Chapter 3:
Chapter 3: The Quack Doctor:
Xu Tian’s words, filled with veiled hatred, echoed in everyone’s ears. The steward’s expression darkened, and after giving the contract scattered on the floor a resentful glance, he stared at Xu Tian for a few seconds. Then, turning to Tang Bingyan, he simply said, “I’ll come again another day,” before leaving the room.
Insane!
What the hell was wrong with Xu Tian today?!
It was one thing to confront him directly, but now he even dared to block the Xu family from receiving Xu Group!
Clearly, Tang Bingyan had treated him too well, making him forget his place in the Xu family!
Just wait—once he reported this to the Patriarch, they would definitely expel that useless trash from the family!
With the steward and others gone, only three people remained in the hospital room—Tang Bingyan, her bodyguard Ah Wei, and Xu Tian.
“Bingyan, I’m sorry. I’m so sorry…”
“What happened last night was an accident. I didn’t know you were injured in a car accident. I thought… I promise I’ll never hurt you again. Please forgive me, okay? As long as you don’t divorce me, as long as you don’t leave me, I’ll accept anything.”
Xu Tian was so full of guilt and panic that he didn’t even know what to do with his hands. He didn’t dare meet Tang Bingyan’s cold eyes.
Tang Bingyan was briefly stunned by the so-called “sincere” apology.
Then, a bitter, mocking smile formed on her lips.
At this moment, the way she looked at Xu Tian was as if she were seeing a stranger.
“Is Xu Group not enough for you? What more do you want? Just say it.”
This—was the first time Tang Bingyan had ever spoken to Xu Tian with such coldness.
It was also the coldest tone she had ever used in her life.
Each word was like a thorn stabbing straight into Xu Tian’s heart, leaving him too pained to speak.
He gripped the divorce papers tightly, staring at Tang Bingyan’s beautiful face with aching determination.
“I stopped you from signing the contract with the steward not because I want more, but because I want you to know that from now on, I will never fight for the Xu family’s interests again.”
“I truly don’t want anything. I just want you.”
“I’m not asking for forgiveness. I just want a chance to make things right. Please, don’t divorce me.”
If this had been any other time, Tang Bingyan would’ve thrown caution to the wind and opened her heart to him at once.
But not this time.
This time, there was no joy or excitement in her heart—only sorrow.
Because every time… every single time Xu Tian lowered himself, it was only when he needed something from her.
And every time she chose to believe him, what she got in return were cruel betrayals and bleeding wounds.
“You didn’t make any mistakes. The mistake was mine…”
Tang Bingyan closed her eyes, not wanting to see Xu Tian anymore.
She couldn’t bear to look.
This was the man she had loved for years… the one she had tried to protect with her life.
But last night, he had wanted her dead.
And yet… why was she so pathetic?
Even though he pushed her down the stairs, even though he watched her pass out and nearly die… she still couldn’t bring herself to hate him!
All she felt now was heartbreak and disappointment.
Very soon, she gathered her emotions and her gaze returned to calm.
“That’s enough. There’s no need to say more. Since you brought the divorce agreement, sign it and give it to Ah Wei.”
“If there’s anything else you want, tell Ah Wei. As long as I have it, I’ll give it to you.”
“I’m tired. Once you’ve signed, just leave.”
With that, she looked at her bodyguard.
Ah Wei immediately pulled out a pen and held it out in front of Xu Tian.
Xu Tian stared at her pale face, desperately wanting to shout: I’ve been reborn. I know how terribly I failed you in our past life! I swear I’ll never hurt you again. I’ll spend the rest of my life protecting you!
But… who would believe something so absurd?
She would probably think he was mocking her with some ridiculous lie and become even more heartbroken…
“Xu Tian! You’ve got some nerve showing up here again?!”
Just as Xu Tian was racking his brain to find a way to explain, an angry voice suddenly rang out.
Chen Xiaoxiao stormed into the room with a middle-aged doctor and a nurse.
She glanced at Tang Bingyan and saw that her condition had stabilized a bit. Only then did she breathe a heavy sigh of relief.
