Surviving as an Idiot in a Horror Game

Chapter 13

The feeling wasn't bad. It seemed it wouldn't do any harm.

"Morat!"

Thud!

While I was distracted by the awakening window, Cyan summoned something like a large sphere of light.

Then the sphere separated into several cyan spirits that looked like jellyfish. They stuck to the door or pushed against it.

'It's like being in an aquarium.'

I took my eyes off the awakening window while watching the jellyfish spirits' efforts.

I had to show that I was distracted by the jellyfish, befitting the foolish Lady April.

If I'm in the process of awakening, the probability is high that others are awakening too. Not bad.

'We're only on the 4th floor but it seems they're already giving traits to match the equivalent exchange due to the increased difficulty... I should think positively.'

From the section where traits appear, it becomes easier to solve problems as we can fight monsters. That's just by my standards though.

It's possible to attack monsters even before traits appear, but it's practically close to madness.

Simply put, with the weak and slow Yeniel character, attacks would only deal -1 damage.

-1!

-1!

-1!

-1!

They pop up one by one like this.

Do you know how much seeing -1 raises one's blood pressure? You have to experience it to know. The monster's health is around 400, and seeing it decrease by 1 each time really made me lose it.

Fortunately, after traits appeared and the faction's combat power increased significantly, damage was dealt properly.

From then on, it was faster to attack monsters and chip away their health rather than just running away meaninglessly. That's just my opinion though.

My brother was shocked, saying I was crazy for trying to break through by fighting.

Cyan, who had been examining various parts of the door using spirits for a while, shook his head.

"There are no gaps. It's not only impossible to go to the other side, but it's also too solid to break. It seems we have no choice but to find another way to open this door."

"If Sir Cyan is right, there might be something to help us somewhere. There must be a clue somewhere."

Yeniel calmly offered her opinion.

'Ah, I remember.'

I turned around from the huge door and looked towards the corridor. Near where the corridor and short lobby connected, light from somewhere was touching the ceiling.

"Lady Yeniel! There's something pretty over there."

Fortunately, I also recalled how to open the door without the master key.

I gently tugged on Yeniel's sleeve. Then I pointed to the stone stairway passage we had come through.

[Yeniel's affection has slightly increased.]

It was an inexplicable increase in affection in this situation.

"Lady April, why the ceiling suddenly? Is there something up there? That's...! Everyone, look over there!"

Yeniel, who was looking up at the upper part while squinting from the sunlight, noticed where I was pointing.

There were small cracks. Strangely, the light passing through the cracks formed into letters of a shape I had never seen before.

Yeniel muttered while looking at the letters.

"It's ancient language. The key is among several rooms. Find the key."

The moment her voice echoed, a faint mechanical sound was heard. The roar of a device moving.

At the same time, with a clatter and rattle, the structure of the temple changed.

"Huh?"

Max was flustered.

The corridor with rooms 201 to 212. The stairs in the middle that we had come up started to go down to the floor again.

As soon as the stairs went down completely, the open second floor closed with a rumbling thud.

Max, turning pale, shouted.

"The stairs are blocked! We're trapped on the second floor!"

"It's alright. Be quiet, Max. Even if we go to the first floor, there's only the path we've already passed through in the dungeon, and if we try to go back, we'll face the giant spider again anyway."

The Crown Prince exhaled.

"It's better to think that the floor closed to prevent the spider from chasing us."

In reality, we're trapped though.

Yeniel suggested.

"Let's first check the numbered rooms in this corridor. I don't remember checking if they were open. Besides, those rooms are the only places we haven't searched."

"That's true."

Cyan agreed with Yeniel's words.

The doors lined up on both sides of the corridor. We approach the final clues.

Walking a few steps ahead of the group, I was scanning the doors when I suddenly stopped.

'7 on the left, 6 on the right. Wait. Wasn't it supposed to be from 201 to 212?'

I waited until others noticed too.

"Here, one more door has appeared on the left wall. Perhaps the mechanism that just operated was for this."

As expected, the sharp-eyed Cyan quickly noticed the change.

"This is the only one without a nameplate."

Yeniel replied.

I approached the newly appeared door without a nameplate and pulled the handle.

"Oh my? It's open."

I peeked inside slightly.

I don't know what might come out from inside, but at least I could avoid it.

But it was obvious that others would get hurt. Like the injured Crown Prince.

Cyan stopped me as I was about to go right in.

"It's dangerous, Lady April."

"Huh? Why?"

"Because it would be terrible if you go in and get trapped in that room. We don't know what might happen. For now, it would be better to carefully examine other options as well."

From 201 to 212.

All the numbered rooms were locked.

It was the same result even when we took turns pulling the doorknobs.

'I think some of these opened without a key in the game.'

Probably. I just passed it because I was confused whether I had opened them with the master key.

The Crown Prince shrugged.

"It seems the only clue is that one open room after all."

The room without a nameplate, the only door that wasn't locked and was open. Everyone stood in front of it.

The Crown Prince spoke while pressing the handkerchief to his neck.

"There might be options to open those numbered doors in this room. Let's proceed while being as cautious of our surroundings as possible."

I entered through the open door first. Yeniel followed me in.

"Is there anyone there, Lady April?"

"No."

The spirit Cyan had summoned was suddenly fixing the door to prevent it from closing.

In the center of the room we entered, there was an antique full-length mirror.

I laughed brightly and waved at the mirror.

"We can see all of us. Hello! I can see Lady Yeniel too."

Max was looking at his crown in the mirror, turning pale.

"My hair...! Why does my crown look so thin?"

Max, who had been examining his hair in the mirror, pulls it together to cover his crown. I didn't feel particularly sorry.

For reference, the full-length mirror was the size used by dancers in practice rooms. It was big enough to fit all 5 of us with room to spare.

'Come to think of it, isn't this the mid-boss appearance location?'

It's unlikely there would be another mirror this big in another room.

I looked around to see if there might be a secret mechanism on the walls or floor, but there was nothing.

The footsteps of the group walking slowly eventually reached in front of the huge mirror.

Strangely, our gazes were drawn to it.

Yeniel and I, Cyan, the Crown Prince, and Max were reflected in the mirror we approached.

For a very brief moment, our reflections in the mirror distorted and changed into the form of evil spirits with bright red eyes.

And then, the unfamiliar versions of us reflected in the mirror all simultaneously broke into creepy smiles.
