- Miss Lydia, it's time to get up. - came the slightly creaky voice of the house elf.
- Millie, are you kidding me? It's Saturday morning. - The redhead moaned, pulling the blanket up higher.
- Mistress Natalie asked me to wake you up immediately or you'll miss breakfast. - Milly insisted.
- Tell Mistress Natalie that I am prepared to suffer such a great loss. - Lydia waved her hand and turned her back to the wall.
The housekeeper disappeared into thin air with a loud pop, causing Lydia to open her eyes with a groan. Why didn't other pureblood families have this kind of madness? Like the Stilinski's or the Argent's. Yeah, Allison does have a pretty strict bedtime routine, but she eats when she wants to, not on a schedule. Stiles probably doesn't have any rules at all. You do what you want, you do what you want. With a heavy sigh and a glance at Sophie, who was sniffling peacefully, she got up and headed for the bathroom. Ten minutes later, a dressed and groomed Lydia Martin came down to the dining room.
- You're five minutes late. - Natalie said, pouring her daughter's tea.
- Did someone die in the meantime? - Lydia sneered, sitting down in her seat.
- Lydia, what are you talking about? - The elder Martin exclaimed indignantly, but her indignation was completely ignored. - We are going to the Hales' tonight. - the woman informed her daughter.
- Why on earth would you do that? - The girl asked in amazement.
- They're having a reception. There'll be the Reikens, the Whittmores, the Argentines, the Stilinskis, the McCalls. - said the woman. When she heard the last three names, Lydia smiled faintly. - You'll pack now, because we'll be home late. Pack everything at once, you won't have time to do it in the morning. - said the woman. Tomorrow the Hogwarts Express would take Lydia to Hogwarts, which she was just so happy about. Yes, something had clearly gone wrong.
- Millie, bring some jam, please. - said the girl, now looking at the housekeeper with a smile. - And I'm sorry about this morning. You know I'm not myself in the morning.
- Not at all, Mistress. - Millie smiled embarrassedly and with the same loud clap she left the living room, only to reappear a moment later with a glass jar in her hands.
- Thank you. - The girl nodded, and the elf bowed respectfully and hurried away.
- You talk to the housekeeper better than to your mother. - Natalie stretched out unhappily. Lydia remained silent again. - Lydia, how many times? - The woman exclaimed, raising her voice.
- What's wrong? - The girl asked calmly with an arched eyebrow as she continued to eat her breakfast serenely.
- You haven't been yourself since you arrived. You refuse to get up, sarcastic, and now you're late for breakfast. - the woman replied to her daughter, arching her eyebrows.
- Oh, you know, Hogwarts had no effect on that, just innate qualities. Genetics is a powerful thing, you know. And, moreover, you're the one who started it now. - replied Lydia, resuming her breakfast.
- Lydia, stop it!' the woman exclaimed. - You weren't like that!
- What was I like? - Lydia asked, rising abruptly.
- Obedient! - replied Natalie, still sitting in her seat.
- Well, I'm sorry, that time has passed. - said the girl and walked briskly upstairs.
- Lydia Natalie Martin, go back to your seat! - exclaimed the woman, but she was answered only by the slamming of the door.

- Madam, your mother told me to tell you that you are going to the reception in half an hour. - said Milly, quietly peeking into the girl's room.
- Thank you, Milly. - Lydia nodded.
Turning her head, the girl looked at the collodograph hanging above the bed. It showed seven Gryffindors, all smiling and looking to the left. On the bedside table was a starry sky projector and a model of the solar system. Smiling, Lydia went to the wardrobe. Twenty minutes later, the girl meticulously examined herself in the mirror. She was wearing an azure blue dress that Allison had given her, black shoes with a small heel, and in her beautifully styled hair was a magic hairpin that glowed a neutral pale grey. As an accessory, the girl chose a gold drop pendant and added a black leather belt.
- She's full of presents. - Lydia smiled, going to the table and taking from it a black bag, which contained the album and enchanted pencils given by the boys. - How do you like me, Sophie? - The girl asked, spinning round in front of the crypter. Sophie, squeaking happily, jumped up and down several times. - Oh, honey, thank you. - Martin laughed.
- Lydia, come down, it's time. - came the voice of her mother from downstairs. After that incident at breakfast, Lydia went and apologised. And it was not because of education or possible punishment, but because of a simple sense of guilt.
- Yes, mum, I'm coming. - replied the girl and left the room.
- In five minutes the portal will start working. So don't go anywhere. - Natalie said, looking at her daughter's outfit. - Why do you need a bag? - The woman asked.
- It'll come in handy. - Lydia replied with a shrug. Natalie looked beautiful as usual. A dark blue knee-length dress, black high-heeled shoes and a bag that matched them exactly. Her dark red hair was beautifully styled. Looking at her mother, the girl rolled her eyes. The perfection surrounding her mother had already really bored Lydia.
