Tactical Annihilation: Commanding The Apocalypse

Chapter 17: Building Up For The Invasion

Another two weeks passed by with not much more than a few more inquisitive scouting parties coming by only to be captured by our defensive nets and winding themselves as our war slave captives, the information gathered from interrogating these scouts still revealed the same information as before, the Fortress City of Trent still had a bounty placed to gather information on Jake and his team, most were still centered around this area, however there was still quite a few teams coming in from the outposts themselves looking to strike it rich by turning in any scrap of information against the base to the city in return for a reward.

Only to find themselves having to leave their families behind without support, but from this Jake had a better idea of the overall situation of the Outposts.

Just as he'd thought and had learned before the outposts were created to get resources for the Fortress Cities, and they were made by the 'useless' people cast out from within the cities themselves, as for the forces captured from the city itself, they were all to quick to declare those living in the outposts as being less than human just slaves meant to serve their betters before dying out like the weak should.

Compared to the regular slaves the city born ones got the hardest jobs, the worst shifts.

This was Jakes decree and it would be upheld until they had a change of heart and could rejoin humanity alongside their brothers and sisters from the outposts.

While at the same time, Jake was already making plans to retaliate, for two many weeks now had the Fortress City tried to spy on him, rather than just approach and attempt to communicate or negotiate.

This was in a few words a genuine slap to the face.

With his background unknown and the power to easily deal with a 3rd rank, was not enough to make Trent think anything at all of him.

So instead it was up to Jake to make them aware of how pissed of they had made him with their actions, and to increase the abilities of his base, the soldiers were great but they were just that soldiers.

While he did not want to have an empire of slaves at least that's how they would be until they had earned the right to use the term human to describe themselves as anything less than slaves to their own ambitions.

Thanks to the credits gathered from the mine, Jakes forces had increased considerably recently, the tank corps were formed of close to 100 tanks per style, while the soldier's had crossed into five digits.

And while his luck was not exactly spectacular when pulling from the Gacha he did have some mild levels of success, first off he gained himself an assistant as well as a companion.

With a SR pull he managed to summon to his side one of the commanders assistants who relayed tactical information and setup the mission debreifings.

This particular Assistant was Lt. Zofia, she was one of the few females characters across the games and honestly Jakes favorite from the 2nd game.

When she was summoned she was just like the rest of the soldiers completely loyal towards the commander however this caused an internal crisis within him.

At this present moment in time the angels and demons on his shoulders were having a fierce debate however in the end I managed to only just, and I mean this so badly to curb my own desires but it seems it was all for naught.

The Lt. saw me acting like a teenager who saw their first crush and well to put it simply, well I got shut down before I even had a shot.

But then through no fault of my own, I happened to witness the Lt. in a corner of the base, berating herself, for pushing me away.

However she then went on talking to herself indicating that if I had asked her out or worse she wouldn't be able to refuse me, so her only option was to cool my jets until she could be the one to approach me.

Well lets just pretend we didn't just see that, but well since that has been burned into my brain as the gallant and intelligent commander I am I suppose, just suppose that I can be patient and let my beautiful little Lt. build up the courage to confess to her Commander, let's just hope she doesn't need to fight off Tanya, or Yuriko.

However having been able to summon a support staff officer was honestly one of the greatest joys, not just because it was the Lt. but also because at the moment the base was run like a military but we had no properly trained support staff, the soldiers only knew what I knew and I didn't know how a proper military dictatorship should be run.

But immediately Zofia got us on the right path, even the management of the slaves themselves became much more efficient I mean honestly we were just idiots bumbling around in the dark until she came along.

Additionally I managed to get a couple more draws from the 2nd game, mostly just concripts, GI's luckly some Tesla troopers, and the best aside from Zofia was clearly two Rare draws for an Initiate and a Brute from the expansion pack of the 2nd game.

The brute was well like a great big grey hulk with strength to match, mining became much faster with it's emergence and the initiate while not as strong as Yuri or his clones, was still impressive being able to as a rank 1 deal mental damage enough to kill up to a Rank three.

Once the initiate had ranked up perhaps we'd need not fear up to Rank sixes?

Jakes territory had expanded, thanks to the tanks and rangers our ability to police and defend our area had become much larger, however there was something that had changed.

As we scouted more area's the radar had been revealing more and more land by clearing up the blank spaces on the map, but just like in the game there were some specific spots that looked… well not wrong but in the game these generally alluded to treasures, or perhaps better known as loot crates.

Now in the game as im sure you all know these treasures would be generally sums of credits, or ways of improving all units within a specific range to the next level of veterancy, but since this isn't the game but rather real life with a RA system.

Perhaps these treasures would be something different than what they were in the game.

So troops were sent out to re-investigate these areas.

In all the available mapped out space there were only 3 treasures but the radar only could show a limited area until I could levelup the system again, or get a UR and deploy a spy satellite.

For my safety even though I did want to be among the team going out to investigate I was nestled safely into the construction yard in the most defensible position of the entire base, aside from the highest ranks currently assigned to this collection mission, all other forces were on high alert and prepared for anything guarding the walls of the base while outside all defensive fortifications were likewise manned and ready to defend against anything.

For all we know these are not treasures but instead something dangerous, or maybe even weapons or traps meant to go off by the discoverer.

Thanks to the system and the fact that through it we had access to 1950's era technology from his War Factory and the numerous engineers operating within the base, this also meant that radio's were present allowing communication between the soldiers in the field and the forces back at the base.

All the while Jake was in the construction yard inside his office watching the map as the red dots representing his soldiers approached the first of the treasures.

"Alpha and Alpha team checking in."

"Go Ahead Alpha Team."

"We've located the location, as indicated."

"Confirmed, you're only about 100ft from the treasure."

Watching as the dots approached the glowing golden dot.

"Commander, target located. It appears to be just an orb of some sort."

An orb?

However in the next second just when Alpha had bent down to pickup the orb they'd found.

Jake was shock to hear a System alert resounding inside of his head.

[Host has located a Core, the construction of a second MCV can be created.]

All I could do was sit there shocked.

The biggest issue with the system so far aside from not having the freedom to build everything I know exists within the games, but with as far as I had advanced I still couldn't build mobile construction vehicles required to build up new subbases, but now we had managed to aquire one of the components that make it all possible.

With just this one discovery Jake could barely sit still wondering what the other two would bring.

Within just one day would he be able to expand his operations so greatly by having the ability to create 3 new sub-bases all at once?

Sadly his hopes were dashed but only slightly for when his forces arrived at the 2nd and 3rd treasure locations rather than a core they found a small metal box that disappeared the minute that Alpha took it into his hands.

But that's not to say nothing came of it.

[Host has acquired Support Power "Paradrop", and Support Power "Airstrike"]

Rather than letting me expand my base further or giving me a rank up to my command ability, I gained the two support powers of the first game, the first would allow you to air drop a squad of infantry somewhere on the map, while the airstrike was just like it sounded, a Badger bomber would appear to drop a line of incendiary bombs capable of dealing massive damage to structures and completely eliminating infantry in the area, the only drawback was these bombs still needed to be dropped so one could feasibly move the infantry out of their path before they impacted the ground and detonated, but if one was simply culling a massive enemy this would be a great power to hold onto.

With the treasures dealt with, a new team was assembled as a strike force meant to leave the base and go outside of the current radar range looking for a site of our newest base, so that we have somewhere to fallback to, and increase our current credit growth by aquiring new reasource points and further hidden treasures.
