Chapter 127: MISTAKEN AS AN EXPERT (2)
The elder gentleman had an awkward smile on his face as he did not expect his grandson to put up this silly show right in front of the eyes of their guest.
The elder lady gently nudged her husband before sending a menacing look towards her grandson.
"Ehem, everything has been prepared on the table; you can start preparing the potion right away."
Alan had a stupefied look on his face; at first he was amused to play along, but being thrown into the center of negotiation with someone who is clearly a noble born and asked to conjure a potion he did not hear of before today was not what he had in mind when he first entered this establishment.
"You can find the recipe that I want you to follow on the desk. I have paid a great deal to get my hands on this authentic recipe from an auction house, sold by someone who is from the same lineage as the creator of the potion."
The young master was full-on bragging in front of the noble lady who was amused by everything that was happening in front of her.
"That is very generous of you, young master; my expectations are rising by the moment after your talk."
With a huge smile on his face listening to the lady's soft voice, he felt as if he was on the right track projecting his image as the noble and refined young master who holds the same interest as this princess; in his head, he was already imagining a flowery future.
The Elder could not take it anymore, so he voiced his gentle objection masked by eloquent words.
"Even if my grandson had found a recipe, that does not mean that it is an authentic one; after all, a millennia had passed since the potion was lost."
The noble princess responded.
"One can only try, and from your grandson's enthusiasm, it is not wrong to expect something good to come out of it."
The elderly lady laughed as she intervened in the conversation.
"Hahah, what does my grandson know about potion making, my princess? Let's hope that it is at least of similar origin to the Samathina potion."
"What are you standing here for? Go ahead and do your job."
The grandson who did not read the atmosphere shouted at Alan, who was still standing before this noble gathering.
Looking to the left side, he saw the small work desk with many equipment and ingredients prepared for him to do his magic.
A slight smile appeared on his mouth as he elegantly answered the young master.
"As per the young master's orders, I pray you will be patient until the portion is done."
"Good!"
The young master answered enthusiastically as he saw Alan moving towards the work table prepared for him; meanwhile, his grandfather barely contained his anger as he clenched his fist, not believing what this stupid grandson had done.
They have made a great effort to get a sit-down with the lady in front of them; securing the upcoming supply deal will massively inflate their wealth and raise their social standing.
The elder lady smiled as she tried to change the topic and get back to their intended purpose.
"Lady Theodora, I have heard about the extensive need for supplying the anastalia herb in the capital; from what I know, there is a great shortage all around."
The young lady had a bright light in her eyes as she smiled, answering the elder in front of her.
Lady Theodora: "Indeed there is a great shortage right now; in fact, I even heard that the Beast Tamer Association and the other associations are also facing a dire need for that herb. The price keeps rising even until this moment; it still is."
The elder man finally saw a glimmer of light to ask for the purpose they needed for this meeting in the first place.
"I have also received these reports, as my wife said, Lady Theodora. We happen to have an extensive supply ready for departure at any time if needed; of course, we will aid the capital with everything we have."
Lady Theodora: "That is very generous of you, especially that many special interests group has started hoarding this specific resource from the moment the shortage was noticed, and some even before that. They must have a very good eye for business."
The ladies' words were like thunder in the ears of the elderly, leaving them stumped for words and allowing the bright young master to intervene.
"Those people are nothing but an opportunistic bunch, and from what I know, the federation has clear rules about this; severe punishments are waiting for such hoarders."
Lady Theodora had a cunning smile on her face as she agreed with that enthusiastic young master.
Lady Theodora: "Indeed, breaking the federation laws is always a death sentence, but not many people are thinking like you are, young masters."
"We are all from the human race, and we shoulder the responsibility to allow the race to prosper; that is what any outstanding citizen of the federation should be thinking at all times, my lady."
Right now the young master was on cloud nine, completely thrilled by his display of noblest oblige in front of the lady, completely capturing her attention yet oblivious to the inner anxiety boiling inside the hearts of the two elders.
"That's how I raised my grandson, and that is why we will not be selling this herb at the exact price of the market right now; after all, it has been inflated too much."
Lady Theodora: "That is very noble of you, elder lady. If you would like, I can facilitate the purchase of the extra load that you have, about 50% of the current price, still much higher than the original price, and there is a huge margin for profit. What is important is your fine establishment answering the call to do their duty in such times."
The lady threw the hook; as the word 50% came out of her mouth, the poker-faced elder could not help but crack as his face darkened.
He took a deep breath as he observed the princess in front of him, who looked demure and beautiful with no association whatsoever with the cunning business display that she orchestrated using their stupid grandson.
Sending a threat for the hoarders to warn them while leaving a way out with a slight meat on the bone for them to get from this deal.
Exchanging looks with his wife, he knew that there was no way out of this deal, the price had been set, and the federation was never kind to anyone who would be labeled as a hoarder in times of need; in fact, severe punishments were inflicted upon such people, and it was the truth that he had collected as much as he could when the news first reached his ears.
"We would be grateful for Lady Theodora to help us facilitate this deal, and of course we agree on the mentioned price."
Lady Theodora gave a bright smile that was blinding to everyone inside the room, completely capturing the heart of the lovesick young master, who unknowingly blew his grandfather's last 6 months of hard work.
Lady Theodora: "Then we are in agreement; one of my assistants will be here shortly to finish the paperwork."
The elder lady smiled awkwardly, and she nodded at this princess.
"We will prepare the shipment immediately."
Lady Theodora: "After talking so much, I feel slightly thirsty. Where is our young expert on the potion?"
...
Alan, who was standing right in front of the table, held the old paper containing the recipe to make the Samathina potion in his hand.
He could only rely on his talent, as he felt a rush of information floating in his mind.
Item: [Samathina potion] [FAKE]
Description: [The fake potion ingredients have miraculously marked two true ingredients while leaving the other six completely up to guessing, sold at an inflated price in the one-hand auction house, which is an underground auction with all kinds of merchandise, both fake and real.
The correct Samathina potion ingredients are…]
His lips were twitching as the young master had been dubbed to buy a fake recipe for God knows how much; lucky for him, the eye of Ra was in the working.
As he started following the detailed information listed regarding the true potion from the ingredients to the preparation method.
He felt like a cook following a recipe while watching a cooking show live.
As he was working, he could not help but listen to the exchange happening between these nobles.
He was surprised at how cunning the beauty was and slightly sorry for the two elders who had to endure being sabotaged from the inside by their own grandson.
The lady displayed wisdom beyond her years as she stood her ground and gained the upper hand even when dealing with such successful merchants.
He followed every step on the recipe while enjoying the show happening right next to him.
Not a bad afternoon, I guess.
