B2 | Chapter 24 - Bad News
Cassandra
Year 820 | Month 5 | Day 8
“The way Wrath induced creatures work is that they sense for any Wrath directed at anything nearby,” Leo answers as I sit down in a corner of the cavern. “Or any ill intent directed at you.” He shrugs. “All I had to do was bury any wrathful thoughts I had, and I was fine. Seeing as I obviously have no interest in harming you.” Then he frowns at me and says, “You should be more careful about spreading your Wrath energy around like this. It could mutate people into monsters simply for entering this place.”
I narrow my eyes at him for a moment before sighing.
He’s right about that first bit. If he had any intentions of harming me, he’d have done it while I was unconscious.
And he’s helped me before. So he’s probably telling the truth.
The second part though has me wondering. It would make some sense since monsters are made up of Sin energy, but would a person really be corrupted and turned into a monster simply by entering this place? And why isn’t he corrupted if that’s the case?
Of course, that could just be because he’s powerful enough that he resists it or something.
One way or another though, it’s good to know about.
Might even test it on some wild animals to see.
I should refrain from forcing Wrath transformations outside of this forest though. Just to be safe.
Wait a second.
“You said there were other angels sent to Midgard?” I can’t help but ask, shooting up to my feet at that.
He raises a brow and asks, “Finally reacting?” Then he lowers the brow and continues, “Yeah, at least four angels were sent. One of them is even still fighting with sacred beasts over the ocean.”
Shit.
I quickly gather up all of my things and begin moving towards the entrance of the cavern, where I find Thrix 2 just wandering around. But after quickly whistling, the fella comes to me and I pick the fella up while shouting back at Leo, “I’m heading to go see Father! See you when I see you!”
And without hesitation, I go ahead and begin running straight through the trees with a rather panicked hockathrix trailing along behind me. Just smashing through the trees in the process until I reach the edge of the inner ring of the Dark Forest.
Then I go ahead and jump straight over the vein to the outer ring of the forest where I continue making my way through the trees before eventually leaving the Dark Forest entirely.
Only to awkwardly realize that I have no idea where Dad is right now.
So I wait for the man chasing after me to catch up.
“Finally realized?” he asks after eventually catching up through the same little path I made across the Dark Forest. But he quickly shakes his head and says, “Better now than never I guess.”
“So, where’s Dad?” I ask, briefly glancing at a certain hockathrix who is pretty much lying in a pool of its own sweat on the ground while heaving in exhaustion.
“Your father,” Leo says, also looking at the hockathrix with an amused expression on his face, “is currently at the fortress located near the border of the Duchy of Night. Dealing with a new situation that came about after they started pushing the border back.”
“A new situation?” I ask with a frown. “Aside from the angels?”
He nods his head as Thrix 2 finally manages to calm himself down and stands up, albeit rather wobbly, “Yes. One of your pals actually.”
“My… pals?” I ask, not really sure what he’s getting at with that.
Then I remember something Pride told me.
That he was in the Dark Sea where he met Gluttony.
“Wait, do you mean…” I begin, only for Leo to nod his head before I can finish.
“Yep,” he says. “Gluttony is at the shore, and he, or I guess I should just call him an it now since it’s lost all of its intelligence and any semblance of humanity it once had, is going on a rampage. The king and your brothers are currently there trying to stop it, with Pride there advising them.”
Gluttony… if I remember correctly, from what both Pride and the Ancestor told me at least, Gluttony’s skill is called The Void of Gluttony. Like how mine is The Calling of Wrath. And The Void of Gluttony lets the user use their Gluttony energy to devour an attack coming at them before converting it to Gluttony energy for Gluttony to use.
It also lasts a lot longer than my skill does. Since it’s basically a defensive skill only. Doesn’t let them attack through the skill.
Or, rather, the main use of it doesn’t. I know it also has the two other default uses of the skill. The uses that are shared between all seven Sin skills.
The infusing their Sin’s energy into a skill or into those around them.
And I can guess that infusing all of that Gluttony energy into a skill would empower it quite a bit. But then Gluttony also wouldn’t be able to absorb an attack if it chose to do that.
Then again, it could also stockpile Gluttony energy with it before using it all at once.
Overall, sounds like a pain to deal with.
“How are they faring against it?” I ask, but Leo just shakes his head.
Thought so.
Unlike Pride who was running for his life, only occasionally fighting when he had to or his pride was hurt, Gluttony has no intelligence left. It’s basically a monster. One that hunts everything it sees.
So it’s bound to be strong.
“I’m going to go help them,” I tell Leo before grabbing Thrix 2, making him let out a honk, and resuming my sprint. This time heading straight towards the fortress near the border.
I just hope I get there in time. Or that they don’t need me in the end.
