Chapter 59: Finding the distraction~
The team sat in the dimly lit hideout, tension hanging thick in the air. They knew what they had to do, but the plan was dangerous—far too dangerous. The Justice League, mind-controlled and more powerful than ever, stood between them and their only chance of victory. Their only option was to find a way to break the control... and that would require a distraction.
Aqualad, leaning over the map sprawled across the table, spoke up. "We need a distraction, something that can pull their attention long enough for us to do what we need."
"Impossible," Kid Flash muttered. "If we try, it's suicide. There's no way any person can take on this task."
He was right. No one on the team had the power to stop them—not without risking everything. The silence that followed felt heavy. Robin, however, seemed deep in thought. His fingers drummed rhythmically against the side of his cowl, calculating. Suddenly, he looked up, a mischievous smile tugging at the corners of his lips.
"Suicide, you say?" Robin grinned. "Glad we know someone suicidal."
Kid Flash blinked, processing Robin's words. His eyes widened, and he glanced at the others in disbelief. "You don't mean..."
Robin held up his phone. "Yeah, I think we have a volunteer for our little 'suicide mission.'"
Robin chuckled and shot a look to Kid Flash, who groaned. "How do we even find him? Without our tech, we're still running blind. We haven't seen Wade since he wiped the floor with us back in the—"
"HELLOOO~" Zatanna's annoyed voice interrupted, making Kid Flash flinch. "You know, magic stuff, remember?"
Zatanna rolled her eyes. "If you're looking for someone, I can track him down!"
_________
The organic ship hovered quietly in an uninhabited area, the barren land stretching out in all directions. There was an eerie stillness, no sign of life for miles. The team stood around, unease hanging thick in the air.
Kid Flash glanced at Zatanna, his eyes wide with skepticism. "Are you sure he's here? Or is any living person here at all?"
Zatanna sighed,
BUT THEN
Megan found something, her brow furrowing as she held her head with one hand, concentrating. The magical energy around her seemed to shift as she focused. "There's something... someone..." she muttered, her voice distant. "A living presence... underground."
Kid Flash blinked, his confusion mirrored by the others. "But the radar says this place is empty,. No life signs, nothing!
Miss martian, now frowning in concentration, slowly turned to the team. "The radar's wrong. There's something hidden... beneath us."
Aqualad stepped forward, his eyes narrowing as he scanned the area. "This could be it. Superboy—"
Superboy nodded without needing to be told twice. He understood the assignment.
With a grunt, he sprang into action, his muscles coiling before he shot down like a missile. He dove into the ground with full force, crashing through the earth like it was paper. The ground trembled beneath them as Superboy's impact tore through the surface, leaving a massive crater.
Moments later, the ground began to collapse, revealing a massive underground structure hidden beneath the barren land. Aqualad gave a sharp nod.
"This will take some time..."
____________
Kid Flash's voice was filled with disbelief as he stared down at the underground structure. "How in hell was he stuck in there? I swear, since we... knew him, our lives have been—"
Superboy, who had landed next to him, shot him a look.
Kid Flash raised his hands in mock surrender. "No offense, dude," he added quickly, but the sentiment wasn't lost on Superboy.
They all stood silently for a moment, watching the debris settle where Superboy had created an opening to the hidden underground lair. Suddenly, they heard a cough, followed by a weak, raspy voice.
"Huff... Agh, ooh... I knew you guys would—" the voice broke off in a rough laugh, the words heavy with sarcasm.
"please stop." the team said at the same time
