Chapter 81: A Big Fish Arrives
As the night gradually brightened, Ye Tian, after resting for half the night, washed up and went outside the villa. He gazed at the blue sky and stretched his body to shake off the laziness.
Being a person of extremely regular habits, even if he hadn't slept the first half of the night, his biological clock would still wake him up on time.
Looking around, Ye Tian noticed that the villa had more guards than usual.
Puzzled, he asked, "What's going on?"
Butler Fu Bo approached and respectfully bowed, saying, "This is all arranged by Zhou Long. You've brought the heir of the Angel Clan back home with you, young master, so you are in great danger now."
"Wrong choice of words," Ye Tian chuckled, waving his hand dismissively. "What do you mean by 'brought her back'? Zhou Long and the others may not know, but Butler Fu Bo, don't you understand?"
After all, Butler Fu Bo himself had opened the door for Ye Tian last night and was well aware of what had happened with Qian Renxue.
Unexpectedly, Butler Fu Bo whispered, "Young master, if you seize this opportunity, you could rise to the top in one step."
"Heh," Ye Tian rolled his eyes. So, that's what he meant.
Ye Tian understood that although Zhou Long and Butler Fu Bo had been under his command for several years, deep down, they still had the mindset of the "Douluo Continent." They believed that with Ye Tian's abilities, even if he didn't establish a kingdom and unify the world, he should at least found a powerful sect like the Clear Sky Sect.
Indeed, vying for power and carving out a throne through bloodshed is thrilling and enticing.
If Ye Tian had the desire, he could rally the entire eastern coast to his cause with a single call. Amassing resources and warriors would not be difficult. With a bit of fame and some skilled fighters recruited, it wouldn't be hard to make an impact across the continent.
But then what? Compete with the two great empires for territory? Fight against the Spirit Hall for power?
If that were the case, he might as well set up a barbecue on the farm and roast a few more chickens for a meal.
The constant scheming and power struggles would drive Ye Tian mad. He was too used to a comfortable life to adapt to such conflict.
Ye Tian waved his hand. "Butler Fu Bo, stop saying things like that. Not only do I have no such intentions, but if this rumor spreads, it will only cause more misunderstandings with Qian Renxue."
In the original story, Qian Renxue was a very strong-willed girl. If she felt that her reputation was at risk, Ye Tian would soon be facing assassination attempts.
Butler Fu Bo quickly clarified, "Young master, I only say such things to you. I would never mention it to anyone else."
He simply wanted Ye Tian to consider a different path, without any other intentions. Once Ye Tian made a decision, Butler Fu Bo would abide by it without question or meddling.
As they talked, the sound of horse hooves echoed in the distance.
"Good morning, young master," said Chen Jian as he dismounted from his horse and walked toward Ye Tian.
Ye Tian greeted him with a smile, "What brings you to the villa?"
With a wide grin, Chen Jian approached and whispered, "A big fish has arrived in East Sea City."
"A big fish?" Ye Tian raised an eyebrow, intrigued. "What kind of big fish?"
Chen Jian directly answered, "Young master, have you ever heard of the Lightning Chamber of Commerce?"
"It's probably a merchant guild from the Star Luo Empire," Ye Tian said thoughtfully.
While he hadn't been to the Star Luo Empire, he knew a bit about it. The Lightning Chamber of Commerce was affiliated with the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan, which had great influence due to its support of the Star Luo royal family.
As a result, the Lightning Chamber of Commerce enjoyed significant privileges within the Star Luo Empire and operated on a massive scale. You could find them in nearly every major city of the Star Luo Empire.
"Have they come to do business in East Sea City?" Ye Tian inquired.
"Not exactly. They've noticed the disaster here and want to corner the market on grain prices to make a fortune," Chen Jian explained.
"Oh? Local merchants were already trying to profit off the disaster victims. I didn't expect even the Lightning Chamber of Commerce to get involved," Ye Tian's interest was piqued.
This was like walking into a trap, and since they were here, Ye Tian wasn't about to let the opportunity slip by.
Chen Jian added, "According to our investigation, this Lightning Chamber of Commerce has quite a background. So I wanted to ask, should we catch this big fish?"
Ye Tian chuckled and instructed, "Since the Lightning Chamber of Commerce is so eager to make money, we should certainly entertain them. Let's show them our hospitality."
Chen Jian understood Ye Tian's meaning immediately and nodded solemnly.
"How many people did they bring? How much capital are they working with?" Ye Tian asked.
"They brought about seven million gold soul coins, give or take," Chen Jian estimated, based on the intel.
"One thing is clear, though. They intend to manipulate grain prices."
Chen Jian provided more details, laughing as he said, "Young master, you had people spread rumors about the severity of the disaster. As soon as the Lightning Chamber arrived, they hired our people to keep the rumors going. In the last few days, grain prices have continued to rise."
Ye Tian smirked. "Seven million gold soul coins is quite a sum. This isn't just about affecting East Sea City's grain prices. Even the neighboring provinces could be impacted."
As one of the instigators, Ye Tian understood all too well the power of rumors. Once the news of a grain shortage spread, small merchants and farmers would rush to hoard it, just like gullible investors in a stock market.
After a moment of thought, Ye Tian said, "I don't think our current grain reserves are enough."
If the Lightning Chamber planned to corner the market, they would certainly be buying up all available grain. Ye Tian had already sold his reserves to local merchants days ago, leaving his warehouses empty.
He instructed Chen Jian, "You should contact the Li family. After defeating the pirates, they acquired a large fleet, so their capacity for sea transport has greatly improved. Have them find a way to transport more grain from other ports."
With Qian Renxue injured, the Heaven Dou Empire would likely focus its attention on the Qian family. As for the Black Spear Douluo incident, simply informing Qian Renxue that she had been saved by him should resolve everything.
Chen Jian then suggested with a smile, "Young master, the Lightning Chamber of Commerce will likely rent out grain warehouses around East Sea City. Should we rent ours to them?"
"That works," Ye Tian smiled.
Once the Lightning Chamber spent all its money and stocked the warehouses full of grain, they would soon find they couldn't sell it. Desperate to recoup their losses, they would have no choice but to sell at a loss, and Chen Jian would be ready to take over, without even needing to transport the grain.
