The Butcher of Sargon (LoL x Arknight Fanfiction)

Chapter 92: Volume 1 Chapter 92: Regrouping

The battle began quickly and ended just as swiftly.

The group that Garde and his companions had infiltrated disguised as miners was initially a mining team. It was only after they were discovered that the mission changed. So, when Garde decided to abandon the plan and charge ahead, the three of them managed to defeat all the mining robots in less than five minutes.

It was only after those five minutes that Garde's adrenaline started to cool down. Of course, what contributed the most to this was Mon3tr's psychic impact.

Garde had been wondering for a while where Kal'tsit had been hiding Mon3tr. Now that he knew the truth, tears welled up in his eyes.

This incident was bound to leave a scar on his psyche for a long time.

"Mon3tr!"

Kal'tsit's voice called from a distance, and Garde looked up to see Mon3tr running toward him—or more accurately, floating toward him.

Mon3tr's movement resembled more of hovering or flying. In the blink of an eye, Mon3tr covered the distance between them, reaching Garde in mere seconds.

The massive body, over five meters in size, loomed over Garde, almost as if it was intentionally shielding him from the sun. Mon3tr let out a strange, indecipherable sound.

But—

Garde understood!

"Are you greeting me?" Garde hesitantly asked after hearing Mon3tr's sound.

"Gah!"

Mon3tr stretched its body joyfully, making itself appear even larger.

Although Garde had nearly been traumatized by Mon3tr, he didn't actually dislike the creature. In fact, was there really any man who could resist a creature that looked like a giant mechanical dragon?

"My name is Garde, and you are?"

"Hiss!"

"Mon3tr? Got it, nice to meet you!"

"Hiss-hiss!"

Seeing Mon3tr rush toward Garde, Saria, who had been worried that something might have gone wrong, watched in silence as Garde instantly bonded with Mon3tr. Their relationship warmed quickly. Saria turned to look at Kal'tsit.

"Kal'tsit, is this strange creature your summon?" Saria asked.

"Yes," Kal'tsit replied plainly.

"It seems to like Garde quite a bit."

"Perhaps that's because Garde can understand its language."

"Really?"

"Yes, really," Kal'tsit answered, still expressionless.

"Miss Saria, you're Garde's partner, so I wanted to ask you," Kal'tsit continued, her gaze lingering on Garde, who was now practically holding hands with Mon3tr. She took a deep breath before speaking. "Has he always been this talented with languages?"

"Maybe," Saria responded after a moment of silence.

She couldn't exactly tell Kal'tsit that she and Garde had only known each other for less than two months.

Thinking back to Garde's behavior earlier, he had clearly shown interest in Kal'tsit—and right in front of her, too!

Despite Saria's indifference to Garde liking someone else, she still couldn't deny that seeing him develop feelings for another woman affected her.

After all, even though she didn't mind being the "third party" in someone else's relationship—maybe even the fourth—seeing him grow closer to someone else definitely stirred a bit of jealousy.

Still, considering Garde had managed to stop himself in time, Saria didn't dwell on the matter too much.

Now there was a new issue to address.

"The plan failed. What do we do next?" Saria asked, turning her attention to Kal'tsit. "Garde said that you're smarter and wiser than both of us, so I want to know, was all of this part of your plan?"

There's no way I could have predicted something like this! How was I supposed to foresee a crocodile man getting aroused by me?

Though this was Kal'tsit's inner thought, she kept it to herself and didn't share it with Saria.

"Unexpected events happen. No one can predict the future with complete certainty," Kal'tsit said coldly. "There are other ways to infiltrate the factory. At least we managed to avoid a long detour."

The ancient civilization's mining vehicle had already transported them over a hundred kilometers. If they had continued the journey, they would have been stuck in the cramped vehicle for two to three more hours. Kal'tsit shuddered at the thought of what might have happened during that time.

She even suspected that the drugs injected into them by the ancient civilization might have had some kind of aphrodisiac effect, or perhaps the Adakrys physiology had caused an unusual chemical reaction with the substances.

Thankfully, Garde had made the right decision at the crucial moment, showing his character. Not everyone could resist temptation and choose the right path.

"Mon3tr, return!" Kal'tsit called. The harsh environment of the hotlands was taking a toll on her body. She could never truly adapt to the heat like Saria, who showed no sign of discomfort despite the sweltering temperatures.

"Hiss!"

Mon3tr let out a reluctant sound as it looked back at Garde. It was rare to find someone who could understand and communicate with it besides its bonded partner, Kal'tsit.

"Go on now. Your master can't survive long out here without you," Garde said, patting Mon3tr's head. Mon3tr felt like a well-behaved pet to him. If only he could have a companion like this someday.

"I'm sorry. The plan failed because of me," Garde said as he walked over to Kal'tsit and Saria. Seeing Mon3tr reattach itself to Kal'tsit in fragmented pieces, Garde couldn't help but wonder if what he had touched earlier had really been Mon3tr's body. Was Mon3tr's body really that soft?

"It's fine. We're close to the factory now. Since stealth isn't an option, we'll launch a direct assault. Garde, can you draw the guards' attention while Saria and I infiltrate the factory and destroy the terminal?" Kal'tsit said, her gaze briefly flickering before returning to her calm expression.

"Hiss!" Mon3tr's voice suddenly rang out from Kal'tsit's body.

"Mon3tr, quiet down!" Kal'tsit snapped, her voice tense.

She took a deep breath before addressing Garde again.

"Attacking directly comes with risks. The factory might be equipped with special defenses, including city-grade artillery. Garde, even with your extraordinary abilities, be cautious and don't get bogged down by the enemy."

"Got it," Garde grinned, showing off his sharp teeth. "Thanks for the concern."

Kal'tsit turned her head away.

"Let's move out."
