Chapter 275: Sleepover?!
The kiss ended far too soon, but the warmth of it still lingered on Hugo's lips as he stared at Loli, his mind caught somewhere between reality and the strange, floaty feeling in his chest.
For a second, he wasn't sure if he was imagining things, if maybe the skating rink lights were playing tricks on him, but no—Loli was really looking at him like that.
Like he was the only person in the world!
Hehe...
Her cheeks were still a little pink, her lips slightly wet from their kiss, and Hugo was just about to throw out some shamelessly smooth line about how she could kiss him whenever she wanted when she suddenly spoke.
She dropped a nuclear bomb! It was another Hiroshima!
"Do you want to be my boyfriend?"
Hugo's brain malfunctioned. He actually froze mid-breath, his eyes widening a fraction as his brain tried to process what he just heard.
Wait. Wait. This wasn't right. This wasn't how it was supposed to go!
He was supposed to be the one to ask! He had it all planned out; he would find the perfect moment, say something ridiculously charming, maybe even do one of those dramatic 'stare into her soul' things that girls seemed to love!
He was the man, after all!
She was supposed to be the one getting all flustered, not him! What kind of ridiculous, unfair plot twist was this?! Explore new worlds at My Virtual Library Empire
Damn you author!
Loli, completely unaware of the absolute chaos happening inside Hugo's head, just tilted her head at him, waiting nervously.
Meanwhile, Hugo was having a full-blown crisis.
'Okay, think, Hugo, think.' If he said no, that would obviously be the dumbest move of his life because he wanted to be her boyfriend.
But if he said yes too fast, wouldn't that affect the dynamics of the relationship since he wasn't the one that asked? Was that a bad thing? He didn't even know anymore!
Loli raised an eyebrow. "Well?"
Crap. He had taken too long to answer. Now she was staring at him fearfully, and he needed to save himself fast.
So, with the smoothest, most confident tone he could muster, Hugo finally spoke.
"Of course," he said, flashing his signature smirk. "But, just so you know, you totally stole my moment. I was supposed to ask you first!"
Loli let out a laugh, eyes twinkling with amusement and relief. "Oh, were you now?"
"Yes! I had it all planned out. It was going to be dramatic and romantic and absolutely unforgettable."
He placed a hand over his heart, sighing deeply. "And you robbed me of that, Loli. How would you sleep at night knowing you've committed such a crime?"
Loli rolled her eyes but giggled anyway. "Guess you'll just have to make it up to yourself by being the best boyfriend ever."
"Challenge accepted," Hugo said immediately, already feeling smug about the title. Her boyfriend. It had a nice ring to it!
He had done it again! HE WAS THE MAN!
Wait till Sanchez hears about this!
Feeling a burst of energy, Hugo suddenly grabbed Loli's hand and pulled her back onto the ice, spinning her around in a way that made her yelp before catching her again.
"Come on, since you're officially my girlfriend now, you need to prove yourself!"
Loli narrowed her eyes playfully. "Prove myself how?"
"By beating me in a skating challenge."
She snorted. "Hugo, I still can barely stand on my own."
"Sounds like an excuse," he teased. "Winner gets to make a demand from the loser. Anything they want."
Loli pursed her lips, thinking. "Anything?"
Hugo smirked. "Anything. Minus a tutu!"
Now that got her attention. She straightened up, determination flashing in her eyes. "Fine. But when I win, you can't complain."
Hugo laughed. "Oh, sweetheart, the only thing you're winning is another skating lesson."
And with that, their game began.
At first, it was completely unfair. Hugo was too good at this, effortlessly gliding across the ice while Loli struggled to even keep herself upright.
But she was competitive. Extremely competitive.
And even though she nearly fell about one hundred and twenty times in the first ten minutes, she kept pushing, determined to at least put up a fight.
She chased him around the rink, laughing breathlessly whenever she nearly crashed into the wall.
Hugo, being the shameless show-off that he was, kept pulling off flashy moves, skating backwards, twirling, anything to mess with her.
Every time she got close, he'd swerve away at the last second, grinning smugly as she cursed him out.
Then, in a bold move, Loli tried to lunge for him—only to immediately lose her balance and go skidding across the ice on her stomach like a penguin.
Hugo lost it. He actually had to clutch his stomach from how hard he was laughing. "Oh my god, that was the best thing I've ever seen!"
Loli groaned dramatically. "I hate this. I hate you. I hate everything."
Still laughing, Hugo skated over and crouched beside her. "Come on, loser. Let's get you up."
After nearly two hours of skating, falling, and endless teasing, they finally decided to call it a night.
But as soon as they stepped outside, Loli stretched her arms with a satisfied sigh and said, "I want ice cream."
Hugo blinked. "Ice cream? After nearly dying on the ice?"
"Yes. I deserve a reward for my suffering."
Hugo chuckled, shaking his head. "Fine, fine. But if you get brain freeze, don't say I didn't warn you."
They found a small shop nearby and grabbed their cones—Loli got strawberry, Hugo went for chocolate.
It tasted sweet and reminded him of the sexy barista...
Focus, man! You're literally standing beside your girlfriend!
They walked side by side, licking their ice creams and talking about everything and nothing at the same time. It was… nice.
Easy. Being with Loli had a way of making everything feel light, like the world wasn't so serious for once.
Then, out of nowhere, Loli turned to him with a sly smile. "Hey, Hugo?"
"Hmm?"
"Do you want to sleep over at my house tonight?"
Hugo choked. Almost died on his ice cream. WHAT?!
His brain immediately went into overdrive. Wait, hold on. Hold on. HOLD ON. What did she just say?!
Loli raised an amused eyebrow as Hugo struggled to process. "Wow, was it that shocking?"
He coughed, wiping his mouth like he needed to physically reset himself. "I just—" He cleared his throat. "That was just… unexpected."
Loli smirked. "So is that a yes or a no?"
Hugo had never nodded faster in his life!
The chicken pecking rice was back!
