Survive as a Prison Guard in the Game

Chapter 171 - Purgatory (8)

Chapter 171

Purgatory (8)

The Martial God sprang up from his seat, looking at the sight that had just happened.

“What the hell….”

“Did the Sword Saint just get killed?”

Some of the Transcendents around find it hard to accept. However, the one who caused this disturbance has already returned to the mortal world.

Or rather.

Aside from the shocked ones.

The other Transcendents looked at the current situation coldly.

“He’s the leader, right? If that’s the case, then those in the Central League must have also returned. It seems like it’s all ended with just the Sword Saint.”

“Guess we’ll have to fill the vacancy, huh?”

“It will be a long time before a new Transcendent is chosen.”

They were already thinking about the future.

Mushin’s thoughts were no different.

There was no way to undo what had happened. The disaster had occurred, the damage was done, and the one responsible had fled to the mortal realm, beyond the reach of retaliation.

However,

It was necessary to fix the problem.

‘We sent you here as part of a plan.’

The Sword Saint addressed his opponent as the Demon Church, and the Demon Church revealed that this was all part of their plan.

The existence of Purgatory.

How to get in.

They know everything.

Mushin recalled the words the Demon Church cultist had spoken just before he left.

– It’s regrettable, but I’ll deal with you another time.

Such words were not to be taken lightly.

It wasn’t the difference in skill that had caused Sword Saint to lose, but the specialized magic the opponent had prepared.

A custom-made sealing magic.

They came in with clear intent, and if they were to do so again in the future, all the Transcendents here could end up like the Sword Saint.

The destruction of Purgatory.

He couldn’t let that happen.

‘There’s only one way.’

The Martial God remembered the request that the Sword Saint had made before stepping out into the arena.

-If anything should happen to me, give my power to the child who wields my sword.

The child he was referring to was someone who was making a name for themselves in the Central League alongside the Demon Church.

A boy who used the same sword techniques as the Sword Saint.

A disciple who signed himself over to Sword Saint’s personal Academy.

And

“Irregular.”

That disciple was a living being, like the man in Black Hood.

People from the same world, who crossed over in similar fashion.

Mushin strode out of the arena. Moving towards his private quarters assigned to the Transcendents.

He barked a single order to the personal assistant at the entrance.

“Bring in a man named Redin from the Central League.”

“Yes, sir.”

The assistant disappeared in a flash.

He walked back inside the house and sat down on the couch. It wasn’t long before the assistant returned with Redin.

Mushin looked at Redin.

Though he had a sharp impression.

It wasn’t a fierce one.

“You can call me Mushin.”

“I’m Redin.”

“Sit.”

Redin sat down across from him.

Redin calmly waited, though it was understandable for him to be curious about why he was summoned and for what reason.

Mushin smirked at Redin’s behavior.

The Sword Saint was not an easy type to understand either—perhaps one might call him eccentric. His disciple seemed similar.

“I called you here because I have a few questions for you.”

“Yes.”

“First, you’re an Irregular, right?”

“That’s right.”

Redin acquiesced quickly.

Mushin nodded in agreement.

“Let’s begin by hearing how you came to be here.”

“In the world where I live, there is an underground tower where prisoners are kept. In the past, it was where the Great Prisoners were imprisoned, and when I entered there, I woke up and found myself here.”

Mushin rubbed his chin.

A mass of dead had crossed over once before. Since then, the living have crossed over at intervals.

The exact reason is unclear.

With so many individuals coming to Purgatory at the same time, Mushin wondered if the passage to Purgatory had been activated.

At least Redin wasn’t lying.

Mushin crossed his legs and moved on to his next question.

“So, if you’re Irregular, how did you know about this place?”

“……”

“For a guy who stumbled in here. I’m surprised you haven’t been spotted by the others. Usually the living are prone to doing silly things….”

“I read a book.”

“Book?”

“It was an ancient book called The Purgatory Expedition. It contained tips on how to handle this place, written by someone who had once visited.”

A Book.

If such a book existed.

No wonder the Demon Church managed to get into this place.

“One last question. What is your relationship with the Demon Church?”

“Enemies.”

Mushin could sense the sincerity in Redin’s tone.

There was no lie in that statement.

Mushin nodded and rose from his seat.

“Follow me.”

They walked out of the house and along the well-paved road. Redin walked silently beside him.

It wasn’t long before they stopped walking.

Mushin looked at the building on their left and spoke.

“This is the building that the Sword Saint used to live in.”

“Okay.”

“I called you here to give you access to this building. It’s not too difficult to use.”

Mushin opened the door and stepped inside.

All of the buildings were similar in style anyway, and the only thing unique about them was their personalized interior designs.

The sword saint’s taste was for simplicity.

There was nothing particularly special about the interior.

“Well. He’s only interested in swords.”

“Why are you letting me use this place?”

“A request from the Sword Saint.”

But that wasn’t the whole story.

The only way to stop the Demon Church from coming to Purgatory was to destroy the path from the mortal world and deal with the Demon Church.

As much as he’d like to do it myself.

Those in the Transcendent Realm could not cross over to the mortal world even if they killed one of the living.

Because their power is too great.

So he needed someone to do the work for him.

“And I have a favor to ask.”

“What is it?”

“When you return to the mortal world, I want you to destroy all the passageways to this place, and clean out the Demon Church.”

