Chapter 10 - The Spare Tire of the CEO’s Woman (10)
This classic line from the female lead came up again. Hai Ku wanted to laugh out loud after hearing it but instead coldly asked her why she thought that way.
Just because he had liked her and loved her in the past, did that mean he should unconditionally dedicate himself to her? Where did this ridiculous logic come from?
Should all the male side characters in the world revolve around her? Just because he had liked her before, did that mean he had to help her?
It’s simply absurd.
Hai Ku had to suppress the urge to laugh out loud and was busy digging a hole for the female lead. “That was all in the past. Since you didn’t marry me, I don’t have any obligation to help someone I once loved. Or are you telling me you trust me more than you trust your husband?”
“Yes…” Jiang Wanyan couldn’t analyze anything anymore. She was crying so hard that she was gasping for breath. “The child is my only hope…”
Hai Ku was speechless. When he had read the novel, he had always felt that the female lead, aside from having the halo of a heroine, was no different from those mistresses who wanted to climb the social ladder through a child.
She had just been lucky, with Lin Zixiang’s help, to successfully deceive Ouyang Ming and give birth to a genius baby.
Though this kind of plot was clichéd, other female leads at least had some ability; either returning after success abroad or raising the child alone.
But Jiang Wanyan’s character was different. She actually made the male supporting character, Lin Zixiang, raise her child.
He had written a 2,000-word review to criticize this plot. He had logically analyzed Lin Zixiang as a pitiful character.
At first, many readers agreed with him, though there were some who defended her.
Then, he was banned.
“Other than the child, can you give up everything else?” He felt like he had already dug the hole deep enough, and the male lead should be about to arrive. Hai Ku secretly took out his phone and asked one last question.
Jiang Wanyan was still crying, her eyes so swollen that they looked unrecognizable. She felt like something was off about Brother Zixiang today, but this was almost her only hope of staying.
Choking on her sobs, Jiang Wanyan nodded. “Yes…”
The call was abruptly ended on the other side. Hai Ku could almost imagine how furious Ouyang Ming must have been.
Hai Ku felt like a villain, but he was in an unexpectedly good mood. He even wanted to go outside and set off some firecrackers to celebrate.
Playing with his phone, Hai Ku sighed and adopted the tone of an elder. “Wanyan, you should know that I have no obligation to help you or let you stay here. You’re already an adult, and soon you’ll be a mother. If the child is born, are you going to expect me to raise him too?”
To his surprise, Lin Zixiang was raising such questions in such detail. Jiang Wanyan was a little panicked. In the past, Lin Zixiang never asked anything or said anything. Whenever she cried, he would just comfort her.
What had gone wrong? I hadn’t heard that he had a girlfriend.
Jiang Wanyan’s mind became clearer from his words. “But, but Brother Zixiang, you told me before that if I had any difficulties, I could come to you. Are you going to go back on your word? I’ve kept that in my heart all along, which is why I came to you when I was at my lowest.”
Hai Ku had already heard enough of these lines. If this was the script, he would have suspected the author was just padding the word count.

Seeing that Lin Ziying had finished her shower and come out, Hai Ku stood up. “Wanyan, stop fixating on those words. You know, in the adult world, some things are just pleasantries.”
“But…” Jiang Wanyan’s eyes widened. “If you’re willing to listen to me, doesn’t that mean you already want to help me?”
“You’re overthinking.” Since the call had already ended, Hai Ku didn’t need to pretend anymore, and his tone had become much colder.
“Brother Zixiang, how can you be like this?” Jiang Wanyan’s eyes were filled with anger. “Brother Zixiang, you’ve changed! You’re no longer the Brother Zixiang I knew. I hate you!”
Even though she yelled at him, Hai Ku only found it amusing and even felt like responding, ‘Oh, then go ahead and hate me.’
Estimating the time, Hai Ku went to the kitchen to pour some water. The moment the cup was filled; the unfamiliar phone call came through.
He smirked and raised his voice slightly, “Ziying, go downstairs and pick someone up.”
Before long, the 20 million Hai Ku had been waiting for was brought upstairs by Lin Ziying.
When Jiang Wanyan saw who Lin Ziying had brought in, she was left speechless, and her body started trembling with fear.
Ouyang Ming truly fit the standard of a domineering CEO in the novels; his height was 1.86 meters, with a sharp jawline, ice-cold eyes, and a presence that seemed to make the air around him freeze. He walked as if the wind itself followed him, carrying the scent of cologne.
When Lin Zixiang received the check for 20 million, he could even smell the cologne in the air.
With a sly grin, Hai Ku put the check into his pocket and pulled Lin Ziying along. “You two can handle your own family matters. My sister and I will head back to our room now~”
