The Asshai's Bloodmage

Chapter 32: Destroyed Totem Part 2

Today had been a peaceful morning like any other for the Immortal. He was a famous necromancer in the land of shadows, with an extremely long life and a lot of accumulated knowledge. His fame as a strong necromancer crossed the seas and reached one of the 40 Valyrian families that recruited him using part of his blood magic legacy. Since then, in exchange for the knowledge he needed, he agreed to serve the family for 1000 years. And today it had been more than 700 years that he had been in this duty.

During this morning, something a little unusual caught his attention. One of the totems that was in the depths of the 13th flame returned to activity. Meaning that a new wizard was born or an apprentice inherited the legacy of his master. Judging by the shape of the totem and its ingredients, it was a fire-type totem. When he felt the vision of the new wizard observing the surroundings, he smiled at him before asking if the bitch next to him knew anything about which family or wizard that totem belonged to. But she barely paid attention to it, saying that it was one of the oldest among the more than 50 totems stored here. The Immortal would never have guessed that not less than 30 minutes after this event, something terrible would happen to the two who guarded this place. Staying in this chamber with a volcanic river was a duty, but also a benefit. The environment was great for practicing fire spells, and rare ingredients such as dragon scales, blood, and fangs could be freely collected from the chained dragon for their own research and magical experiments. But there was also an ulterior motive for the Immortal to be here as well, and that was the woman by his side. He was slowly affecting his clairvoyance slightly, as to the reason? It didn't matter now. When the Immortal was reading another of his many books, something unexpected happened. He felt an immense danger coming from his own clairvoyance, but when he looked at his "companion" he saw her silently without moving. It was then that he confirmed that the danger did not come from the treacherous woman but from somewhere else. But it was too late. That was when a high-speed arrow hit his left eye, piercing his head, and he fell dead to the ground. The woman had a similar fate, having her body pierced by 4 arrows in several places, she reacted to the attack by giving a horrible scream and a spirit of fire that had the same shape as her advanced towards the more than 20 armed men who were now entering the cave from various directions…

***

What I was seeing after focusing on totem number 3 was something shocking, about 40 men were attacking the cave area with the river of lava, most of them were using rags as clothes, and pieces of iron and wood as weapons, with only a minority having armor and a real weapon in their hands. In addition to the 40 men, more than 20 bodies were already lying all over the cave, most of them burned corpses. The Valyrian woman I saw earlier was floating through the cave while her body spits flames from her hands, but her body is riddled with at least 8 arrows, anger and fury is seen on her face, while blood runs from her lips.

She clasps her hands together and says something I can't hear, and then a flame in the shape of a circle comes out of her body, burning at least eight more men before she finally falls from the sky, unconscious. I don't know if she's alive or dead. I take my eyes off her and see 5 men with swords fighting with the "old man." Unlike the woman, his situation is even more terrible. He has an arrow stuck in his eye that went through his head, but I don't know how he's still alive. He fights violently and without worrying about the wounds on his body.

Swords cut and pierce him all the time, but he uses this to kill as many as he can while exchanging wounds. Suddenly, one of the men manages to get close at the cost of the death of his companions and cuts off the old man's head. His body falls to the ground and they breathe a sigh of relief, only for terror to cover their faces. The headless body stood up and, holding the sword, began to attack the other men who were still nearby after the woman was defeated. As the body moved, I saw a translucent soul appear floating behind it. It looked just like the old man and controlled the dead body as if it were a puppet. Soon, the archers who were shooting at the woman turned their attention to the old man, starting to prepare fire arrows in an attempt to stop the walking corpse from massacring them all. When the old man's "soul" saw the fire arrows, he knew it was his end. He looked directly at the wall where I was standing and I heard a voice inside my head.

"Fellow mage, I'm about to die here. Do me one last favor. There's a Blood Mage who lives in the Cipele Mansion on the outskirts of the central district. Tell him that I and that bitch Countess are dead. He'll reward you well for the information."

Shortly after, several Flaming arrows hit the headless corpse and it falls dead after burning for a while. I see the soul become even more transparent until it disappears. Then I see something even more frightening, one of the well-dressed men approaches and begins to cut the face off the fallen Old's men head, the technique is so sinister that even the hair comes off with it. I see another man approach as he removes his own face and a new appearance emerges. At that moment a third man comes and says something in an angry tone to the two, while pointing in the direction where I am with the other bizarre "sculptures" that I suspect are other totems.

Then they stop what they are doing, most of them begin to shoot arrows at the poor chained dragon that tries to breathe fire at them, but with no chance since they are too far away for the flame to reach them. It will only be a matter of time before the young dragon is killed while chained. Then I see 3 other archers start shooting flaming arrows at the sculptures next to me, it doesn't take long to understand what's going to happen before an arrow comes towards me and the vision is cut off. My mind goes back to the ship where Omar is waving worriedly at me as I stare catatonically at the still sea.

"Rafa, are you okay? I've been calling you for about 30 seconds and you were just staring at the lost sea."

—I'm sorry Omar, I just had a vision, something is happening in the city, I need to go out for a bit and then I'll tell you what happened.

He nods and I leave while keeping a neutral face on the outside.

'Damn you damn faceless men! Did you have to go so far?'

I'm burning with fury as I confirm the message from my system:

[Totem number 3 located in the depths of the 13th flame has been destroyed]

[The number of daily fireball spells has been permanently reduced by 3]
