Chapter 40 - Tough Fight
Raphael quickly dodged another attack from the monster. The hands left an imprint on the concrete floor that they were standing on. Raphael smiled bitterly as he raised his sword to attack again. Once again, the arm that the monster used to defend itself just fell out like it was a loosely put together lego block.
But, with Raphael now mid-air, he has no place to dodge the attack of the monster from the left hand. Raphael's face changed as he raised his sword flat like a shield and attempted to block the attack.
Bam! Raphael was thrown back by the sheer blunt force of the attack. His clothes were melting away at a rapid pace, and there were a few cuts on his face and his hands where the acid had splattered. He cursed as he gripped his sword tight.
"How the hell should I defeat a monster that constantly regenerated like that? It clearly does not have a core or something where I can attack. This is like an ultimate soldier.", he thought out loud as he roared into battle again.. Once more, he cut down on the approaching hand, but he was careful this time, and made sure not to leave himself defenseless.
The monster's arm fell down crashing onto the ground. By now, the floor was no longer how it used to be, and it was completely corroded, with holes here and there. Raphael was struggling to find a foothold, and was losing his balance quite frequently.
He jumped forward and went in for the final strike. Instead of the arms, he aimed at the head, hoping that this time would be different. The monster used its arms as a shield, but Raphael knew that using something like Tofu as a shield would only delay an inevitable outcome. The sword slid through the arms and went straight for the face.
Slid
The face just cleaved off clean. It disfigured immediately, and the shape of the face quickly became a watery solution of acid that fell onto the ground. Raphael retreated once more and looked on to the monster to see the outcome of his final strike.
To his horror, however, the monster was still moving. The slimy body quickly moved and recreated the face. Raphael grunted.
"How the hell am I supposed to defeat something that just won't die?", he cursed.
He was about to jump for another bout when he noticed something very peculiar. The humongous monster that created a loud thud whenever it took a step was no longer so humongous. It was as tall as Raphael now. It seemed that the monster DID have a weakness, but that would only be revealed in a battle of attrition.
Raphael smiled. "Now all I have to do is slice you into as many parts as possible. That just happens to be my forte.", he laughed out. The monster did not heed his words and continued to fall forward.
Raphael dodged this quickly and raised his sword to cut into the monster's stomach once more. Acid gushed out of the wound for a few moments, but the wound healed itself in mere seconds, and the monster roared in anger.
Shaking his head, his sword started dimming down the flame. Looking at the sword, Raphael sighed. "Looks like you faced the brunt of the attacks huh? Don't worry. All of this will be over soon.", he said in a soft voice. The sword vibrated in response.
He raised his sword and disappeared from his position. No longer able to see Raphael, the monster was confused. It turned around, but no luck. No one could be seen. It roared in anger and started thrashing its hands.
"Above you!", Raphael's voice suddenly arrived.
A red line appeared in the middle of the monster's body, symmetrically aligning its body. For a moment, it was as if nothing happened. Then, all of a sudden, acid guushed out like it came out of a dam, and the monster split in half. It gave one final wail, and it collapsed into a pool of acid. Raphael knew better than to fall into this pool, and he quickly held onto one of the lights and failed around, waiting for the acid to wash away to the other side of the corridor.
"Wow, that was tough. Wait a minute. Is that a person inside the slime? Who the hell could that be?", Raphael was still on his guard.
There was a man lying on the floor at the middle of all of this. Once the acid had evaporated and swept away, Raphael let go of the light and fell down to the ground right next to the man. He bent down to look at him.
The man had a disfigured face and looked nothing like a human. It was as if his whole body was burnt away. His eyes were wide open, a consequence of having no eyelids at all. The eyes were moving around rapidly.
"Don't go further. The Marquess will not like it,", he muttered repeatedly in a low voice. Raphael looked at this with caution.
"Looks like I have to warn the other of something.", he thought to himself as he quickly ran towards where the others had gone.
