Tactical Annihilation: Commanding The Apocalypse

Chapter 1: The End Of Everything

I awoke to the sounds of air raid sirens going off constantly as the screeching wail echo'd itself through the city streets.

This cursed world of ours...

It's only been a few months since the 2nd American civil war began but things got out of hand quickly once the perceived to be strongest nation on Earth descended into anarchy.

Once their military might was turned internally rather than against the rest of the world as a stopgap policing agent, it didn't take long before the beligeratn nations likewise started acting up.

North Korea, and Russia were just the first to act, then China joined in, and well now with the world having basically gone to war with itself even in a peaceful country such as mine air raid sirens now were going off constantly and with a quick opening of my laptop I found out why...

Seems the end of days had come, they don't know who did it first but does it really matter?

Nukes from all corners of the Earth were airborne and from reports it was highly unlikely that any of us were going to survive, some scientists even theorized that the combined might of these missile detonating would cause the earth to fracture and the planet to be destroyed.

I'm sure some governments and rich billionaires were hunkered down in bunkers that might let them escape the coming nuclear firestorm and subsequent radiation but for the rest of us... well it's just going to be the end followed by hell on earth as the planet is either torn apart or it's surface is poisoned until we all slowly die due to the radiation levels or starvation as nothing will grow any longer.

Having somehow come to terms with what was going on I ignored the sirens and the chaos going on in the streets below as people ran for their lives, or began looting for supplies.

Luckily we still had power so for my last few moments I decided to play a game, I grew up playing the series and loved it, recently the game was remade as a service to the fans who made up the series's cult following and just like any game that has been remastered it made the game just that much better with crisp and clean HD graphics.

Just as the menu opened where I could select which of the Three games to load there was a white light that blinded me, shortly thereafter it was like I was hit by a car as I was pushed forward.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Ugh...

I'm not sure how much time passed since I passed out but I groggily groaned as I lay upon the floor, all around me I could see bits and pieces of my furniture which had been torn asunder, but well there was something else wrong with the room.

It was coated in a thick layer of dust... perhaps ash?

As I rubbed my eyes to get the sleep out of them, I could better see the room.

The walls were intact but they looked like they hadn't been cared for in quick some time as the paint all over was chipped and peeling exposing the drywall and brick beneath in places, the furniture that once lined the walls was now in pieces and the clothes or bedding was missing.

So the end came, damn well not surprising I mean hundreds if not thousands of nuclear missiles were flying, luckily it seems I managed to survive if you can call living into the apocalypse surviving at all.

But another scan around the room showed that even my laptop was missing.

Damn and here I was hoping I could at least play the game till the battery died on me.

Seems I used up all my luck just surviving that blast.

Bang Bang

Well it seems others survived as well.

As I could hear in the distance some gunshots sounding off.

But seriously we survived a nuclear explosion and your first reaction is to begin killing survivors?

Getting up to my feet I made my way to the window.

However what I saw there shocked me.

Was this really a city hit with a nuke?

The explosive force of most modern nukes should be greater than 25,000 tons of TNT right?

So why were all the skyscrapers still standing granted they looked worse for wear but even still.

Looking down to the streets I could see that there were shadows moving, not human perhaps mutated dogs or animals assuming those could have quickly adapted after the radiation seeped into the environment.

I stepped back from the window trying to take stock of my new world when a new sounded entered my ears... or rather rang out from within my head.

[Master, the Red Alert system is at your service.]

What, the Red Alert System?

I was at a loss that was the name of the game I was trying to play, how could it be a system, also how was I hearing a voice from within my mind?

I was not unfamiliar with the concept of a system since i'd read up plenty of novels on Webnovel with characters who possessed them but having one based of what most would consider an outdated video game that wasn't something i'd ever read before.

Perhpas this was humanities gift for surviving the nuclear apocalypse? Or their awaken gift from the radiation, or just his own growing psychosis from the war.

After calming down some and running through all the possibles he could come up with Jake questions the voice in his head.

System do you know what's going on outside?

[The place where the host is located is a parallel world of your original world Master. The huge energy that appeared when the system was bound to the host brought you here. The development of this world is roughly the same as in your world except that at the turn of the millennium in 0AD, an infection began to spread around the planet causing the infected to turn into what you would know as being zombies, or the undead, as a result countless animals and plants of this Earth mutated, and challenged humanity for control of the planet. At first humans relied on a large number of weapons to resist, but as time went on the zombie hordes and mutant beasts became stronger and stronger pushing the dominant humans back as ordinary weapons could no longer harm them. At present humanity is at a disadvantage and on the brink of extinction.]
