Chapter 10: Choices
I arrive late in front of the bank, but I don't see Omar around, it seems he's late too. So while I wait, I start to reflect on some of my plans, taking into account the missions issued by the system, for now I don't plan on following it blindly, but if it's within my reach I should complete some of these missions and see if I can gain some advantage in this dangerous world. The mission to free a slave seems to be the simplest, all I need to do is buy one at an auction house and then free him. I don't need to risk myself by freeing a slave that doesn't belong to me. When I think about what the system's goal is in this type of mission, all I can think of is the word gratitude. If a slave is bought and then freed he will become extremely grateful to the person who saved him, knowing how seriously the people of this world take honor I can gain a loyal follower... I look at the 3 quests that are part of a single segment:
4-1- Escape to Asshai
4-2- Escape to Westeros
4-3- Escape to Essos
If I go to Westeros, I may end up having a closer relationship with my paternal family; The Targaryens, but I don't believe this relationship will be of the friendly type, I must be down to earth and remember that my father is a bastard, I would live a life of prejudice, I'm sorry, but I'm not interested in that. The other option would be to use the gold that Omar and I will get to raise an army and become lords of some region, preferably far from Dragonstone, we would live a good life for the next 100 years before the conquest begins. But it is not guaranteed that we would live in peace since I do not have much information about the small skirmishes and wars in that region. The situation in Essos would be even worse, with the fall of Valyria the colonies will all rebel and the infamous Century of Blood will begin. Finally, we have Asshai, which is my main choice. I want to know more about this world and its mysteries, know if the gods are real, learn magic not only to gain more power, but also to defend myself from other sorcerers. Asshai will not be affected by the wars that will arise, the only problem is that food and water are two scarce things in that place. With my knowledge of the land I can easily solve the water problem, so having a good life there will not be too difficult. Another disadvantage of Asshai would be that I do not know all its dangers. But the name of my system makes me confident that I can become a Blood Mage, and I know the enormous potential of this type of mage, after all, they were the ones who created the dragons. Leaving aside my fate, which has now been decided, I turn to the 3 missions that I can still try to complete:
The first would be revenge against the Brown brothers. I'll have to leave that for my last day here. It's too risky to commit a crime and end up in jail or executed. The second and easiest mission would be to try to store Valyria's knowledge. I can try that tomorrow afternoon after I've sorted out my business at the port. I just have to figure out how much knowledge I would have to store to ensure the mission's completion. Books are expensive, but I'm willing to buy a lot if it gives me some new advantage in the system when it levels up. Besides, wouldn't my goal of learning more about this world be wasted if I let so much knowledge burn? The third and final mission would be to find one of these two storage bags. I could hire someone to steal one for me, but I don't know if that's a good idea. If this bag is what I'm thinking of... Should I try to buy one?
As I try to remember any information about the supposed magic bag, I see my friend slowly approaching the Bank, a disgusting smile is plastered on his face as if he was thinking about something perverted, one of his hands does not leave his pocket the whole time. I block his path and wave my hand as if to wake him from his perverted sleep. He finally comes out of his own thoughts when he sees me and a wide smile appears on his face before he shouts:
"RAFA WE ARE RICH HAHAHA"
Almost all the passersby look at us with the scream and laughter of the idiot, I start to get worried that we are targets of some thieves, he approaches me, and finally takes his hand out of one of his pockets then hugs me tightly, slapping his palms very hard on my back while whispering close to my ear:
"My father gave me a huge inheritance!"
When he says this I am really surprised, for Omar to consider the amount as a "huge inheritance" it must be a substantial amount capable of buying a second ship or even more. He steps away, reaches into his pocket again, and then pulls out a black bag and places it in my hand. The bag is made of a suede-like leather and has several golden threads sewn into it to form some sort of rune or hieroglyph. The bag is cold to the touch and I feel into that this freezing is something familiar to me… Before I can admire it more and Omar explains what it is, the System finally reacts:
[Shadow storage bag detected]
{Details} +
[Do you wish to break the current bond and register it in the system?]
[YES] [NO]
I quickly choose NO, as I don't know what breaking the bond means and this bag belongs to Omar. I look at him and ask:
—Did your father give you these shadow storage bag?
Omar seems surprised that I know what the bag is, but soon begins to tell me everything that happened in the mansion in a whisper, avoiding the looks that still remain on us after his scream. The gold bar was what I expected, from what I had read, the Velaryons had always been a very wealthy family due to trade and plundering at sea, when he said there was also a chest of jewels, I really praised Lord Leo for being so generous to his bastard son, all this added to the bag that is priceless even with buyers, he really received a huge inheritance. But Omar said there is also another item that he will show me later, we crossed the street and approached the bank ready to get even more money.
A/N: Attention to Valyrian Steel, and valyrian steel. The first in capital letters represents the magical metal created by the Blood Mages. The second is just common steel made by valyrian blacksmiths.
