Chapter 22: 22) Binding Vow
NARRATOR'S POV
-Before arriving to the valkyrie site-
"So you mean to tell me to wait here while everyone gets slaughtered by that valkyrie? If I have the power to slow it down, or even better, STOP the valkyrie, shouldn't I?!"
Furō was in a fury while listening to the mission briefing from Emilia.
"I need you to understand that they are not being slaughtered Furō. I can't disclose why, as a pact I have with the higher ups of Jujutsu society, but I need you to trust me on this one."
"Well that just sounds sketch but anyways, what do you need me to do?" Furōkawa was still a bit irritated with his position but he would have to put his faith in Emilia for now.
"I predict that the Valkyrie, named Brynn, will be breaking out and destroying the cathedral in a few hours. The goal is to intercept it, and surprise her with a destructive attack. You have the highest damage yield at the best distance, so it would be optimal for you to go out alone. It reduces the chances of a surprise attack failing."
"…"
"Is there a flaw in my logic, Furō?" Emilia asked.
"You just want to see my new attack, don't you?" Furōkawa grinned widely.
Emilia's jaw dropped and her eyes widened while her pale face turned rosey and flushed. "What an absurd accusation! Have you no shame?!"
Furōkawa chuckled while walking away, shrugging.
——————————
The valley was vast and desolate, but on top of the only plateau in the environment, stood the cathedral which housed the second valkyrie. Furō stood on the ground level, waiting for it to reveal itself.
"There you go.."
Furō felt a spike in cursed energy in the cathedral and smiled with determination. He simultaneously spawned a spear in his hand to lean on. Once it broke through the roof of the cathedral and remained still in the sky for a few seconds, Furō picked up the dripping spear and charged his arm for a nasty throw.
'Spirit Spring'
'Lost Alioth'
'Shinsu'
Putrefaction!!"
Furō launched his spear all the way through the air after getting a running start, flinging it directly into the valkyrie's back.

"What separates the average sorcerer from veterans in this field, is being able to omit hand signs, incantations, and other ritualistic behaviors from techniques. But, applying said behaviors also improves the output of techniques, bringing its total output to max."
"Is that why saying the name of an attack makes it a bit more effective? I always thought that it was anime B.S. to do that."
Gojo chuckled while walking around the sparring room.
"Yes, precisely. It's somewhat of a pact, so I urge you to come up with names based within your technique."
——————————
After this information was revealed to Furōkawa from Gojo and Emilia's training, he developed a remote detonation spear attack that was enhanced by including incantations.
When Furōkawa first awakened his cursed technique, an explosion was created by a large leak of phosphorus, which reacted with oxygen in the air. The sudden oxidation makes the cursed energy catch fire and explode. Harnessing the rate at which the spear releases phosphorus is the key to creating an explosive device.
A natural pact that trades the haste of a technique and massive CE consumption with extraordinary output.
——————————
At the scene of the valley, the valkyrie soared down towards Furō, who stood stoically with Onamazu in his right hand. On the way down, it fired bladed feathers from its wings directly at him which he easily deflected.
"Come on, I know you can do better than that!" Furō taunted the already frustrated curse.
It came charging with a sudden axe that formed with a similar light of when the first valkyrie created its spear.
"You will pay dearly with your life, human!"
The valkyrie raised the axe far above its head and slammed it down at Furōkawa, which he dodged and countered by striking the valkyrie in the face with the bottom of Onamazu's handle. Immediately after, he followed up with a flurry of acid-infused strikes, searing the armor of the valkyrie.
After peering inside of the armor, it occured to Furōkawa that there was literally nothing inside but what felt like an abundance of CE.
"Interesting.." Furō said as he grabbed the valkyrie's ankle and launched her away.
"So, what are you anyways? I tried asking the other valkyrie but she didn't like speaking, but obviously you're much talkative."
"My sister… she was powerful, and callous. To be slain by a mere human of your caliber is, unimaginable. I will eradicate your meaningless existence to honor Geidriful and the rest of my sisters. FOR VALHALLA!"
"Well, that wasn't a very nice thing to say!"
