Surgery Godfather

Chapter 229 - 0214: Smog Everywhere

Chapter 229: Chapter 0214: Smog Everywhere

A highly complex surgery had everyone prepared to be patient, watching Yang Ping traverse mountains and valleys.

However, as they observed, it didn’t look like a major surgery at all. Amidst the poking and prodding with the probe, the surgery was suddenly over.

The only drawback to the surgery was Director Wu. He always seemed to lose pace and frequently loosened his grip, unable to maintain traction.

Each time this occurred, a probe would magically appear, delivering a strong stimulating jolt to the peripheral nerves in his hand. This would jolt Director Wu back into focus, aiding him in cooperating with the surgery.

Everyone else performed well, except Director Wu.

Watching this surgery was an indescribeable pleasure. Even those doctors who were previously downtrodden by the botched surgeries immediately regained their confidence after observing this one. A doctor can definitely do better.

As the surgery ended, Director Wu noticed that all around him were colleagues from his department, staring at him. Some were even whispering about something. His intense feeling of shame hadn’t really hit him until this moment, as he was previously immersed in the surgery.

Now, the surge of embarrassment hit him like a tidal wave. Every time any of the observing doctors so much as moved their mouths, he assumed they were secretly laughing at him. He wished he could just crawl into a hole and hide.

The delicate probe, being much lighter than hemostatic forceps and other tools, didn’t weigh much when hitting the back of his hand which was sheathed in a surgical glove.

However, in Yang Ping’s hand, its power was tremendous. The determination of its speed was crucial.

The half-centimeter tip of the probe bent at a right angle. Yang Ping used the very tip to strike with the speed of lighting, accurately and unerringly, perpendicular to the target, focusing energy on a single point.

The faster the speed, the greater the energy. As the rounded tip was small and slim, the pressure per unit area was higher. Thus, the explosive power was immense.

Director Wu was certain that right now his hands were covered in dot-like bruises that would spread in the next few days.

After he removed his gloves, sure enough, both of his hands were covered with round bruise spots. The force of the strike was no wonder it hurt like hell.

With his hands in this condition, Director Wu sighed inwardly, knowing he wouldn’t be able to perform surgery for a few days. Yet he kept a smile on his face, pretended as if nothing had happened.

There was no choice. Right now, Yang Ping was the one in charge.

With Yang Ping stepping away from the lead surgeon position, Song Zimo came forward, stitching up several 0.5 cm incisions, covering with sterile dressings, checking the shoulder joint mobility. Very stable, with all structures organically synergized, restoring the path of the humeral head to normal.

There were no issues with the surgical result. If Yang Ping could not achieve this result, Song Zimo could not imagine who else could.

At first, there was scepticism and disbelief amongst the orthopedic surgeons, especially those with higher-ranking titles, towards Yang Ping taking on the surgery. However, their doubts were completely dissipated with less than an hour’s performance.

The nurses weren’t just for show either. Their proficiency was beyond anything they would likely see at the City People’s Hospital, even in a few years’ time.

The surgical instrument vendors who attended the surgery also left an impression. Before, they might have had doubts about their own vendors, but not anymore after seeing this.

As Yang Ping was taking off his surgical gown, a few doctors rushed to help him. However, they were beaten to it by Jiahui who with quick and skillful hands, undid a few strings on the back, unravelling the gown.

A stool was already prepared. “Teacher Yang, you must be tired! Take a seat, rest for a while.”

All surgery consumables had been folded up, layer by layer, put into eco-friendly bags, and finally loaded onto a Wuling Hongguang car in the hospital parking lot, ready to be taken back to the company.

Jiahui had all the key details such as the layout of the operating room, the condition of orthopedic instruments, etc., stored in her mind, even the operating-room gatekeeping aunty had received a little token of appreciation from her.

“Little girl, I will remember you.”

“Ruixing’s Little Yellow may come here often. Please take care of her.”

The aunty was very pleased with the small but respectful gift.

Jiahui had already added the head nurse on WeChat, regardless of whether Yang Ping would come back for surgeries, it was always good to be prepared.

“Let’s go have some rest. We will have a simple meal together soon.” Dean Xie led everyone out of the dressing room.

Mr. Jiang’s son had made arrangements beforehand, booking the best hotel in G City and preparing several luxury cars to transport them. With their high status, how could they send such a huge team back informally after performing the surgery?

Escorted by everyone, Yang Ping left the operating room. It was still early, just ten o’clock. After resting for a while before heading to the hotel for some tea, it would be just about right.

“Let’s visit the orthopedic ward!” Yang Ping suggested as that was where his career began.

Accompanied by Director Wu, he pressed the elevator button. “Good, good!”

“Go with Teacher Yang to visit the orthopedics ward. I have some work to attend to and will join you later.”

Indeed, Dean Xie was busy, in quite a pickle recently.

These few years, he had been commuting by bike to work, wearing cheap clothes bought from street stalls, wearing those shirts for years.

If it wasn’t for the scandal involving the old leader, he would have taken early retirement and been tending gardens in Australia by now.

Now with Mr. Jiang’s help, things might take a turn for the better.

Director Wu led Yang Ping to the orthopedic ward, and Song Zimo and others followed close behind. Little Five intentionally walked at the back, chatting with some old colleagues.

Several high-ranking doctors tried to keep up with Yang Ping’s pace. Everyone used to boss him around.

