each time he carved, bursts of magic flowed through the diamond.

'Is he 'carving in' something? Like... meaning? Diamonds are universally seen by mortals as one of the toughest gems on Earth,' Serafall thought, narrowing her eyes as she tried to understand what her Master was doing without asking directly.

She continued to watch as he carved, day after day, until the final product was complete.

When she saw the finished diamond, she knew it was magical. The diamond glittered and sparkled with an almost ethereal glow.

Despite her curiosity, Serafall couldn't find a chance to ask about the diamond or its purpose. She could only assume that it was the core for the barriers he planned to cast around his garage.

Once he finished carving, he collected the remaining pieces of diamond. The thought of those shards being discarded as 'rubbish' made Serafall grimace, but thankfully, Marcus didn't consider them waste—he would be reusing them for something else.

She followed him into the summoning room, but as she entered, a brief feeling of dread washed over her. For a moment, she thought he was going to summon another devil from her race.

Her worry faded when she saw him cleaning off the diabolical Ars Goetia summoning circle.

Instead, he drew a much smaller circle and placed one of the diamond remnants in the center.

Then, he activated the circle.

This time, Serafall saw a type of circle she'd never seen before. It was unlike any other—hollow in the middle. The only way she could describe it was that it looked like a doughnut.

But then it started shrinking toward the center, where the diamond remnant was placed.

The process repeated several times, until the diamond shattered and turned into dust.

Unable to stay silent any longer, Serafall spoke up.

"Why did it turn into dust? I thought you were enchanting it?" the blue-eyed devil asked, confused.

"I was doing some test runs. Checking what kind of pressure the diamond could handle. More specifically, how much pressure each sequence was applying to the diamond core. I still need to run more tests before I can use them for the real thing," Marcus explained, placing another diamond remnant on a freshly drawn circle.

"I knew it! This is a core of some kind. I've heard about them! I think my family has one!" Serafall exclaimed, a knowing look in her eyes.

"You think? You don't know for sure?" Marcus asked, stopping what he was doing to look at her in surprise.

"How would I know? You think I'm going around checking everything out of curiosity?" she replied, equally confused.

"You don't? No interest in how it's made or how to improve it?" Marcus asked, bewildered.

"Uh… no? I was born with an above-average talent for my family's magic, and after the civil war, I trained a lot. All that hard work paid off when I became an office slave," Serafall said, bitterness creeping into her voice.

She could only express her true feelings to her Master—her Ars Goetia seal prevented her from hiding the truth, especially about how frustrated she was with her status.

Marcus paused for a moment, then nodded in understanding.

"I see. Guess it's just my thing to be curious about how everything is made and how it all comes together."

"That's the trait of an inventor and someone who builds things. Honestly, I don't understand more than half of what you do. But I know it's amazing," Serafall said with a sincere and honest smile. By now, she didn't need to pretend anymore—what Marcus did was truly extraordinary.

"Makes sense. Anyway, do you want to know what this core was based on? I bet you'll be shocked when you hear it."

"Oh? Do tell," she said, leaning forward, intrigued.

"This method is based on the same one that Heaven's system uses."

"..."

"...Seriously?"

"Very much so. While the scale, the material, and the purpose are different, the method of programming magic is essentially the same," Marcus said, his tone filled with excitement and seriousness. He clearly adored this discovery.

"Master… does this mean you could… theoretically… create your own system like Heaven's?" Serafall asked, her voice tinged with awe.

Her mind raced as she realized the potential implications. He could control the flow of souls, create Sacred Gears, or even craft his own angels!

"Theoretically, yes. I could do anything if I put my mind to it. Will I do it? Probably not. Creating a Pantheon sounds like an insane amount of work. I only need to look at your situation, Sera, to know it's just not worth it. The gains don't outweigh the losses. I'd rather make physical things than create religious pantheons," Marcus replied.

"I see…" Serafall said quietly, her mind still whirling. What could such a system do for her race? Perhaps it could enhance Pillar magics? The possibilities were endless. Now she just needed to find a way to convince him to pursue it.

"So Solomon knew about Heaven's system? I didn't think they were that close," Serafall mused.

Snort

"Of course not. He only knew how to make Sacred Gears—more like he remembered what Big G said about them and used that to create his rings," Marcus explained, going back to his work with the circles.

"Then… how did you learn about Heaven's system?" Serafall asked, her eyes wide with disbelief. This didn't make sense to her.

"In simple terms, it's like they were talking about the engine of a car. At this point, I already know what the engine looks like. Now I just need to design and build the car. And the best part? I can design it however I want," Marcus said, a proud smile spreading across his face.

"Isn't that just great?" he asked, clearly excited by the potential.

"Yes… great indeed…" Serafall said, swallowing nervously.

After the conversation about Heaven's system, Serafall continued to watch Marcus' progress. Through this process, she had gained some understanding of the magical energy systems. With Marcus' explanations, she began to grasp the intricacies of magic in a way she never had before.

As someone who primarily used water and ice magic in combat—and only occasionally relied on devil magic for mundane tasks—Serafall had never delved deeply into the study of magical energies. But Marcus? He was already a monster in this field, mastering the synergy of magic like no one else.

She remembered how Solomon, the King of Magic, was famous for his ability to control and negate magic. His skill in using all forms of energy, not just magic, was unparalleled.
