Chapter 10: CHAPTER TEN: BATTLE AT NIGHT
"Guys, change of plans," I said as we began to think of a way to get out of this situation.
"Focus on your battle! I've got this!" Ryan said as he and Diana came in through the window.
"You're the one who turned him into a werewolf," Sam charged at me, his voice laced with fury.
I didn't reply. I waited until Sam was a bit closer, then I moved to the side, expecting him to crash into the wall. But he stretched out his hand, grabbing my shoulder and lifting me off the ground.
In a split second, I folded my legs against his arm, using my weight to swing him in Blake's direction, where Blake was struggling against Jack.I landed right in front of the door to the unconscious guy's room.
"Duck, Ethan!" I quickly bent my head as I heard a whooshing sound accompanied by heat over my head.
Then, I heard Diana's voice in my mind, Ethan, quickly transform.
(YOU HAVE TRIGGERED TRANSFORMATION)
I felt the familiar rush of energy coursing through me.
I glanced forward to see Sam blocking the flames with both hands across his face, moving closer.
As soon as I completed my transformation, I growled and jumped, slamming Sam into the hole, then jumped after him.
I landed on top of him as he crashed into the ground on the second floor, creating a massive crater.
I grabbed him from the back of his neck, slamming him against the bed, which broke apart as he hit it.
But Sam quickly used his hands to pull me closer and delivered a headbutt, making me stagger a few steps back.
Before I could regain my footing, a punch landed squarely on my chest, forcing the air from my lungs as I flew backward and hit the wall. You received 10% damage.
(Health: 85%)"Ethan!" Blake shouted, trying to rush to my side.
"Be careful!" Diana sent a message through our link.Blake leaped back as a leg resembling a cheetah's shot toward him.
He stopped his retreat but still managed to guard his chest.
However, he was still sent flying into the wall, hitting the ground with a painful thud."Damn it!" I cursed under my breath.
We were losing ground.Sam and Jack were relentless.
They were here for a reason, fueled by a mission to capture me for turning the unconscious guy into a werewolf.
They didn't even know him; they only cared about their goal.
"Let's take them out!" Jack growled, his eyes narrowing with determination."Diana, how's Ryan doing?" I shouted amid the chaos.
"He's almost out!" she replied, her focus unwavering.
"We need to hold them off just a little longer."I slammed Sam into the wall again, trying to gain some ground.
"You think this will save him?" he snarled. "You're just making things worse!""I'm doing what I have to!" I shot back.
"And you don't understand what you're dealing with!"With Ryan finally sneaking into the room, I could see him moving silently toward the window, sweat dripping down his face.
He was carrying the unconscious guy, clearly torn between fear and action."Jump!" Diana urged him telepathically.
"I—I can't," Ryan's thoughts quivered through the link.
"Trust me. There's no time!" Diana insisted, her urgency apparent.Ryan took a deep breath, resolve tightening his face.
He finally jumped, his fear evident as he plummeted. But he landed safely on Diana's golden disk floating below.
"Go, Blake!" I shouted, adrenaline still surging as I prepared to follow Ryan."I'm right behind you!" Blake called out, panic etched on his face.
With Ryan and Blake's escape underway, I noticed Sam and Jack starting to falter.
Their attacks were becoming more desperate, and they were clearly showing signs of exhaustion.
"Let's regroup and get out of here!" I yelled, urgency lacing my voice."Get to safety! We'll hold them off!" I called to Ryan and Blake. With one last effort, I pushed against Sam and Jack, determined to give Ryan and Blake the chance they needed to escape.
Ryan and Blake bolted toward the window, leaving us behind."Damn it!" Jack cursed, frustration clear in his voice."Let's focus on our fight," I urged Diana, trying to keep my mind clear despite the chaos around us.In that critical moment, it was clear that Sam and Jack were not in good shape to chase after us.
They were too drained, their mission slipping through their fingers."Diana, can we get out of here?" I asked urgently.
"We can't let them follow us," she replied, her focus unwavering as she pushed against Sam's next attack.
With Ryan and Blake now safely away, I exchanged a glance with Diana.
The fight was ours for now, but I knew we had to retreat soon.
You received 10% damage. (Health: 75%)I slammed my fist into Sam again, feeling the energy drain from my body.
The stakes were higher than ever. I was fighting for my life, my friends, and the innocent guy who had been caught in this mess.
"Now!" Diana urged.Together, we launched another coordinated attack, trying to keep Sam and Jack occupied.
"Let's show them what we've got!" I shouted, the adrenaline coursing through me.With one last furious exchange, I could feel my health slipping. You received 10% damage. (Health: 65%)Finally, I sensed a moment of weakness in Sam and Jack.
They were both breathing heavily, clearly out of steam."Diana, we need to go!" I shouted.
"Now!" she agreed, her eyes fierce. As we prepared to retreat, I felt a surge of energy come from behind.
Jack charged forward, but Diana intercepted him with a spell that sent him reeling back."Go! We can't hold them for long!" I shouted as I ran alongside Diana.
"Let's get out of here!" Blake urged, watching from the window.
With a final push, Diana and I rushed toward the exit as Ryan and Blake vanished into the night.
I could see the determination in their eyes."Damn it!" Jack growled.
"We'll get you next time!""Let's regroup and rethink our strategy," Sam gasped, clearly exhausted. As we made our escape, I felt the weight of the battle lift, but I knew it was far from over.
