Chapter 111
“Roseni…!”
Startled by Roseni’s sudden appearance, I quickly ran towards the child. I first closed the door, then picked up Roseni.
What if Roseni heard everything?
Feeling guilty about the child, I frowned in discomfort.
Roseni looked up at me slightly. A warm hand gently stroked the child’s back. Being held tightly, her stirred emotions gradually calmed down.
“…Why is father so useless? Why doesn’t he know anything?”
“Roseni.”
Shocked by the child’s unexpected criticism, Endimion’s gaze fluttered like reeds in the wind. He spoke lowly, his eyebrows pitifully drooped as if he was wounded.
“…Roseni, go back to your room. This is an adult problem.”
“I know everything.”
“…What? Exactly what do you know…”
“You shouldn’t have let me find out. No, you shouldn’t have done those things in the first place.” The child continued, sobbing but speaking clearly. “Why do you make my heart hurt? Father, why are you such a fool…!”
The strongest insult a child could make slipped from Roseni’s lips.
I looked at Roseni with pity. It felt as if I could see right into this child’s heart. Like a shattered glass bottle, her heart was broken into countless pieces. My throat tightened, and I swallowed hard.
“…Roseni. Let’s go back to your room for now.”
First, I needed to calm Roseni down. Just as I was about to take the child back to the room, I was stopped.
“Lobelia.”
Roseni, with tear-filled eyes, looked at me and said, “I don’t mind if Lobelia is a commoner.”
“…Roseni.”
“I am ashamed of my mother. No, I hate her. I hate Father too…!”
Even with Endimion clearly listening, the child blatantly poured out criticism.
“Roseni!”
Endimion, who had been silently listening, stepped forward. Had he spoiled the child too much? Unaware of his own faults, Endimion approached Roseni.
“How can you speak to your father like that,
huh
?” As if he was the only one wounded, he raised his voice. “Don’t talk like that! Come here!”
“No!”
Endimion reached out to snatch the child away.
“Endimion!”
But I spun around. My emerald eyes briefly flashed with an animalistic ferocity.
“Don’t touch the child.”
Feeling an inexplicable pressure, Endimion’s hand froze in mid-air.
“I’ll put Roseni to bed. As for the ball, yes. I’ll do as you said. Because I’m just a shameful concubine who will stay home.”
“…Lobelia!”
“
Hmph
.”
With a loud snort, I left the room. Walking slowly from his room to Roseni’s, I gently patted the child’s back.
I could feel Roseni’s slight trembling. She could also deeply sense this child’s fears.
Why do children have to bear the scars of adults’ mistakes? Especially when those adults don’t even realize their wrongdoings. My eyelashes fluttered lightly.
Finally, we arrived at Roseni’s room together. I laid Roseni down on the bed. Tear stains still marked the child’s pale face. Swallowing a sigh, I wiped away Roseni’s tears.
“I’m going to live with Lobelia… I don’t need a mother or father.”
“Roseni. I’ve told you before.” I smiled softly, pulling the blanket up to the child’s neck. “If Roseni wants, I will never abandon you. Roseni is Merilly’s sibling. That fact will never change. I’ve told you before, remember?”
“…Yes.”
“It’s not your guilt to bear. Please…”
The child’s eyes slowly closed, drifting into sleep. Watching Roseni fall asleep, a tear rolled down my cheek.
“I just wish Roseni’s heart wouldn’t get hurt anymore…”
It was my sincere wish. To fulfill that, I needed to end this soon.
Not much longer now. Just wait a little longer, Roseni. And…
As I stood up, my gaze turned towards the second floor. I went upstairs. Fortunately, Merilly was sound asleep, unaware of anything.
Merilly.
I gently kissed the child’s forehead.
Thus, the night filled with wounds slowly passed.

“… I’ll be back.”
Endimion awkwardly spoke to me. Magorit stood by his side.
“Yes. Take care, both of you.” I spoke demurely, not even looking into Endimion’s eyes.
“Please take care of the children.” Magorit, excited about the outing for the first time in a while, spoke in an uplifted voice.
“I suppose I’ll do a better job than you.”
“
Oh
, Lobelia.”
Despite my ice-cold words, she smiled kindly, her lips curving up. Then she continued, holding my hand.
“Don’t get ahead of yourself. I’ve changed.”
“Changed?”
“Yes. I admit all my mistakes. I’ve been sorry all this time.”
Magorit smiled brightly as if she had shaken off all her burdens. Looking at her, I leisurely raised an eyebrow.
“Are you really sorry?”
“…Yes?”
“For trying to kill me twice, for mistreating my child.”
I whispered quietly into Magorit’s ear. “Don’t smile.”
Then I murmured in a voice too low for Endimion to hear. “If you’re really sorry, go die.”
“…Lobelia.”
Only then did I smile faintly.
“Then, have a good trip. This concubine will stay home and look after the children.”
“…Honey”
He approached me and lightly kissed my forehead in front of Magorit.
“I’m sorry. I was wrong.”
Magorit’s facial muscles twitched visibly at that moment.
Changed my foot.
It was clear she was switching tactics, harboring some scheme. But it was too late. The coronation was today, and the debutante ball was tomorrow. Everything was about to end.
I met Endimion’s gaze with a soft smile. “… Don’t worry.”
“I’ll find a way, so don’t worry. You know that, right?”
“I’ll trust you for now.”
“…Let’s go, Endimion.”
“Okay.”
Though her expression was a bit uneasy, Magorit skillfully hid her emotions and climbed into the carriage with him. Finally, the carriage carrying the two of them disappeared into the distance.
“Showing such affection, today will be the last time.”
I murmured quietly as I entered the mansion. I had already sent a letter to Frinel saying I couldn’t attend the coronation so he would understand.
After all, I’ll see him tomorrow.
Then, I spent a joyful time with Merilly and Roseni. We went for a walk and made the cake we had planned to make before.
After a hearty meal, the happily played children fell asleep in one bed. I looked at the two angelically snoring children and smiled contentedly.
They’re such a lovely child.
The tear stains on Roseni’s face from yesterday still troubled me, making it hard to leave them. It felt like a sharp thorn was stuck in my throat. I tidied the children’s hair, then left the peaceful room.
Tomorrow was finally here. Holding my heart full of excitement, I turned to return to my room.
Just then, a massive thunderclap sounded as if the sky itself had cracked open. Fierce winds pounded on the windows along the corridor. A foreboding premonition creased my brow.
Is it going to rain?
I tilted my head slightly and moved on. That’s when it happened.
“Lobelia, where are you!”
A familiar voice struck my ears. I hurried towards the entrance with a cold face. And there,
“Lobelia!”
Kriella, completely disheveled and enraged, glared at me with reddened eyes.
