The Butcher of Sargon (Renekton, The Butcher of The Sand in Arknight)

Chapter 34: Farewell

“Ulysses, are the things I asked you to prepare ready?”

“They’re ready— but, really, do we not need to inform Director Saria?”

“Hehe, Ulysses, you should know the current predicament of the company. We must present some convincing research results to the investors to reverse the company’s decline. We can’t always rely on Director Saria and Miss Kristen.”

In the camp of Rhine Lab, a gaze fell upon the cultivation dishes placed in the container, containing small pieces of flesh floating inside.

“Any experiment carries risks. Our research personnel’s task is to minimize the dangers in the experiment as much as possible. But encountering dangers doesn’t mean we should stop.”

The old hand picked up a cultivation dish.

“Look, such a tenacious life. Even if the body is shattered, leaving only the most basic muscle tissue, it still seems to breathe, absorbing nutrients from the cultivation dish.”

“And I’m sure it hasn’t been contaminated by Originium.”

“Ulysses, don’t forget why we’re here. Even if we find what we want from the Hotland, we may not be able to deduce its composition and manufacturing process.”

The old hand patted the middle-aged scholar’s shoulder.

“Ulysses, I think you should understand that research cannot always focus on one direction; there must be someone to raise objections.”

“So, why can’t that person be me? Rather than relying on elusive luck, we should seize what we have now.”

The scene of Garde effortlessly defeating the sea creatures appeared in Ulysses’ mind, and he nodded firmly.

“I understand, Par—”

“Mr. Parvis, have you gathered everything you wanted?”

Saria’s voice came from behind, causing Ulysses’ heart to tighten, but the old man beside him calmly placed the glass cultivation dish back into the container, still wearing a kind smile on his face.

“Director Saria, everything is ready, and we can leave at any time.”

“Good, we’ve already contacted Lord Ameer of Ibut before coming here. Director Muelsyse will meet us there and prepare the supplies we need for the next operation.”

Saria didn’t notice anything unusual about the old man’s actions. The container collected many biological samples from the Acahualla region, including some biological tissues.

She had already checked; no research personnel had left behind any biological samples of the sea creatures.

She knew little about these creatures, but Garde had warned her about their terrifying nature from his battles with them.

“Hehe, Director Muelsyse must be impatient by now. We’ve wasted too much time here.”

“But it’s all worth it!”

Garde had agreed to their request and was willing to lead the way. Who would trust notes when Garde himself led the team?

Moreover, with Garde’s immense strength, the safety of the inspection team would be more assured.

“Saria, is your convoy ready to go?”

In the distance, the tall figure of Garde approached. He didn’t bring much with him, just his large axe, a backpack containing a few books, a notebook, and several pens.

Rhine Lab’s people would prepare water and food. Even if he had nothing, with Garde’s physique, he could go for dozens of days without food or water and still survive.

But no one liked the feeling of hunger.

“It’s ready.”

Saria turned around and saw Gavial beside Garde.

“Miss Gavial, are you going too?”

“I’m just a little worried about this guy.”

Gavial hammered Garde’s armor-like skin with her fist and pouted.

“Saria, you have to watch over him for me. If anything happens to him, I won’t let you off!”

“Of course, we will ensure Mr. Garde’s safety…”

Saria couldn’t even finish her sentence, feeling awkward due to being the weaker party between the two, so she had to change her words.

“We will take good care of Mr. Garde, and whatever reward Mr. Garde wants afterward, we will try our best to satisfy him.”

Upon hearing their conversation, Garde became displeased.

“Hey hey, don’t talk as if I’m like a child. In Sargon, who takes care of whom is not certain!”

A few years’ time wasn’t enough to bring about significant changes in such a large country as Sargon. Garde had met quite a few people during his time away from home four years ago.

“Our first stop is the Ibut region? I happen to know a leader of the underground black market there. I saved his life before, so if I ask him for a favor, it shouldn’t be a problem.”

“If necessary, I hope Garde, you can introduce him to us.”

A Lord Ameer is a Lord Ameer, and a leader of the underground black market is a leader in the underground world.

Establishing a good relationship with an underground leader would be very advantageous for Rhine Lab.

But Garde refused her.

“Let’s forget about this. Although that guy is of Colombian descent, he dislikes Colombians. To be honest, we Sargons are pretty much the same.”

“If it weren’t for me saving him, don’t expect him to give me any favors.”

Garde shrugged. Before he left, that guy was still obsessed with seeking revenge against the Ibut region’s Lord Ameer. Who knows if he succeeded.

“Such a pity.”

Hearing Garde’s words, Saria had to abandon this plan.

“Everyone, pack up your things, and get ready to leave!”

After spending almost a month in the rainforest, both the ordinary researchers and the security personnel of Rhine Lab were impatient to leave.

Although later they found out that the Adakrys people in the rainforest were quite easy to get along with, as civilized people from a civilized country, no one really considered fighting as entertainment.

Rhine Lab’s off-road vehicle looked like a big truck. Although Garde couldn’t sit in the driver’s seat, he could hide in the back compartment and read books. There was even air conditioning inside.

Experiencing air conditioning for the first time, Temimi’s mouth opened wide in amazement, almost not wanting to leave.

But in the end, she was thrown out by Garde.

“We’re not going out to play!”

After saying goodbye to Gavial, telling her to take care of herself, Garde sat in the back of the off-road vehicle, took out his journal.

“June, 1091 of the Terra calendar. I left Acahualla and headed to the Foehn Hotland again.”

“When I come back next time, I will become stronger.”

“Strong enough to fear no parting!”

With these words penned at the end, the crocodile man drew a small crocodile head.

Beside the crocodile head, was an image of chibi Laurentina showed her shark teeth smile, and Gavials Chibi avatar, who are also next to him, looked displeased, as if she wanted to punch the shark girl.

Then, he closed the journal.

The convoy set off.