Some of them felt embarassed and didn’t want to suck up to him.

Others didn’t think like that. Yang Ping used to be a junior doctor and it was normal to order him around.

On the other hand, Yang Ping’s former supervisor, Director Fu, always kept a distance from him.

Coming back to the old ward, everything was just the same. Several nurses recognized Yang Ping.

“Yang Ping! Yang Ping! You’re back?”

The nurses exclaimed, rushing to greet him.

“Which hospital did you go to?” They all cared deeply.

He left without notification, no one had seen him since until he suddenly reappeared. Everyone was pleasantly surprised.

While at the People’s Hospital, Yang Ping was not a big socializer, but he was solid as a rock, dedicated, and he never lost his temper with the nurses. The nurses all liked him very much, especially the ones on his shift, they all felt at ease with him.

“He is now Professor Yang, he’s here for Jiang Baicheng’s surgery.” Someone told the nurses and they were immediately dumbstruck.

Just look at this scene, surrounded by a horde, accompanied by Director Wu, and Director Wu is constantly bending over.

Usually, Director Wu in front of everyone, strutted around with a straight chest like a dragon and tiger, only when he met Dean Xie would he humble himself to please.

The nurses wanted to take Yang Ping to the nurse’s station to chat about recent events, but they didn’t dare do so with Director Wu around, so their mood dampened.

The nurses would always avoid Director Wu if they could, those with connections have all requested transfers to other departments. Working in orthopedics was tormenting, one morning briefing could make you question your existence.

Everyone’s everyday work mentality was always looking forward to the end of their shift.

“Director Wu, I’ll wander around on my own.” Yang Ping gave Director Wu a pass.

How could Director Wu let Yang Ping out of his sight? Although Yang Ping said he wouldn’t expose him, he was always uneasy, and only felt at ease when Yang Ping was in his view.

The crowd was walking around like visitors, moving through the corridor.

Everything was the same as before, the familiar duty room had not changed. When the door was pushed open, the guy on duty was eating breakfast, it was already close to ten, and he was still eating breakfast.

This guy had dark circles under his eyes like a panda, two cold pieces of bread, a bottle of possibly expired yoghurt, eating ravenously while letting out belches.

He looked up, stunned: “Yang Ping–”

This was Dr. Dai, who was in the same group as Yang Ping at the time. Dr. Dai was a specialist at the time, and although Yang Ping had also just become a specialist, he wasn’t appointed and was just an assigned resident. They had a good relationship at the time.

Dr. Dai put down his half-eaten bread and came over to greet him, Yang Ping hugged his shoulders.

Seeing the large group behind him and the flattering smile on Director Wu’s face.

Dr. Dai was a bit bewildered.

“Dr. Yang, it’s time to eat, the car arranged by Mr. Jiang is waiting downstairs.”

Director Wu said awkwardly, he didn’t want Yang Ping to stay in the department longer, he was worried, in front of so many people, calling him Professor Yang would be hard on his tongue, so in a moment of quick thinking, he referred to him as Dr. Yang.

“We’ll catch up next time!” Yang Ping said farewell to Dr. Dai.

At the back of the crowd, a young doctor, who was close to Little Five, Dr. Zhou, was explaining the current situation in the department to Little Five: “Old Dai is now a senior resident.”

He’s a specialist, why is he still a senior resident?

Dr. Zhou said, “Once during a case discussion, he questioned Director Wu’s surgical plan in the meeting, Director Wu ordered him to go back and be a senior resident for another six months to gain more experience.”

“What about President Wan?”

President Wan was a senior resident, according to the timeframe, his one-year residency hasn’t expired yet.

“Fired!”

“What happened?”

“Oh, it’s a long story!”

Dr. Zhou motioned for Little Five to stop and waited until they were a distance away from the crowd before whispering in Little Five’s ear.

“That kid didn’t knock before bursting into the director’s office, Director Wu was on the sofa with a woman–”

Smoke and mirrors!

“Those who are not on night shift, come for dinner, it’s Yang’s treat, I’ll send you the address later, let’s catch up properly…” Little Five instructed Dr. Zhou to inform the others.

Yang Ping took everyone to the general department to see Jiang Baicheng after the surgery. The minimally invasive surgery caused minimal disturbance and almost no bleeding; his recovery was very fast, incomparable to open surgeries.

Fatty’s nerve block was a genuine nerve block, almost the same as local infiltrative anesthesia, no food prohibition was required after surgery, and Jiang Baicheng was already drinking chicken soup with his wife’s company.

“Dr. Yang, thank you!”

Jiang Baicheng knew everything, he was conscious and could hear the conversation in the operating room.

He could tell from the doctor’s chatter that his surgery was highly difficult, and only a handful of people in the country could handle it, but Dr. Yang did a very successful job, quick and good.

A hero emerges in his youth! Of course, the young Dr. Yang seems to have a temper and showered Director Wu with insults. He even knew a bit about the reprimanding handclaps used to discipline Director Wu’s lack of focus.

“The operation was very successful, rest and recover well, and follow Director Wu’s guidance for postoperative recovery!” Yang Ping shook his hand.

“Thank you for your hard work, I’ll join you for a casual meal later, but I won’t be able to stay long; please don’t mind my family taking my place!” Jiang Baicheng apologized.

After visiting Jiang Baicheng, the surgical team went to eat.

Jiang Baicheng’s son had arranged several cars, he personally opened the car door for Yang Ping.