Redin nodded his head.

“I understand.”

“Any questions?”

“I have.”

“What is it?”

“What happened to the sword saint?”

*Ah.*

Mushin let out a light sigh and opened his mouth again.

“The Demon Church took him away. That’s why I’m renting this place to you. You’ll have to grow to that level of skill to hunt them down.”

“Then what am I supposed to do here?”

Mushin activated the magic circle in the living area.

In an instant, the entire peripheral vision turned white.

Meanwhile, Redin calmly looked around. Seeing him remain so calm, Mushin shook his head.

“Now, for a brief introduction, this is the training ground, which can be used by any building in the Central League and above.”

“…..”

“You can choose any opponent you want, and use whatever weapon you wish. Try it.”

Redin closed his eyes for a moment, then a sword appeared in his hand, and then someone who looked just like Mushin appeared.

Redin opened his eyes and looked at the clone, showing emotion for the first time.

Admiration.

” Is this like the real Martial God?”

“About half the power I have, to be exact, but the Upper League has its privileges.”

Mushin raised his hand.

Mana flowed out of it and into the magic circle on the floor.

“If you activate the magic circle like this….”

*Rumbles!*

The clone of Mushin let out a tremendous burst of pressure. Redin grimaced as he endured the pressure.

“You’ll be able to fight me at 90% strength. Of course, apart from me, you can also fight any other Transcendent.”

*Swish!*

With a sweep of his hand, Mushin sliced the clone’s head in half, instantly dissipating the pressure and causing Redin’s frown to return.

“Huu…”

“How much time do you have left?”

“Less than a week.”

“Here.”

Mushin tossed over a small necklace.

“What is this?”

“If you have that, you’ll be able to stay in purgatory for another week. This is all I can do for you. The rest is up to you.”

The following days in Purgatory were packed.

Day and night didn’t exist.

Rising at 6 a.m. based on the Clock Tower, Redin made his way to the Academies.

First, he went to the one run by the Shadow Grandmaster, where he learned more about manipulating the shadows.

Afterward, he went straight to the Dragon Lord’s Academy to learn more about Dragon Magic.

When asked how a human could learn Dragon Magic, Redin made an excuse, saying he was a half-dragon, and continued to train.

The Shadow Grandmaster and the Dragon Lord.

The two transcendents had the same idea as the Martial God. They wanted to completely block the path to purgatory and prevent such things from happening again.

So they were very cooperative.

After spending the morning at the academy, Redin returned to Sword Saint’s abode at one o’clock in the afternoon to train privately.

The training area that Mushin had told him about.

There, he went over the exercises that the Shadow Grandmaster and Dragon Lord had taught him.

Once he was finished.

He would conjure up the Sword Saint and refine his Moonlight Sword.

“Let’s get started.”

*Ooooh!*

A clone of Sword Saint appeared on the white training field.

With a sword drawn, the clone radiated murderous intent. Redin raised his own energy in response and gripped the hilt of his sword tightly.

The Sword Saint clone moved first.

In an instant, they disappeared.

It was a stunning movement that happened in the blink of an eye.

But it was a move Redin had already anticipated from his long hours of training. He sensed the approach of the sword saint and brandished his own weapon.

*Booom!*

A huge impact rippled out.

Redin endured it and confronted the clone.

The Moonlight Sword didn’t have a separate sword technique.

The Realm of Supersensory.

Or should he call it an awakening mode that utilizes everything he has.

*Bam!*

*Clash!*

*Clang!*

Information flooded in through his heightened senses. The movements of the sword saint’s clone, along with its sword path and power.

Using it, Redin aimed for a counterattack.

With the swing of his blow, the aura blade created a gust of wind that swept across the front.

*Whirrrr!*

But the clone was unscathed.

Just as Redin predicted with the Moonlight Sword, the Sword Saint’s clone saw through all his movements using it as well.

So throughout the entirety of his training, Redin had only one thing on his mind.

How do he defeat an opponent who can predict and react to his every move?

“Erasing my movements.”

How he’s going to move, how he’s going to attack. It’s just a matter of making sure the other person can’t figure it out at all.

It was easier in words, but harder to put it into practice.

But after practicing for a long time, he had a rough idea.

Redin stopped his breathing and observed his body.

The first thing he felt was the beating of his heart, the blood moving through his veins and the movement of his muscles.

Relaxing and contracting.

Controlling the muscles to move according to his will, he began to control them one by one.

Down to the tiniest tremor.

No movement, no life, no mana.

Redin erased everything, completely removing his existence from his opponent.

The result.

The clone of the Sword Saint ceased moving and stood still. As the information he was reading disappeared, it naturally stopped.

While looking at his opponent like that, Redin let go of all his control in an instant.

So that the clone couldn’t even react using the Moonlight Sword.

Or even if they did, they would be bombarded with so much information that they wouldn’t be able to respond properly.

*Swish!* *Swish!*

Mana swords poured out from the air around him, as he swung the aura blade in both hands.

*Thud!*

The clone’s head was decapitated.

“Huff…. Huff…”

[You have Mastered the Moonlight Sword].

[You’ve discovered the path to the Heart Sword].

[Reduced the number of dream days on the path towards Divinity].

His training is now complete.

It was time to return back home.
