Chapter 1939: I became the Universe’s Child.
"I told you to take care of my daughter, and this is how you are doing this?"
Azriel snorted as he stared at the man in front of him with his usual annoyed expression.
He wanted to bash his son-in-law even further, but before he could do so,
"FATHER!!"
A black rocket shot towards him and barged right into his chest, throwing him on the ground together with her.
"Uggghhh!!"
Azriel groaned in pain.
Aeliana, however, completely ignored that and hugged her father as tightly as she could, as if afraid he would disappear again.
Azriel squinted his eyes as his mouth twitched, he, however, quickly controlled his expression and forced a smile on his face.
Then, he gently patted his daughter's head.
"I am ba—"
Flicker
However, before the Vampire Progenitor could even say something, Aeliana disappeared.
"Huh…?"
"Huh…?"
Both father and daughter frowned in confusion.
Aeliana, who reappeared next to Nux, tried to rush towards her father again, but Nux grabbed her hand.
"Wait."
He called out as his eyes fell on Azriel, who was still lying on the ground.
"Nux, what are you doing?"
Aeliana questioned, her confusion and slight frustration couldn't remain hidden. Nux, however, ignored her and continued to observe Azriel, who still hadn't stood up.
"What happened?"
Nux questioned as he squinted his eyes.
Azriel frowned, and seeing his reaction, Nux grinned.
"So your spine still hasn't regenerated, huh…
What's your current level?
Beginner Stage Cultivator?
Or…
Are you just a mortal right now?"
Nux questioned directly, and everyone present widened their eyes in disbelief.
"What…?"
Aeliana couldn't believe what she was hearing.
She quickly turned towards her father, trying to see through his cultivation, but just like usual, she sensed nothing.
Soon, however, she noticed something different.
Unlike before…
Her father didn't feel… absolute.
When she couldn't sense his cultivation, it wasn't because he was too strong for her to see through, it was because…
He was too weak.
His cultivation… everything he had worked so hard for…
It all disappeared.
Nux then waved his hand, and a golden energy enveloped Azriel, but before he could heal him,
"Stop."
Azriel ordered him to stop, and Nux did as he was told.
Azriel then glanced at one of the Elven Progenitors and nodded at her.
The Progenitor, who realized what he wanted, was momentarily surprised, unable to believe what was happening. However, she didn't let that confuse her and quickly healed Azriel, allowing him to stand.
The Vampire Progenitor dusted off his clothes, and Nux, who continued to observe him, noted another thing.
"Yrniel isn't reacting to you."
Azriel was the closest being to Yrniel. For the world that mourned his death for weeks to not even react to his return…
Something didn't add up.
"It is angry."
Azriel replied with a wry smile.
"What does that mean?"
Nux questioned with a frown on his face.
"I am no longer part of Yrniel. My connection to it no longer exists."
"What…?"
Aeliana blinked in surprise.
Faustina, on the other hand, frowned in confusion.
"That doesn't make sense. I can still sense your connection to Yrniel,
And if you were a foreign entity, your arrival would have alerted us, and that didn't happen."
Azriel chuckled at those words.
"My entire existence doesn't make sense, Faus."
He stared at the Human Progenitor and,
"I abandoned all my Blood Essence that was created out of Yrniel's Energy. You should know what that means."
"…"
Faustina turned silent, unable to retort those words.
"Father…
What happened?"
Aeliana questioned, her face full of worry. At the same time, Nux sealed the space around him, making sure no one could eavesdrop on their conversation.
"I was chosen by the Universe."
Azriel revealed, and the moment he mentioned those words, everyone around him frowned.
"What…?"
Nux questioned.
This was the first time he was hearing of this.
"I became the Universe's Child."
"Is this… similar to being Yrniel's Child?"
Faustina questioned.
"Indeed."
Azriel nodded.
"I was Yrniel's Child before, and after my connection with Yrniel was broken, I became the Universe's Child."
"Wait…"
Nux suddenly frowned.
"If you became the Universe's Child, does it mean…?"
"Yes, I formed a special connection with the Universe's Will."
"What…?"
Nux and the others widened their eyes in disbelief.
"So you saw the Universe's Will."
"I did. I believe that is what saved my life."
"But… why?"
Nux frowned.
He didn't like where this was going.
And as if knowing exactly what he was thinking, Azriel smiled as he questioned back,
"Why do you think?"
Nux's face turned grimmer as he heard those words.
He was right.
The Universe chose Azriel to…
"To deal with the Anomaly."
"Indeed."
Azriel nodded, his smile widening even further, while Nux and his wives' faces became much, much grimmer.
In an instant, the tension rose up. Nux's wives narrowed their eyes as they looked around. The Progenitors did the same. After all, deep down, everyone knew that the instant something happened,
Nux's wives would side with him while the Progenitors would side with Azriel.
The problem, however, was Aeliana and Faustina.
Especially Aeliana.
If her father and husband stood against each other… she didn't know who she would choose…
Heck, just the thought of having to make a choice broke her heart into pieces.
But then,
"The Universe chose you to deal with me?
How dumb."
Nux laughed, instantly easing up, as if all the tension he felt was disappearing.
Azriel smiled as well.
In an instant, the tension in the air eased up like it never existed. Aeliana glanced at Nux with hopeful eyes, and Nux chuckled at that.
"Of course nothing's going to happen.
Do you really think your father and I would fight and put you through the pain of choosing one of us?"
Aeliana lowered her head in embarrassment.
Nux smiled as he placed her head on his chest, patting her head, instantly calming her racing heart.
"You made that fox choose."
Azriel laughed.
"She wasn't my wife.
My wives have special privileges."
