The Adaptive Quincy of Bleach

Chapter 10: Soken Ishida (10)

After persistently asking his cousin for who knows how long, he finally met Mister Ishida, the patriarch of the Ishida family, someone Ryuken couldn't quite figure out.

At least he hoped so.

Anyway, the man who was going to rescue him from the mean adult was there, ah yes, truly glorious.

He would finally be free and thus he made it his mission to glaze the old man in his mind.

Don't judge him, he will finally be free of the mean adult.

A fair trade-off.

In the Ishida family training area, which seemed to be a large forest, the light scent of tea and parchment lingered in the air.

Sora stood awkwardly before Soken Ishida, an elderly man whose calm demeanor and kind eyes gave him an immediate sense of warmth. The old man, dressed in traditional Quincy robes, seemed to radiate an aura of wisdom.

Soken studied the boy, he seemed to be faintly familiar with the boy, the man's brow did furrow a bit, and the boy Reiatsu was....abnormally large.

However, he would not comment on it.

"So, you're Kaede's son, aren't you?" His voice was gentle, but his words struck like a thunderclap.

And just with that sentence, the man managed to hit one of Sora's weakest spots, weakest sentence.

His mother....the mere mention of his mother's name caused the boy's golden eyes to widen a bit as a tear slid down his cheek, just the mention of her name sent a wave of emotion crashing through him

"I... I am," He managed to let out, his voice trembling...heavily.

The vision of how that blue light came out of nowhere played in his mind over and over again.

The way his mother was absorbed by that light...the way that when the light vanished, she was dead.

She was a shell of her former self, her soul had been snuffed out of her body by that dammed light.

Soken kind expression softened even further as he realise that the boy must have watched his mom be hit by the Ashvallen.

This must have been horrifying for the child.

The man clasped his hands together in his lap.

"Forgive me for bringing up a painful memory. Kaede was a remarkable woman. I regret not being able to protect her better."

Sora quickly wiped his face with the back of his hand and forced on a smile. "It okay," He said acting brave, even if his voice was giving him away

"She was proud of being a Quincy. I just... I want to make her proud too."

Yup, his mother was his main reason, he wanted to be a strong Quincy just like her, and make her proud of him.

Soken nodded, understanding in his eyes. "That is a noble sentiment, Sora. Now, tell me—what do you know about the Quincy?"

Sora thought on his answer for a while, he wanted to give a clear answer on his opinion of the Quincy "I read all the books I could find at the Ishida house," he began. "I know that the Quincy are humans with spiritual powers, and we were created to destroy Hollows. But unlike the Shinigami, when we kill Hollows, we completely erase their souls. That's why there's conflict between us and the Soul Society."

"This division between opinions caused a big war a thousand years ago and around 200 years ago, the shinigami did a mass genocide of most Quincy that were left."

Soken listened to the boy intently and nodded along as the boy spoke. Once he was sure the boy was done, the elder leaned forward slightly, clasping both of his hands together as if getting ready to ask the boy a very serious question.

"And what do you think of the Quincy, young one?" he asked, his eyes shining with curiosity.

"Can I be honest?" The boy asked looking at the man.

"You can be as forward as you want," The old man said in a rather soothing voice.

"I think the Quincy from 1,000 years ago were wrong, that I can admit, from what I have read, the shinigami did try to come into a consensus with them but none of them wanted that, they wanted to get rid of all the hollows, even If that would end with all the 3 words clashing against each other."

"I thought they were too prideful and, to some degree, deserve what happened to them 1,000 years ago. Even from what happened 200 years ago, I can get behind it. However, I noticed a lack of shinigami when Hollow attacked Karakuta town. They are getting lazy, and people are dying because of their laziness," the boy exclaimed in a rather calm voice.

He seemed to hold zero hatred for shinigami at all, seeing them more as more like some kind of balancer or the police, just like the police you didn't have to like them but you still knew that their job was important, and just like the police they could be very corrupt.
