Chapter 4: Missing The Point
Kagome woke the next morning; she looked around and saw Sango sitting with her knees to her and her head down. She was asleep. Kagome sat up and tried to stand, but the pain between her legs hurt. That's when she realized what had happened and started to cry. Sango woke to the sound of Kagome's soft tears.
Sango moved to her friend and held her, rocking her back and forth.
"Oh, Sango!"
"Kagome, it's ok. I'm here for you, Kagome; what happened to you?"
She didn't answer but kept crying. Kagome was mad at herself, at him, at her own body. Her body betrayed her. She let her sadness over Inuyasha rule her, Sesshomaru would call that foolish though he probably knew.
Miroku walked in and looked at the two girls holding each other and gave them a soft apologetic look.
"Kagome, why don't we eat? After that, you can rest some more, and later, if you want, we can talk."
Kagome sniffed and looked up, and gave a small smile.
"Ok," She agreed.
Sango helped Kagome up, and they went to eat, which they did in mostly silence.
Sesshomaru had been in his dojo since he returned. Everyone stayed away, even Rin; she missed him, but she knew something was wrong, plus she had to be off to see her teacher; she was learning to read and write at the time.
Sesshomaru was angry. He read his father's book over and growled.
"Damn you," He knew deep down what he had done would not give him power. He had lost control—anger at his father, at humans, Mikos.
He looked at the book again and read it again.
My power, my new power, my great power, I shall use it for the will of good, for I am wise. My Love, she has given me my power, she has loved me, a demon Lord. Heart pure, heavy with Love for me which has given me my power, I shall protect my sons, I hope that for them they get to feel this power and use it for the will good, for the will of Love. My heart bleeds for her, my Love. All the fighting and training in the world, all the knowledge does not come close to baring the power she had brought me. Supreme power, it was her, this human woman, my Love, my mate.
Sesshomaru didn't get it; he found a human woman pure of heart, so what did he need from her? How could she give him power? How could a human ever think to give him the power he sought? Overpowering her did not work. Indulging in his desire for her did not work.
Stupid half-breed.
He didn't get it. He knew the girl had love in her heart; she was pure and a human woman. Powerful.
He was missing the point. It was so easy to see, yet not for him, not for someone like him.
He kept pacing back and forth; Kami he cursed his father again and walked out the door and down the hall, everyone ducking in fear. That's when he reached Rin walking; she smiled and walked right by him. His heart stung; he thought about what he had done to Kagome, how he used her, and then looked at his small ward; they looked alike, almost as if Kagome could be her mother. He would have killed any man who dared touch Rin in that way when she came of age. Was this guilt? He told himself no, not guilt; he was thinking of Rin, not Kagome. Then it hit him and he went straight to her teacher.
"Lord, Lord Sesshomaru!"
"Has she learned to read yet?"
"Oh yes, my Lord, she has a bit of trouble here and there but is doing well."
"She understands what she reads?"
"Yes, and sometimes she gives her opinion on what she is reading."
He turned and left; she was human and a girl; maybe if she read it, she could tell him what she thought. He was always told that a child sees and knows things even adults do not. Rin did anyway. They read between the lines if you will. After dinner, he made his way to her room. He knocked, her being the only person he would do that for.
"Come in Lord Sesshomaru,"
He opened the door and walked in, shutting it behind him. Rin was getting ready for bed.
"Rin, I want you to read something to me and tell me what you think"
"Oh yes, my Lord," she was happy to oblige.
He sat down and gave her the book and pointed at what he wanted her to read.
When she was done, she sighed,
"Wow, Lord Sesshomaru, that was so pretty; I love, Love stories."
"A love story?"
"Yes! This is a Love story, is it not?"
He raised an eyebrow,
"No, Rin it is about power."
She looked over the book again.
"Looks like a love story to me; it's sweet, she loved the man so much, and he loved her, his love for her and her love for him, gave them a bond so strong it seems the Kamis themselves could not break it, I hope I find love like that one day, and my prince will take me away, and love me and protect me and he will be the strongest man alive!" she said jumping up and down on her knees on her bed.
He did not like where this was going.
"Rin, you're missing the point."
"No, I'm not!"
This was going nowhere fast, plus he didn't like the talk of love and the thought of Rin in Love with a man; just not his thing; this was a mother-daughter thing. Though she did not have a mother, he was sure when the time came, she would have a lesson about this.
"It is time for bed Rin,"
"Yes, my Lord, Goodnight."
"Goodnight Rin; I trust you will sleep well."
"Yes, my Lord"
He walked out, blowing the candles as he left, and shut the door behind him. Sesshomaru did note that his anger had subsided for now, so he to went to seek sleep.
Kagome and Sango went to the hot springs; not much was said over the way. Shippo was told not to ask, and Miroku already knew better. Now Sango and Kagome were alone.
"Sango," Kagome said, her voice almost void.
"Yes?"
"I need to tell someone,"
"Yes, Kagome, you can trust me."
"I know, Sango."
They both took a moment, and Kagome spoke again.
"He took me, he took my first away, and I'll never get it back," she said, now crying.
"Oh Kagome, I'm so sorry!" Sango rushed to her and hugged her
"Sango, what's so bad is my own body betrayed me; I wanted it, needed it, let him!!"
Sango didn't know what to do; talking like this was not a common thing.
"Who did this, Kagome, who?"
"I'd rather not say right now."
Sango didn't understand why she would not tell her,
"Do I know him?"
"Yes, we all do."
Kami, that could be a lot of people...
"Kagome who did this to you please tell me,"
"Once he started kissing me, I wanted him." She covered her face with her hands. "I should have said stop, pushed him away, and instead, I was weak,"
"Kagome, don't blame yourself, it wasn't your fault,"
But all Kagome could do was cry as she felt guilt for betraying her true wants.
Sango would not press the matter anymore, plus she really didn't know what to say to Kagome without knowing who the man was. The girls finished their bath and went back to the village and went to bed. Kagome was tired, and Sango was full of thought and didn't want to be.
Many people at restless sleep that night. So many questions, so few answers.
