Su Fei was almost scared to death by Ning Xiangxiang. Who would be squatting at the door waiting for them at this late hour? It was terrifying! This was like something out of a horror story, scaring people to death.
Su Fei clung to Ningning like a koala. Ningning didn’t believe in ghosts or spirits. If they existed, his parents would have already come back to haunt those who mistreated him.
Protecting Su Fei, Ningning confronted the dark figure at the door, asking, “Who are you? What are you doing here? Speak up.” He held a stick he found on the roadside.
Ning Xiangxiang, holding two cans of milk powder, had been waiting outside in the cold winter weather for a long time, shivering. Seeing Ningning return, she couldn’t help but retort, “Are you blind? Can’t you see it’s a living person here!”
Ningning recognized Ning Xiangxiang’s voice as that of his old rival. Unafraid, he retorted, “What are you doing out here in the middle of the night, not sleeping at home? Don’t you know scaring people can kill them?” With that, he pushed him aside and started to open the door. He wanted to let Su Fei in first to prevent her from getting cold.
Furious, Ning Xiangxiang said, “Don’t you even want to know why I’m here? Don’t you want your family’s things anymore?” Then, he followed Ningning into the house.
To prevent any old flames from rekindling, Ningning directed Su Fei to the kitchen. “Go warm up the kang and boil some hot water. We’ll soak our feet tonight.”
Su Fei, adept at household chores, found some firewood in the kitchen and started a fire. “Alright, you rest inside. I’ll get the fire going,” she said, not even sparing a glance at Ning Xiangxiang.
Watching Su Fei obediently start the fire in the kitchen, Ning Xiangxiang was astonished. She had never seen a woman willingly do kitchen chores before. Those were tasks usually done by men.
“Aren’t you afraid Su Fei might divorce you in the future? There are rumors outside, and this feudalistic notion of marrying into a family won’t fly anymore.” Ning Xiangxiang looked at Ningning with concern. He thought he would regret his decision later on.
Ningning used to humiliate Su Fei by making her do kitchen chores, and she was visibly embarrassed. But now, seeing Su Fei willingly do it, he felt relieved. Su Fei didn’t seem to mind at all.
“That’s none of your business. This is between us. Why did you come here today?” Ningning asked, carefully putting away the items they had bought today.
Seeing Ningning take out the expensive clothes, Ning Xiangxiang felt particularly angry. Then, he saw him take out a pair of shoes from his basket. “Wow, leather shoes! Having a pair of leather shoes in the whole village is such a proud thing.”
Apart from the village head’s daughter’s husband, there were hardly any men in the village with such shoes.
Unable to believe his eyes, Ning Xiangxiang thought Su Fei might actually have feelings for Ningning. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have bought him so many expensive things. But he didn’t want to give up. This could have been his chance to escape from his current family situation.
“This package was delivered to my house because you weren’t home. My sisters ate it. If you want trouble, go find them. Leave me alone,” Ning Xiangxiang said gloomily, although expressing his love for Su Fei was impossible. He only wanted to provoke a fight.
Ningning looked at the dejected Ning Xiangxiang and took the two cans of milk powder. “Forget it, consider it a gift for you,” he said, taking the milk powder and closing the door, leaving Ning Xiangxiang outside.
“Do you have anything else to say?” Ningning was in a great mood today and didn’t want to argue with Ning Xiangxiang.
Ning Xiangxiang bit his lip, determined. “I want to talk to Su Fei alone, to find out what she really thinks. Don’t you want to know what Su Fei thinks?”
Ningning looked at Ning Xiangxiang coldly, making him shiver. He remembered that this Ningning wasn’t easy to deal with. Not only did he pick fights with men, but he also fought with women.
Ningning nodded slowly and calmly said, “Fine, I’ll let you give up completely. Don’t come back to bother us anymore.” Then he went to the kitchen to find Su Fei.
In the kitchen, Su Fei was warming herself by the fire, feeling drowsy. Ningning gently woke her up and said, “Your old friend wants to talk to you. Remember to come home for dinner.”
Still groggy, Su Fei followed Ningning to the living room. Seeing Ning Xiangxiang standing there, she felt numb with fear, unable to move or speak.
Seeing Su Fei’s timid appearance, Ning Xiangxiang knew there was no hope. This person had been completely tamed by Ningning. Trying to stir up trouble, he shyly said, “Do you remember what you promised me back then? That you would only love me and marry only me in this lifetime.” Then he closed the door abruptly.
Su Fei felt like she wanted to disappear and kill the original owner of this body. She could feel Ningning’s anger behind her, realizing that Ning Xiangxiang was trying to kill her.
“All young and ignorant. I don’t even remember that anymore. I’m only going to marry Ningning. The heavens and the earth bear witness. Please understand,” Su Fei shouted, determined, and went back inside, not wanting to sleep alone in the cold bed.
Ning Xiangxiang understood that his chances were slim and gave up completely. With a look of disdain, he said to Su Fei, “I’m giving this woman to you. I wish you two eternal happiness and a harmonious marriage.”
Ningning watched as Ning Xiangxiang regained his former self as the flower of Dadong Commune, he hope Ning Xiangxiang would find what he was looking for.
Looking at Su Fei in the house, who seemed unsure of herself, Ningning thought about seizing the her royalties.
“Do you realize your mistake?” he asked.
“Huh? Yes, I do.”
“What are you going to do? To prevent you from being unfaithful, I’ll hold the financial power in the family, so…”
“Everything’s yours, everything’s yours!”
And so, the matter was satisfactorily resolved, and they no longer argued about what belonged to whom. But some people still didn’t know how to mind their own business!