- Get ready. - said the woman and went to a beautiful mirror with painting. Silently holding out her daughter's hand, Natalie took hold of the mirror's handle. Lydia barely had time to grasp the body part her mother had extended. A moment later, the Martin family found themselves in a spacious hallway with a crystal chandelier and marble floor.
- Natalie. - said Peter, who was already greeting the guests, and smiled respectfully at the woman, shifting his gaze to the girl. - Lydia. - The man nodded.
- Hello, Peter. - Natalie nodded and stared at her daughter expectantly. Lydia, on the other hand, didn't know what to say to her. 'Hello, sir?' 'Hello, Professor Hale?' The fact that one of the Hales was now not only a common acquaintance, but also a teacher, clearly made life a little more difficult for the younger Martin.
- Hello, Peter. - Lydia said, nodding slightly.
Hale, smiling lightly, led them into the living room. As soon as she entered, she noticed Scott and Stiles standing next to her and smiled happily. She missed them, she couldn't believe it! She walked slowly towards her friends, who were discussing something heatedly.
- I'm telling you, there was a doxy! - wailed Stilinski, waving his arms as he always did.
- Stiles, Merlin, don't be ridiculous. - Scott rolled his eyes, waving his friend away. Lydia watched their bickering with a smile until Stiles finally turned his attention to her.
- Lyds! - Stiles exclaimed, perhaps a little too loudly, as everyone in the living room turned to look at them. Martin rolled her eyes and couldn't hold back a smile.
- Hello. - said the girl quietly.
- Hi!' said Scott, also smiling broadly.
- I'm so glad you're here. - Lydia sighed with relief. - I thought I wouldn't survive it if I went alone.
- Is it that bad? - Stiles asked, arching an eyebrow, and Lydia began to tell the boys the events of the day, but she didn't have time to finish, because five minutes later the Argents entered the living room. As soon as she saw her friend, Martin felt something warm inside. Not paying attention to the guests, the girl quickly ran up to Allison and hugged her tightly.
- I missed you. - whispered the girl and felt a hug in return.
- Hello, Lydia. - Martin heard and reluctantly pulled away from her friend. The words belonged to Chris and the girl raised her eyebrows in surprise.
- Hello, Mr Argent. - Lydia bowed slightly to the man. The man smiled warmly.
- 'Excuse me, girls, but I should probably go where there's the most pandemonium and start talking about boring topics. We'll talk to you later. Nice to meet you, Lydia. - Chris said, winking at Martin, and walked in the direction he'd pointed earlier.
- You have a great dad. - said Lydia.
- I know. You look great, by the way. - Argent smiled and walked towards Scott and Stiles, who were waving as hard as they could.
Twenty minutes later, the boys had cheered up their friends so much that they were laughing at the top of their lungs, paying absolutely no attention to the guests who were squinting at them. Stiles' story was interrupted by the sudden appearance of Erica, Jackson, Ethan, and Aidan:
- Are Gryffindors so ill-mannered that they can't even behave normally at such receptions? - it was Whittemore.
- And there you are. - Allison rolled her eyes.
- We're always here for you, darling. - Reyes said, grinning. Theo, standing behind her, rolled his eyes.
- Oh, we've all noticed that you're a real pestilence, and you don't have to remind us of that. - Lydia answered her.
- And we have noticed that you are perfectly fulfilling the role of dumb-headed narcissistic idiots, what's next? - Ethan asked in her tone.
- What's next is that it's time for you to get the hell out of here. - Allison said, squinting angrily.
- Are you learning to be sarcastic, sweetheart? You're not very good at it yet. - Erica said, smiling sweetly.
- But I'm good at it. - Taking a small step forward, Stiles said.
- What's going on here? - Derek asked dryly, coming in at an unbelievable time.
- Chatting. - Whittemore smiled dazzlingly and shoved his shoulder as he passed Stiles.
- I'm going to kill him someday. - Stiles hissed, glaring at the Slytherin's back.
- They're just idiots, don't mind them. - Lydia said, touching her friend's shoulder lightly.
- Yeah, that's a good point about idiots. - Scott hissed.
- Boys, forget it. Let's go sit down somewhere, because we can't even have a proper conversation. - Allison said, taking McCall by the arm and leading him to the couch in the corner of the room.
- Why did you say that? - Allison asked when Lydia had finally told the story of the morning.
