THE ALPHA (UNKNOWN)

Chapter 27: The Bastard Who Lied.

Two hours before the dance that Leonardo had asked of Ciara, he had walked in into the hall. And since everyone's attention were on the dance floor and on the latest gossip, it gave him time and opportunity to hide in the shadows. But not long enough, his aura had drawn the eyes of people.

Not long enough.

His eyes swept through the hall for the sixth time that night, he hadn't seen her and he didn't know if he was relieved or disappointed.

Not like her to miss this kind of party but he also didn't want her here, for sure people wouldn't take their eyes off her because he knew. If she was here, she'll be dressed half naked as usual.

Again, he looked from the other end to his side of the hall, it was not too dark and the air was perfect, slight chilly but nothing too cold for him.

He had been invited but he wanted to come when he was sure the party would end not less than an hour, but hey, he has been here on his fifth glass of whiskey as people danced as if their legs were made out of feathers. He should've declined, stayed on his bed and listened to Pete's ramblings than be here, being the attraction of people's attention.

The attention he never wanted, if didn't matter if he came earlier or later, people still made the same reaction.

Fuck!

Murmurs that turned to loud voices filled his ears,

"Who is he?"

"I haven't seen him in my life!"

"He isn't human, or werewolf too."

"Where did he get that beautiful face from?"

"Listen to his heartbeat! It's strange!"

Roshan's eyes narrowed to the women beside the table of drinks. They gasped and hurried away after seeing the color of his eyes.

"Pests." He murmured and sighed silently, moving to another end where people were less. Disappointed that in almost three minute standing and watching the Alpha dance with a strange man, people were already slowly crowding his vicinity again.

Those women must have said something because the people who came over were more of women. Single women to be exact. He could hear them very clearly.

"He's so handsome!"

"I want to approach him."

"Are you stupid? He looks strange!"

"Like a killer of a sort."

At this point, Roshan wished he could stop hearing from a far distance.

"Excuse me." A voice called.

Roshan turned and looked down at the brown eyes woman beside him.

He was either a very tall man or the girl was very short because he could see into her tight cleavage and ontop of her head.

He didn't reply, finding it hard to believe someone as young and small as her could build up courage to walk to him without fear.. or.

Her lips trembled as she smiled slowly.

She was sacred. But not because of his aura or brooding personality, she hadn't done something like this before. She was shy.

He arched a brow at her, not knowing how to reply her.

"Uhm..nm" She stuttered and smiled again,

"Maria." She began. "Lady Maria of DrythArths Pack."

He remained quiet still. He understood her but.. words were numb.

He was tired of the whole thing, the party, the women, the men who glared. Everything.

"I'm the cousin to the Alpha Fredrick Leonardo." She simplified.

Roshan slowly nodded, he understood she wanted a reply but he had nothing to give her.

She was beautiful yes, young too.

Brown eyes, brown hair, a smiling face with soft girl attitude.

But no.

He wanted Red.

He wanted the feisty red hair that could never shut up, he wanted the almost naked girl at every event.

Maria felt embarrassed, her cheeks red.

Roshan hadn't said a word to her and yet he just stared. He seemed distracted.

Alexandre almost laughed at the back.

A glass in her hand she walked to them, she was passing by and recognized the girl.

"The lady deserves an answer." She said when she was close enough.

Both Maria and Roshan turned to the new member of their discussion.

Roshan almost stopped breathing…

Fuck!

She was here!

Alex smiled slightly at him before looking at Maria, she bowed at Alex.

Alex smiled again and nodded at the girl.

"Maria. I heard about your debut. Congratulations girl."

The girl smiled again, this time less embarrassed. She seemed familiar with Alex.

"But I must advise.." Alex narrowed her eyes at Roshan before turning to her again.

"This young man isn't for you. He much older than your grandfather if you ask me."

Maria turned to Roshan, confusion written all over her face.

Roshan remained stoic as the two women talked about him as if he were not there.

"My grandfather was three hundred and sixty-five years when he died."

"Young, Maria." Alex sighed and paused.

"She wanted a dance with you, bet you just wanted to ignore her while she stood moping."

Roshan gave Alex a glare which she ignored as she still smiled at the girl, Maria.

"Maria darling." She purred.

"He's the guest of the Alpha and a novice to the werewolf traditions." Alex explained.

Maria nodded softly.

"You just reached the age to socialize at events like this. I think you should go for guys of your age. Run along now, he can be quite mean."

Maria gave Roshan a last glance before giving a curt bow and leaving.

Alex smiled and finally looked at Roshan, dropping her glass on a servant's tray.

"Hello." She dragged her greeting.

Roshan almost rolled his eyes.

To think he had been avoiding her and now here they were. He couldn't think of anyway he could reply without saying something crazy like,

'Taking off that dress would be a sight for sore eyes'

He eyes trailed down….

Fuck!

"You were quite rude to the little lady." She said, avoiding the way his eyes undressed her.

He knew.

She wasn't going to pretend that he hadn't tried to make a fool out of her some days before.

But he wasn't listening.

His eyes were finally eating…. It'd been long he saw her and fuck he suddenly craved to touch her, to taste her, to eat her, to fucking finish her.

She had no idea…

He cleared his throat softly and looked at the crowd, people were still looking but this time he wasn't bored at them, he was angry.

Their eyes were eating her.

Men!

Rage surged.

He wanted chaos, break some necks, blind some.

Different ideas crawled in, he had totally tuned off Alex words as he thought of crazy things he could do.

"….Zekeiel?"

Roshan snapped out of it as he turned to her, he glanced at the men one last time, promising to remember to visit them before they go home.

She smiled at him.

He frowned.

"What?"

She shook her head softly,

"I was complementing your dressing style. Didn't think demons wore other colors apart from black."

His eyes shifted.

Of course she was going to talk about it here.

She laughed again.

"Of course, the day we met you wore a brown coat. Should've remembered." She raised her hand to her head softly.

"How long did it take you to realize?"

She scoffed silently, "Immediately you were vomiting lies, I knew. And you don't get to ask the questions."

She sighed and looked at back the party.

"I'm trying to convince myself that you had a very good reason to lie to my face. Even though you knew it would look bad on you," she faced him.

"But no matter what I think or what you had in mind the main course is that you lied. Doesn't make you such a cool gentleman."

"I never said I was." He replied with no hint remorse.

Alex side glared at him, his attitude was something she hated, his guts too.

"A demon in a werewolf crowning ceremony…shouldn't be people be aware?"

Roshan's brow arched as a smile crawled on to his lips, was she trying to threaten him?

"Try harder, Red."

She looked at him.

How much she hated him!

"You bastard!" She cursed softly.

"Is there something else?" He drawled and picked up another glass of whiskey, sipping and looking away from her attractive face.

"You didn't have to lie." She began. "A one night stand didn't affect me emotionally- only mentally. I promised to kill you though."

He finally spared her a glance.

He understood now.

Her woman pride was hurt.

She was hurt.

But that wasn't the case, he wanted to protect her. That night was a big mistake and it might endanger her without her knowledge.

He didn't want that.

He wanted to be free first.

Released from whatever curse was placed on him.

"What's stopping you? You don't think you can do it?" He asked making her laugh.

"I can do a lot of things you would never be able to imagine." She said.

"But I have heard what Ciara had to say about you. Maybe, after we finish off with the rogues, I could kill you then."

Roshan's brow rose and with a smile, he nodded.

"Cheers to that." He said smugly.