Then she turned around, her expression cold and sharp as a blade, and stared at Xu Tian. Every word she said dripped with fury.
“You weren’t satisfied that CEO Tang’s life was already hanging by a thread—you had to come back and throw more fuel on the fire?! And you still dare to use divorce to threaten her?!”
Xu Tian didn’t even register what she said next.
His eyes were locked on the doctor who had followed Chen Xiaoxiao into the room—Lin Tong!
The man praised as the city’s top orthopedic specialist!
But having lived a full lifetime, Xu Tian knew clearly—this man was nothing more than a fraud! A quack!
His so-called reputation came mostly from forged connections and stolen credit.
If it hadn’t been for the fact that an important figure died under his treatment a year later, sparking a scandal too big to suppress, Xu Tian wouldn’t have even noticed him in the trending headlines!
Why was he here now?
Was this the same doctor who ruined Tang Bingyan in the past?!
Xu Tian remembered clearly—back then, this man insisted that she needed immediate surgery, and that the success rate was extremely high.
Xu Tian didn’t stop Lin Tong right away. He just stood silently, waiting to hear his diagnosis.
“Assistant Chen, you’re overstepping.”
“CEO Tang, I…”
“Huff…”
Chen Xiaoxiao took a deep breath, glared at Xu Tian, and brought Lin Tong in front of the weak Tang Bingyan. “Dr. Lin, this is the CEO Tang I mentioned on the phone.”
“Pleasure to meet you, CEO Tang. I’ll start by examining your injuries.”
But before Lin Tong could even touch her wrist, Tang Bingyan instinctively pulled her hand back.
At once, Chen Xiaoxiao took out a silk handkerchief and covered Tang Bingyan’s wrist. She quickly apologized, “I’m sorry, CEO Tang has a cleanliness issue when it comes to men. Please understand.”
Lin Tong was momentarily stunned. He forced a laugh, then quickly put on a serious face.
“CEO Tang… your injuries have gone untreated for over twelve hours, haven’t they? Originally, they weren’t too serious. But a few hours ago, you sustained a second set of injuries on your back and calves. Your second rib has signs of fracture, and both your abdominal and thoracic cavities show signs of severe trauma…”
“If surgery isn’t performed soon, it could lead to permanent paralysis!!!”
The final sentence hit everyone in the room like a bomb.
Par… paralysis?
“I-Is it really as serious as the hospital director said?”
Chen Xiaoxiao was stunned and couldn’t help but question, “But CEO Tang doesn’t look that bad! How could this be?”
“That’s because the injuries are internal. You can’t see them from the outside,” Lin Tong explained seriously. “If we miss the best time for surgery, she might be confined to a wheelchair for the rest of her life!”
As those words sank in, both Chen Xiaoxiao and Ah Wei turned pale in an instant.
Their furious gazes quickly turned to the trembling Xu Tian.
It was all his fault!
If it weren’t for him, how could CEO Tang have gotten hurt so badly?!
Seeing their faces, Lin Tong felt a hidden thrill.
He had long heard that CEO Tang had a remarkable identity. If he could display his medical skills now, he might secure a powerful connection with her!
With that thought in mind, he smiled lightly. “But you don’t have to worry. I’ve already prepared a treatment plan. As long as CEO Tang cooperates, we can operate tonight.”
“I’m confident the success rate is over eighty percent.”
“Great! Thank you, Dr. Lin! Please make the arrangements immediately…”
Chen Xiaoxiao was frightened by the word “paralysis” and agreed without hesitation, urging him to begin the surgery.
“Don’t worry, CEO Tang. With me handling this, the operation will be a complete success!”
Lin Tong beamed.
Once the surgery succeeded, he would become the hero who saved her life!
And after that…
However—
Just as Chen Xiaoxiao and Lin Tong were discussing the operation, Xu Tian suddenly raised his head, his expression so dark it looked like he could kill someone.
He took a step forward, blocking their way, and spoke each word with force:
“He’s not allowed to treat her!”
