Chapter 268: At the Hotel (2)
While Ryu Min entered the lobby restroom, Min Juri stood frozen, organizing the scene she had just witnessed in her head.
‘Why did Christine meet Ryu Min?’
When Ryu Min’s name had appeared in her tracking results, Min Juri decided to follow it to confirm if it was truly the Ryu Min she knew.
That’s how she had ended up at the hotel, where she coincidentally spotted a woman in the lobby who looked just like Christine.
She then saw Christine meet with Ryu Min, go to a café, drink coffee, and have a conversation.
‘What kind of conversation could they be having?’
Worried that she might get caught if she moved closer, Min Juri hadn’t dared to eavesdrop. She had kept her distance, watching from over 30 meters away.
But seeing Christine’s expressions—from a worried frown to sudden, radiant smiles—left Min Juri feeling unsettled.
‘What are they talking about that’s making her smile like that…?’
It was obvious to any third party that she was feeling jealous, but Min Juri herself hadn’t realized it yet.‘Did Ryu Min call her here? He said he’d let me know first once he found a place to stay, so why Christine…?’
Was this what people meant by a love triangle?
Her thoughts became a tangled mess.
She felt stressed for the first time in a while, but she knew there was no point in trying to figure it out on her own.
The clearest solution was to ask Ryu Min directly.
‘I’ll ask him when he comes out.’
And so, she fixed her gaze on the restroom entrance, waiting for him to reappear.
But no matter how long she waited, he didn’t come out.
‘What’s going on? Is he… taking care of a big problem in there?’
“Min Juri.”
“Whaaa!”
A voice suddenly called out from behind, causing Min Juri to jump and spin around.
It was Ryu Min.
Her heart, which had just recently been revived, nearly stopped again.
“You scared me!”
“So, you’re the one who was following me?”
“W-wait, you knew?”
Ryu Min smirked at the flustered Min Juri.
‘Of course I knew. My presence detection range is 60 meters.’
But he didn’t bother explaining that part.
“What are you doing here?”
“Uh, um, well…”
“You tracked me using the tracking feature too, didn’t you?”
“You too…? What do you mean by that?”
“Christine. She also tracked me down here using the feature.”
“Oh…”
So, Ryu Min hadn’t called Christine after all.
Just like Min Juri, Christine had used the tracking feature to find him on her own.
That cleared up a small misunderstanding.
“I was planning to send you my address anyway, but since you’re here, we might as well talk now.”
“Okay.”
The two of them went to sit at a café.
It was the same café where Ryu Min had just met Christine.
“Order something to drink. It’s on me.”
“What about you?”
“I already had something earlier, as you probably saw.”
“S-sorry. I didn’t mean to spy or anything…”
“It’s fine.”
Nodding as if he understood, Ryu Min waited until Min Juri’s coffee arrived before diving into the topic.
“What did you want to talk about?”
“Huh?”
“On the phone, you said you had something to talk about. What is it?”
Min Juri hesitated for a moment, taking a deep breath before finally speaking.
“You… lied to me, didn’t you?”
“What are you talking about?”
“Your nickname. Is it really Lostyak?”
“…”
“After the round ended when the Black Scythe called out names, I made sure to pay attention. But I didn’t hear that nickname. What’s going on?”
“Well, that’s…”
“And that’s not the only strange thing.”
It seemed Min Juri had decided to address all her suspicions at once.
“When I use the tracking feature, even though I know your name and face, it says there’s no match.”
“…”
“I’m not talking about the tracking feature from the Otherworld. I mean the one in reality. I’ve never seen your Otherworld appearance, so that’s whatever, but the fact that you can’t even be tracked in real life—doesn’t that seem odd?”
“…”
“And there’s more. On the deserted island, no matter how hard I looked, I couldn’t find you. Even though the rest of us weren’t customized avatars but our real selves.”
The numbers matched, but Ryu Min himself couldn’t be seen?
It was enough to seem suspicious.
“Were you even on the island in the first place?”
Ryu Min stayed silent.
Min Juri seemed to be framing her questions as though she already had the answers.
‘She’s right, of course.’
But they were answers he couldn’t reveal.
They were secrets he had to keep.
To explain them would mean revealing his true identity.
And yet, a particular conversation suddenly crossed Ryu Min’s mind.
-‘Would it really be so bad to reveal your identity? Not everyone would be as shocked as you think.’
It was his brother’s voice, echoing in his memory.
Why was he remembering that now?
‘Maybe… she’ll understand.’
A sudden impulse made Ryu Min curious to test it out.
Before he knew it, he opened his mouth.
“I’m the Black Scythe.”
