Chapter 53 - Giving Him A Lesson To Remember
Lucas' eyes gave a trail of red as they moved through the misty clearance. He was in the air, with his fist clenched. All around his wrist, fur was beginning to show. He had begun to transform into a werewolf.
His face and his arms were covered in grey fur within an instant, and his open mouth had fanged teeth, which were curled up in a maniacal smile. Yes, he was smiling because of this fight.
"Old friend looks like I have to jog your memory.", Lucas shouted as he punched the minotaur straight on his cheek. The minotaur could not defend fast enough, and he stumbled back in response. Lucas landed on the ground and frowned his eyebrows. He took a look at his palm, and then at the minotaur, who had just recovered his footing.
"Something is wrong. The minotaur is more powerful than I remember. His skin is harder, and his face is well, not that squishy. That punch should have thrown him far away, but he just stumbled back. Someone enhanced him for sure.", Lucas said.
"And that is why we warned you not to be cocky.", Michael said as he pulled up the sleeves of his shirt. He shook his hands a little, and they also started transforming.
His transformation was a little different than that of Lucas'. He had blue eyes, for one. And, he had pitch black fur throughout his hands and face, as if he was the embodiment of the night itself.
"Looks like I have to join the fray.", Michael said.
"Shut up. Who asked you to join me? I just said that this was strange. I never said that it was going to be tough.", Lucas retorted as he jumped again. The minotaur who charging at him, with his ax about to hit Lucas. Lucas was in the air, and he stepped on the ax, which was almost as big as a human.
He started running on the thin handle, barely balancing himself, and he ran up to the minotaur's arm. He used the elbow as a foot hold and jumped once again. He jumped with such force, that a crack could be heard. The minotaur dropped the ax and howled in pain.
Lucas clenched his hands once again and punched the minotaur in the exact same place that he hit him before, but harder. A strong sound came from the punch, and Lucas' eyes darted. He looked around with confusion.
The minotaur stumbled back again, but it was nowhere close to the scene that Lucas described would happen if Lucas hit the minotaur properly.
"What the hell? Something is wrong. Is someone buffing this fool?", Lucas asked.
"Are you saying that there might be someone who is supporting him? But you said that the reinforcements that were coming were werewolves. What do you mean someone is buffing him?", Michael asked him.
"What the hell would I know? I am not exactly the best person to detect magic. Could just be a few arrays around me. Eva, how about you help us in this case? Why don't you scan this area?", Lucas looked at Eva.
"Stop talking to me like you command me.", Eva harrumphed.
"Lucas is right. There are indeed, many arrays around us that I wouldn't have found unless I looked for them. Looks like they were hastily put together. They might have understood that Lucas would have destroyed the minotaur within a few minutes, and so they got this to happen.", Praneeth said.
"So then, can you destroy them? Or should I start using more power? I don't want to, that will just make me lose control faster.", Lucas said.
"Then our course of action is pretty clear, isn't it?", Praneeth replied.
"You start working on that, I will be distracting this hunk of meat for a bit.", Lucas nodded and he moved closer to the minotaur. He started moving away from the council members, as if trying to take the fight away from them.
"Michael. I was wrong. You should help as well. You don't have the same constraints that I do.", Lucas shouted.
"I'm sorry, I couldn't hear that. What did you say?", Michael laughed.
"Just shut up and help me. I don't need your help. I just prefer it, because it will make both our lives a hell of a lot easier.", Lucas said as he jumped to the side.
Right where he was standing, the minotaur's axe slammed the ground. This time, the ground did not like it as much, and it started cracking a little.
"This makes me wonder, how the hell does an idiot like you live in a cave? Doesn't like the ceiling collapse everytime you fart?", Lucas shouted towards the minotaur.
It seemed that he could vaguely understand the words that Lucas spoke, because he roared with anger and jumped towards Lucas. Lucas' face changed as he started moving back hastily.
The minotaur towered over him as it fell down. Lucas was instantly enveloped by a shadow, and he disappeared beneath the minotaur's huge body.
"So then. are we going to help him out?", Arthur asked the rest of the council members who were looking at the fight like they were looking at a show.
"Let's just wait and see how it will turn out. I'm pretty sure that he is going to get up and get ready for another beating very soon.", Arthur said.
"My money's on five seconds.", Angela suddenly said.
"A hundred on six. The minotaur looks like a very heavy man.", Eva said.
"I'm going to bet on my man Lucas. I'll match your bet for four seconds.", Mu Chen said.
They all looked forward, and started counting the time. But something peculiar happened. Five seconds passed, nothing. Ten seconds passed still nothing. The minotaur started shaking and it got up, and the council members started leaning forward to see what happened.
Below the minotaur, there was... absolutely nothing.
"Looking for me?", Lucas' voice came from behind Eva.
"Goddamn it, who wins the bet then?", Eva bit her lip.
"I think I do. I beat all your expectations right?", Lucas said.