- I can't say. - The girl jerked her shoulder and immediately met three sceptical looks. - Okay, I can tell you. Did I tell you what happened to my father? - Martin asked, leaning forward slightly. The boys shook their heads in response. - He disappeared. That's what we thought at first. And then it turned out that he'd gone to another woman, even though it's forbidden in magical society. I was madly in love with him. And he even came to see me, gave me birthday presents, visited me. All because he'd never been squeamish about Muggles. Never at all. He told me their stories, we watched their films and played their games. And my mum was always annoyed by it, and she was always telling my dad that purebloods shouldn't behave like that. - The girl covered her eyes and sighed heavily. - And then we were told he was dead. I was about seven at the time. After his funeral, my mum kept swearing that she would always love him, that she would never forget him. - the girl opened her eyes. - And just yesterday she brought some Mr Varnair into the house, laughing and laughing and laughing. It made me angry, and I went to see them, and she just kicked me out of the door. When I went to her in the evening, after he'd left, and told her I hoped he wouldn't be here again, she threw me out again. - The redhead concluded, sighing heavily again.
- Merlin. - Allison said quietly and touched her friend's arm lightly. - Are you just like this because of your father? - The girl asked and Lydia nodded in response. - Do you miss him? - Argent asked suddenly.
- Yes. But I believe he's there for me and he loves me. And she didn't. Also, it almost didn't hurt now. It's been too long.
- I miss my dad, too. - Scott said suddenly, and all eyes turned to him. Stiles put his hand on his friend's shoulder and squeezed it weakly.
- I miss my mum. - Allison said, smiling slightly.
- Do you talk to them? - Scott asked.
- All the time. - Lydia nodded and Allison followed suit. Stiles looked sadly at the three friends.
- Boys, we have to go. - Claudia said suddenly, stepping smoothly out of the crowd of guests. John walked beside her, smiling and holding his wife by the waist. Stiles glanced guiltily at his friends, but they only nodded their heads.
- Hello, Mrs and Mr Stilinski. - Lydia said immediately, smiling welcomingly.
- You're Lydia, I presume? - Claudia asked, smiling warmly. The redhead nodded. - And you must be Allison. - The woman turned to Argent and again she answered with a nod. - Nice to meet you, girls. I've heard a lot about you. - said the woman and Stiles blushed. - And also of one Malia. It's a shame she's not here today. She's a real chatterbox.
- Mum, enough already. - the boy begged, looking at his mother with huge eyes. - You said we had to go. Allison, Lydia, I'll see you tomorrow. Scott, let's go. - said Stiles and hurried off.
- Ell, Lyds, see you tomorrow. Have a good time. - Scott said and winked at his friends and went off to find Stilinski.
- They're funny, aren't they? - Allison said thoughtfully, looking at McCall's receding silhouette.
- We? - Lydia asked, smiling slyly.
- Who else would it be? - Lydia asked, raising an eyebrow. The friends looked at each other and laughed.
- Allison, do you want me to tell you a secret? - Lydia asked ingratiatingly, leaning slightly towards her friend.
- Yeah. - nodded cheerfully.
- I love you. All of you. But you especially. - she said, and smiled warmly. Allison looked at her best friend with a smile and leaned back against the back of the couch.
- Listen, Leeds, about your father. - the girl began cautiously.
- Yeah?' Martin turned to her friend.
- You really don't hurt anymore, or is that for the boys? - Allison asked, watching carefully for reactions.
- I am. - nodded the redhead. - It's been a long time, and I was a little girl back then. I just feel bad for him. I mean, he left his family because of his mum. She probably didn't like him or something, but he wouldn't have done it on his own,' she said with a shrug.
- Lydia, we have to go. - came the slightly cold voice of Natalie Martin.
- Right now? - The girl asked unhappily. Yes, she was really acting differently lately.
- Do you have any other options? - With an arched eyebrow, the elder Martin asked. Under her steely gaze, Lydia didn't even flinch, although she felt cold inside.
- Can I have another minute? - Lydia asked suddenly, even to herself. Allison looked at her friend in shock.
- Lydia, not another minute. I think I made myself clear. - The woman said, starting to get angry. Lydia, after giving her mother a displeased look, turned to her friend, looking her in the eye with complete calmness.
- See you tomorrow, darling. - said the redhead and hugged her friend tightly.
- Leeds, don't be silly. You'll tell me tomorrow. - Allison whispered in her ear and released her friend from the hug. Natalie glared at her daughter and strode proudly down the hall. Catching Lydia's gaze, Argent smiled encouragingly at her. Proudly straightening her back, Lydia followed her mother with her head slightly upwards.
- Allison, don't you want to go home? - Chris asked, suddenly sitting down next to his daughter.
- I do now. - nodded.
- Does Lydia have some problems with her mum? - The man asked, hugging his daughter.
- A little misunderstanding. - The girl jerked her shoulder slightly. Chris looked at his daughter with a smile and led her towards the exit of this reception.
