Chapter 71: Volume 1 Chapter 71: She's Not Legal

Surtr? The ice-cream loving Grandma!?

How did she end up in a place like this?

No, wait. Now that I think about it, it's not that surprising.

As someone who's seen mountains, walked through snow, scaled skyscrapers, roamed the wilderness, and even encountered the sea and sea monsters, coming to the Foehn Hotlands before losing her memory wouldn't be out of the ordinary, would it?

But what if Surtr has also lost her memory now?

Garde immediately raised his hand to greet her. "Hi, old grann—"

Before he could finish his sentence, Raya dragged him away.

"Brother Muccaka, Sister Gagania, look who I found!"

Hearing Raya's voice, Surtr, who was standing in the corner of the caravan, glanced in their direction.

She didn't turn back until Raya and Garde reached two other caravan guards.

"Garde, you're still alive!"

The caravan guard named Muccaka happily extended his hand and hugged Garde.

"After you left, the Sacred Mountain started shaking. We thought you got buried by the sandstorm and became one with Mother Earth."

Muccaka looked a lot like Raya, with only subtle differences in skin tone and height, the latter being slightly taller.

Apart from that, they were almost indistinguishable.

He was Raya's brother, two years older than her, having just turned ten this year.

Kids in the Hotlands grow up fast.

Despite being only ten years old, Muccaka was already as tall as Garde.

However, Garde didn't recognize the lizard woman beside Muccaka.

"Who's this?"

"She's my wife, Gagania."

When Muccaka introduced his wife, his face beamed with happiness.

Given the harsh living conditions in the Hotlands, things were different from the outside world.

While Muccaka might not be considered an adult by Terran standards, Garde had once seen a nine-year-old lizardman who was already a grandfather.

So Garde, albeit reluctantly, offered his congratulations.

"Congratulations, congratulations."

After all, different species, different customs—he understood.

Then Muccaka pulled Garde aside and whispered, "Uncle Garde, you're not getting any younger. Have you thought about settling down and starting a family? You can't just wander around forever, can you?"

"Uncle?" Garde thought, feeling slightly insulted.

He was only eighteen!

"Heh, no rush, no rush," Garde forced a smile. "Besides, I already have a fiancée. Once I get back home, we'll get married."

"What? You already have a wife!?"

Muccaka's shout caught everyone's attention, particularly Raya's.

Her eyes dimmed instantly when she heard her brother's words.

Seeing his sister run off in disappointment, Muccaka turned to Garde with an apologetic look.

"Sorry, Uncle Garde. Raya likes you so much, I had to do it."

Garde nodded, indicating he understood.

How could he not? Raya was only eight years old!

In the Hotlands, eight-year-old lizardfolk were considered adults, could marry, and have offspring.

But outside the Hotlands, even in the Rainforest, would you dare marry an eight-year-old girl?

You'd be breaking the law, you know that?

And as for why Muccaka called Garde "Uncle," it was because Garde was nearly twice Muccaka's age.

In the Hotlands, Garde could practically be Muccaka's father!

After exchanging some pleasantries with his old acquaintances, Garde brought up the real reason he was there.

"You need to take some people along? No problem!"

Muccaka thumped his chest, clearly holding a high position in the caravan.

Even if Garde hadn't offered anything in trade, arranging for a few people wouldn't have been an issue.

Now that Garde was willing to trade a treasure and a valuable dragon carcass, the caravan had no reason to refuse.

"Alright, everyone, we've got work to do!"

Muccaka whistled, and from the sand dune, a massive creature slowly rose, its enormous head lazily turning to look at them, as if to ask, What's up?

Garde recognized it as a camel-beast, but it was far larger than any camel-beast outside the Hotlands.

From head to tail, its size rivaled the dragon he had previously slain, and it was possibly even larger.

"This disaster beast, we call it a 'Luo'—just like its massive size. It eats a lot, and our tribe couldn't afford to keep it before. But after merging with another tribe, we cleared a shrubland to serve as its food source."

Muccaka spoke with pride, for his tribe was growing stronger.

With their strength, newborns would no longer starve due to a lack of food, allowing for more hands to work, and their lives would undoubtedly improve.

However, Garde's mood was not as optimistic.

He realized that if he hadn't been in front, the caravan might have stumbled upon those mining robots.

The Hotlands were vast, with ancient civilizations confined to small areas and coexisting with the disaster beasts around them without interference.

Yet, the Hotlands were also small—if the sand-crawlers weren't hindered by the environment, it would take only a few days to cross the entire Hotlands and reach the vast sea at its end.

As civilization expands, it will inevitably encounter all sorts of challenges and obstacles.

And Garde? He was just a passerby, an outsider who happened to cross paths with the lizardfolk civilization.

Despite his somewhat lizard-like appearance, he was certain he was not one of them—there was definitely a biological barrier between him and the lizardfolk.

So, leaving aside the question of aesthetics, Garde had no intention of getting involved with the lizardfolk.

But Raya thought differently.

From the moment she first met Garde as a child, she had been captivated by him.

Garde was not only strong but also knowledgeable, which was irresistible to a young girl just beginning to understand love.

However, Raya was a sensible girl.

She knew that forcing something would only lead to unhappiness, so if Garde already had a lizardfolk he liked, she could only wish them well.

"Is someone bullying you?"

Raya saw the small, skinny red haired girl that they had picked up, who looked entirely different from them, approach.

The girl spoke words that Raya couldn't understand.

Despite being much shorter and appearing weaker—someone who would likely cry for a long time after a single punch—the red-haired girl still held her head high, speaking with a confidence and pride that seemed to come from nowhere.

"I'll help you teach them a lesson!"

Even though Raya didn't understand those words either.
