The Asshai's Bloodmage

Chapter 37: Schemes and movements part 2

In a luxury restaurant, just two streets away from where the explosion happened, many people are agitated, wondering what the explosion was, and the smoke that can be seen even from here. Two women are having a few drinks while chatting at their table. The two of them are, of course, Liza and her sister Zaya. Liza constantly asks Zaya questions about various things related to magic and her sister answers patiently. As someone who has just discovered more about this world, her older sister's curiosity is natural, she was like that too 4 years ago. Her sister then continues:

—Can you use any spells? If so, which ones? Can I see?

So Zaya answers again patiently:

"I can't use any spells yet, it takes about 10 years for someone to master a single spell and I only started my studies 4 years ago. There are even some people who can take 20 years sometimes."

—So what have you learned in these 4 years? And what spell are you learning? What does it do? We will be at sea for about 8 months, can you teach me how to do it?

Zaya smiles and answers patiently again:

"For the past 4 years I have only meditated, and learned alchemy from my father to become a Blood Mage. As I told you last time, Blood Mages are not mages who use fancy elemental spells, but rather a profession, he is an expert in modifications and study of the body. While the necromancer is an expert in modifying and altering souls. Another example would be that not all shadow mages are shadowbenders, but every shadowbender is a shadow mage. While learning spells requires talent, time, money and exhaustive and repetitive understanding. Learning a profession requires a lot of study, a creative mind and natural aptitude. Spells are also a mage's greatest secret, you can't ask which one they have. They are their greatest assets in a moment of danger. But since we are going to study together I don't mind telling you. I have been tested and my primary element is wind just like my father. The first spell I am learning is called Soft Fall, it It allows me or several people to fall from high places without getting hurt. We haven't tested what its primary element is yet, but as soon as we're on board the ship we'll do the test, okay?"

—Okay, one last question then?

Zaya nods and Liza continues:

—Is there really no way to learn faster? 20 years seems like a lifetime to learn just 1.

"There are actually 3, the first is if you inherit a legacy from another wizard in the form of a totem. But the chance of that happening is very low, see, even though I'm my father's daughter, he never gave me something like that. The reason is that such an item has a very high price to be created and its ingredients are rare too. They are normally passed down from generation to generation only when the previous owner dies. But I already know from my father that I have other brothers, so I wouldn't even be the first option to receive such a thing if he miraculously gave up something so precious. The second method is to become a priest, but I don't really understand about it, my father didn't explain the details and just told me to stay away from churches."

—You said there are 3 options, what's the last one?

While smiling and looking fondly at her older sister Zaya continued:

"The other one is even rarer than the first, it would be to create your own spell. We call this an innate spell, but how could you create something if you haven't even studied and learned it yet? Usually only special races are born with this kind of talent, an example of these races are the children of the forest who are born with the innate spell of controlling plants. There are some rare items that can help a wizard create these spells, but they are like angel feathers, only talked about and never seen before, not even my father has ever been lucky enough to find one of these."

Liza sighs when she realizes that her fast track to magic has been cut off, and goes back to eating her snacks and drinking her drink. Several minutes later a man comes to the table and gives Zaya a report, when she finishes reading it she turns to her sister and says:

"There was an explosion in the largest brothel in the eastern district, the cause is still unknown. There were more than 200 dead and at least 90 injured. 12 nobles from lesser houses and 30 large and small merchants are among the dead. Among them, one of the leaders of the triarchy, Kulan and his eldest son Malcon died in the explosion, Kuzar was injured but survived, our second and third brothers also perished in the explosion. Only our fourth brother survived, but he lost both legs."

Liza sighed, she knew that Malcon's negative karma would still catch up with him. He pretended all his life to be a good eldest son who loved our mother just to get what he wanted. Which was the mercenary group that his mother nurtured during almost 20 years of hard work. His mother let him take over the group because he was her perfect eldest son. Only the next day after obtaining the documents from the famous mercenary group, he repudiated our mother and said horrible things to her... He even said he was disgusted and despised her and her profession. Malcon's malicious words and his betrayal were worse than any pain anyone had ever inflicted on Madame Rose in her entire life. The even greater blow was that her other 3 sons supported Malcon's words and cut ties with her.

Later, her former mercenary group was used against Madame Rose herself, removing all the other businesses she had in the city through violence, bribery and threats. Fearing for the lives of her daughters, she could only accept the losses and retreat until only the pleasure houses were left under her control. Soon a new name emerged and the members of the Triarchy were also changed, no longer including Madame Rose's name. The new member of the Triarchy was now Kulan, Kuzar's infamous brother and also Malcon's biological father. It was only after this that Madame Rose finally discovered the villain behind it all and accepted her losses, maintaining a firm grip on her brothels. By this time, all of her daughters had disowned their brothers and taken strong stances to help their mother in any way they could.

Among them, Liza was the most fearless, accepting to become a new symbol of beauty in her mother's brothels. Her clients, including a certain bastard, numbered less than 4 and all brought new support to her mother's weakened business. Liza paid a great price for doing so, losing her purity in the process and always harboring great anger towards her brothers. Now that all the guilty parties had suffered the consequences, she was satisfied, feeling no remorse for her mother's attempt that took so many lives, she turned and calmly told her younger sister that they should visit their fourth brother who had now become a cripple. A cold and mocking look passed through Zaya's eyes before she said with a smile:

"Of course we should lend our support."
