Chapter 7. Honest, Reliable, Mature, and Steady
To save face, Lin Ya quickly led Yun Jin to the back mountain.
As expected, the back mountain was equally deserted.
Lin Ya took a deep breath, forcing a smile. “Don’t misunderstand. They are diligent, but they might be cultivating in their own quarters. Come, let’s check your Eldest Senior Brother’s place.”
Yun Jin simply nodded obediently.
The Eldest Senior Brother Yue Zhao’s bamboo house was built by the river. From afar, it was shrouded in mountain mist and lush greenery, giving off the ambiance of an immortal’s dwelling.
“Your Eldest Senior Brother is the most steady,” Lin Ya introduced to Yun Jin. “You should seek his guidance often. You can’t go wrong with that.”
Regardless of his true personality, this eldest disciple at least put on the best act of propriety. This advice should be fine.
“Understood,” Yun Jin nodded dutifully.
As Lin Ya spoke, he led Yun Jin towards the bamboo house.
The closer they got, the more his expression changed.
“It’s your turn, Second Junior Sister. Hurry up!”
“Stop rushing me! I finally have a good hand. Let me think it through!”
“It’s just a flush!”
“Yue Zhao, you peeked at my cards.”
“Heh, I could guess it without looking. Hurry up and play a card!”
Yun Jin glanced at Lin Ya.
Hmm.
That voice.
Was that the legendary honest, reliable, mature, and steady Eldest Senior Brother?
Lin Ya’s face had turned darker than a pot’s bottom. He stepped forward and kicked open the bamboo door.
Yu Songnian was frowning at the dominos before him when he looked up and met Lin Ya’s extremely unpleasant expression.
He was startled, his lips trembling. “Mas… Mas…”
“What Master! Third Junior Brother, you’re not trying to welch, are you? Don’t tell me you’re trying to scare us with Master? Master went to see the new disciples today. He has no time for us, okay! Quick, play your card!” Yue Zhao urged frantically.
Si Wanning looked up and also saw Lin Ya, her expression instantly changing. “Master!”
“Second Junior Sister, you too! I’m telling you both, you’re not leaving until you lose everything today!” Yue Zhao shouted hoarsely.
Yun Jin glanced at Lin Ya again.
Hmm.
Honest and reliable.
Mature and steady.
“Yue Zhao!!” A thunderous roar shook the earth.
Lin Ya was furious. He drew his sword and slashed at Yue Zhao.
Yue Zhao’s face changed. He quickly dodged and wailed, “Master, why did you suddenly come! Let me explain…”
“Save your explanations for the King of Hell when you get there!” Lin Ya roared.
Beside them, Si Wanning said insincerely, “Master, please stop. If you keep hitting him, Eldest Senior Brother will die, and we won’t have an Eldest Senior Brother anymore.”
Her words only made it worse. Lin Ya coldly glanced at her. “Si Wanning! I see you were enjoying yourself too, weren’t you?”
Lin Ya began attacking indiscriminately.
Yu Songnian, temporarily unaffected, tried to minimize his presence, inching towards Yun Jin.
Yu Songnian stopped, looking at Yun Jin with confusion.
Huh.
Who’s this?
Never seen her before!
How could they see a stranger at Celestial Sword Peak?
This was a rare occurrence.
Should he ask if she was a lost little lamb?
Forget it, too troublesome and a bit awkward.
He’d better pretend he didn’t see her.
Yu Songnian simply lowered his head.
Yun Jin’s lips twitched slightly.
She knew that in her previous life, Lin Ya’s disciples didn’t end up well, but she hadn’t interacted much with them.
Seeing them today.
It might have been better not to.
After chasing and hitting Yue Zhao and Si Wanning for a while, Lin Ya suddenly seemed to remember he now had a new little disciple.
Lin Ya came to an abrupt halt, quickly sheathed his sword, and straightened his appearance.
He was somewhat embarrassed. “Little Jin, they’re not usually like this. It’s all a misunderstanding, okay?”
“I understand!” Yun Jin nodded seriously.
Lin Ya sighed in relief but couldn’t help kicking Yue Zhao again. “This is how you lead your Junior Brother and Sister when I ask you to?”
“I was wrong, Master. Please stop hitting me.” Yue Zhao wore a pained expression.
“Master, who is this?” Si Wanning had already asked curiously.
“This is the new disciple I accepted today. She’s your Little Junior Sister, named Yun Jin. She’s new to the sect and has much to learn. In the future, you should guide her more,” Lin Ya instructed.
“Little Junior Sister?” Yue Zhao’s eyes widened. “Master, how could you mislead someone like this!”
Was Celestial Sword Peak a place for normal people?
Lin Ya’s face darkened, and he kicked Yue Zhao again. “Who allowed you to speak such blunt truths?”
Yue Zhao felt wronged but didn’t dare speak.
“Hmph.” Lin Ya snorted coldly and said, “Your Little Junior Sister is a super genius who cultivated Qi in half an incense stick’s time. You’re all far inferior to her.”
Cultivating Qi in half an incense stick’s time?
Yun Jin immediately gained some shock value.
Si Wanning looked at Yun Jin as if she were a monster. She couldn’t help but say, “Junior Sister, being such a genius, how were you tricked by this old man? Don’t listen to his nonsense. Our Celestial Sword Peak is poor and has no future. You can still escape now. I suggest you run quickly.”
Lin Ya was so angry his mustache bristled. “Si Wanning!”
He had worked so hard to build up their image in front of Yun Jin.
And what did they do?
Destroyed that image the moment they met!
Yun Jin found these Senior Brothers and sisters quite interesting. She smiled slightly. “Senior Sister, I just got lucky in cultivating Qi. But I only have a Five Element Root aptitude. If I left here, no one else would want me.”
“Five Element Root?”
Si Wanning exclaimed, her gaze towards Yun Jin turning somewhat pitiful.
High comprehension paired with such low innate talent, the Little Junior Sister’s future path wouldn’t be easy.
“You three now have a Junior Sister! Show me how proper Senior Brothers and Sisters should behave! It’s getting late today. Give Little Jin a tour of Celestial Sword Peak and rest for a few days. When the new disciples are all selected, remember to take Little Jin to receive her storage bag,” Lin Ya instructed.
Yue Zhao suddenly became serious. He looked at Yun Jin, a gentle smile spreading across his face. “Don’t worry, Junior Sister. With your Senior Brother taking care of you, I guarantee you’ll live comfortably.”
Now that was somewhat like a proper Senior Brother.
Lin Ya nodded with satisfaction. “All of you, get acquainted. I have some matters to attend to, so I’ll take my leave for now.”
Everyone responded in unison.
As soon as Lin Ya left.
Yue Zhao rushed over with lightning speed. “Little Junior Sister, do you know how to play dominoes?”
Yue Zhao’s expression was somewhat excited.
Heavens above! They were always one person short before!
Now they finally had enough people!
Yun Jin curved her lips, revealing a mysterious smile. “I know a little.”
Yue Zhao became even more excited. “Let’s play a few rounds. Junior Sister, since you’re new, if you lose today it doesn’t count, but if you win, you keep the winnings.”
“Thank you, Eldest Senior Brother.” Yun Jin showed an innocent smile.