The valkyrie once again propelled herself towards Furōkawa, swinging the axe viciously. Some attacks were dodged and others were blocked, but an undeniable fact was the valkyrie could not land a single blow to Furōkawa's flesh. After the valkyrie missed yet another attack, causing the axe to be trapped in the ground, Furōkawa did a jumping spin kick in the back of its head.
"EEUURAAGGH!!!"
The valkyrie sent a powerful shockwave making Furōkawa slide backwards but he spawned a spear to anchor himself in the ground.
"That's new! You're fighting really hard!"
In his mind, Furōkawa thought to himself, 'These spirits are subject to emotion therefore, I should be able to get in their heads. I doubt she is aware that I'm genuinely putting in effort, but I have to keep the mask up.'
Another axe was conjured by the valkyrie aswell at growing in length.
"That's not good.."
The valkyrie got ready to strike down another attack, but the distance was uncanny.
"There's no way it reaches from here, right?!"
Suddenly, a large gust of wind blew in Furōkawa's direction. It was too fast to dodge so he simply put up Onamazu. His eyes widened as the gust made impact with his oar. It sent him flying across the valley, tumbling over the ground. The valkyrie quickly jumped into the air and drove both of the axes into the ground where Furōkawa laid, shattering it into an enormous crater. With quick thinking and a little bit of luck, he was able to evade the attack, followed by a nasty shot in the face with Onamazu's paddle.
"You are the most formidable pest I will have squashed in four centuries. You should be honored.."
"Maybe I do prefer a less talkative valkyrie, like your sister."
The valkyrie angrily swung one of its axes at Furōkawa, but not to much avail as he directed the attack away and spawned a smaller poled spear to stab the valkyrie in the gut. It tried to pull out the spear like the first time, but the searing pain made it excruciatingly difficult to do so. Furōkawa then cocked his fist all the way back, and punched it so hard that it went flying almost 20 meters away.
While the valkyrie was stunned from the blow, Furōkawa interlocked his fingers, crossed his thumbs, and pointed his index fingers to make the Ksepana hand seal and began chanting. In a futile attempt, the valkyrie tried sprinting towards Furōkawa.
"Ultra-super-mega-destructive scallop BOMB!"
The valkyrie stopped in its tracks as air gathered around it and in an instant, a giant green explosion shook the heavens and earth.
"That should finish you."
Furōkawa walked towards the the valkyrie as the dust settled. The valkyrie, who had a gaping whole in the torso, missing both legs, and an entire arm, crawled out towards Furō.
"You…YOU!!"
"What's up?" Furōkawa said with a polite smile while slamming a spear into the valkyrie's hand.
It wailed in pain, and Furōkawa bent his knees to get down to her level.
"At this rate, you might probably die even if I don't kill you myself. Now I'm going to offer you a proposition which will determine your fate. Either you can accept this pact that you become my shikigami in exchange for your life, OR I can end it. Your choice."
"I would NEVER join the likes of you and betray my sisters! Take your pacts elsewhere, because you will not find them with me! Take my life, so I can rejoice with my sister in Valha–"
Furōkawa immediately sliced off her head with Onamazu and the valkyrie began fading away into black smoke.
"Talked entirely too much, geez."
However, one piece of the valkyrie remained. A shiny, golden ring was left behind. As Furōkawa picked it up, the ring he already had on resonated with the new ring. The essence was absorbed into the ring slowly, and the golden light produced by his own ring turned green, and quickly stopped.
When he grabbed Onamazu with the ring hand, and the metal reformed itself into the same battle axe that was wielded by the now felled valkyrie.
"Woah… a new weapon.." Furōkawa said in astonishment as he waved the big axe around.
"I wonder if this is what Gojo meant by Onamazu taking the propeties of cursed energy and changing along with it,"
But then he started touching around in his pockets and realized another thing.
His phone broke. Again.
He dropped to his knees and cried out to any god in the sky for a new phone. Now with no way to contact Emilia, he would have to walk back to the rendezvous point and hope that someone was already there are be there soon.
"DAMN IT."
