Chapter 98: Backstage

The roar of the crowd was deafening as Ethan stood at the center of the stage, bathed in the glow of the spotlights. The cheers were endless, echoing through the stadium like waves crashing on a shore. Ethan brought the microphone to his lips, his voice steady despite the overwhelming energy around him.

"Thank you," he said, his words carrying through the space. "Thank you for tonight. You've all been amazing. I'll never forget this."

The crowd responded with another eruption of cheers, some fans shouting, "Encore! Encore!" Ethan smiled, his heart swelling with gratitude. He waved one last time before stepping off the stage, the chants of his name following him like a shadow.

As he made his way backstage, the noise of the crowd still reverberating, Rebecca was the first to greet him. She didn't say a word—she just pulled him into a tight hug. Ethan returned the embrace, feeling the tension of the night melt away.

Tears shimmered in Rebecca's eyes as she finally spoke. "That was beautiful, Ethan. I'm so glad... so, so glad she would have loved to be here to see this thank you so much." Her voice cracked, and she hugged him tighter.

Ethan rested his chin on her shoulder. "it's all good also I wanted to do this you are a strong woman Rebecca your sister is lucky to have you."

They stood like that for a moment, the noise of the crowd outside a distant hum.

"Kid!" A booming voice broke the tender moment. Bill came striding in, his usual larger-than-life energy on full display. "That was insane! That's the stuff of legends right there!"

He pulled Ethan into a side hug, patting his back with such enthusiasm that Ethan couldn't help but laugh.

Rebecca, standing to the side now, chuckled as well. Jessica appeared beside her, a satisfied smile on her face. "Ethan," Jessica said, her tone warm but firm. "That was beautiful. Now we need you to do some interviews and greet a few guests."

Ethan hesitated. His mind was elsewhere, his thoughts drifting to the mesmerizing girl he had seen in the VIP section. His heart raced at the memory of her. He had to see her, had to talk to her.

"Wait, just wait—" Ethan started, but Jessica cut him off.

"No, Ethan. It's important," she said, gesturing to the press waiting nearby.

Before Ethan could argue, a reporter from Billboard approached, microphone in hand, followed closely by a cameraman. "Hello, Ethan! Are you ready for a quick interview?"

Jessica interjected before Ethan could respond. "Yes, he is."

Bill clapped Ethan on the shoulder. "Later, kid. I just saw Doja Cat in the building, and no way I'm leaving without getting her autograph." He sauntered off, leaving Ethan to face the reporter.

The interviewer smiled warmly. "Ethan, how are you feeling? How does it feel to perform tonight?"

Ethan's eyes darted around, searching for the girl, but he forced himself to focus. He smiled into the camera. "I feel great. As for performing tonight..." He paused, then grinned. "You were here—you know how it felt."

The reporter laughed. "Fair enough."

Ethan continued, his voice growing steadier. "Honestly, tonight felt electric. This was the best feeling in the world. The crowd was just... spectacular. It felt like a dream." He shook his head, chuckling softly. "No, not a dream. Even dreams can't be this good."

The reporter laughed again. "We get it. That was a magical performance."

She shifted gears. "About your new songs—what are they called?"

"The first one's called Sugar," Ethan replied. "And the second... the second is called The A Team."

The interviewer nodded. "About the second one—the lyrics were so powerful. Care to elaborate on what inspired it? What message you wanted to convey?"

Ethan's smile faltered slightly. He looked down for a moment before answering. "The song was for a friend." He stopped, his throat tightening.

"Would you care to elaborate?" she prompted gently.

He shook his head. "No."

The reporter sighed but didn't push further. "Alright. Tonight was your second-ever live show, but it felt like you've been performing for years. Were you nervous?"

Ethan chuckled. "You know, for my first show, I was a little nervous. But as it went on, I got better. Funny enough, this time, I wasn't nervous at all despite it being a way larger crowd. I just knew it was going to be a great night—and the crowd proved me right."

The interviewer laughed along with him. "Well, you were incredible. So, how are you planning to top tonight's performance? Should fans expect new songs during the tour?"

Ethan opened his mouth to reply but hesitated, glancing toward the VIP section again. His heart sank—she was gone.

"Ethan?" the reporter repeated, pulling his attention back.

"Uh..." Ethan started, but before he could answer, Jessica returned with a group of men wearing traditional Middle Eastern attire.

"Ethan," she called loudly, "I want you to meet Mohammed Salam Si bad. He's an oil tycoon from the Middle East."

The man stepped forward, extending his hand. "Ethan Jones! What a show tonight."

Ethan snapped out of his thoughts and shook the man's hand. "Sorry, my Sinbad," he said, stumbling over the name.

The man laughed heartily. Jessica nudged Ethan playfully. "It's Si-bad," she whispered.

"It's okay," Mohammed said. "Honestly, I came here with my daughter because she's a huge fan, but after tonight, I think I'm a fan too."

He stepped aside, revealing a little girl wearing a hijab. She peeked out shyly from behind her father, her small frame trembling with excitement.

Ethan crouched down slightly, giving her a warm smile. "Hey there," he said, waving gently.

The girl squealed softly and darted behind her father again, hiding her face. Ethan chuckled

Ethan smiled down at the little girl, crouching slightly again. "I'm really glad you came tonight," he said softly. Then, bending further, he extended his arm to her, gently shaking her small hand. "Thank you for being here," he added as he stood back up, his voice warm.

"I'm sorry," Ethan said, glancing at her father. "I need to go somewhere."

Jessica, standing nearby, immediately interjected. "Wait, Ethan, I want you to meet some other people."

Ethan hesitated, his jaw tightening slightly. "Jessica, just five minutes. I'll be right back," he said, his tone resolute but polite.

Jessica looked like she was about to argue but was interrupted by Mohammed. "Miss Jessica, about the birthday plans..."

Jessica's face lit up with recognition. "Oh, yes! Let me show you Bill, his agent." She gestured for Mohammed to follow her but turned back briefly, pointing a finger at Ethan. "Five minutes, Ethan. Don't disappear on me."

Ethan gave her a quick nod before looking at the interview team still lingering nearby. "I'm sorry, I really need to go somewhere."

The interviewer smiled understandingly. "No problem."

As Ethan began walking away, she turned to her cameraman. "Did you get all that?" she asked, her tone excited.

The cameraman nodded, and her grin widened.

Backstage was bustling with activity. As Ethan moved through the area, people greeted him with enthusiasm, some offering high-fives, others congratulating him on his performance. He stopped occasionally to snap pictures with fans who had backstage passes, his eyes constantly scanning the crowd.

His heart was racing, and his thoughts were a whirlwind. Where is she? he wondered, his gaze darting through the sea of faces.

"Ethan, my man!"

A voice pulled his attention, and he turned to see Bad Bunny approaching him with open arms.

"That was electrifying, holy! You're insane, my man!" Bad Bunny exclaimed, clapping Ethan on the shoulder with infectious energy.

Ethan couldn't help but smile. "Thanks, man. I love your songs too."

Bad Bunny laughed heartily. "My man! We need a song together—me and you. That would be explosive!" He said the last word in Spanish, his enthusiasm unmistakable.

Ethan nodded, his smile genuine despite his distraction. "Yeah, yeah. Sure."

"Great, great!" Bad Bunny said, laughing again. "My people will call your people!"

He gave Ethan a final clap on the back before moving on, his entourage following behind him.

Ethan sighed inwardly, his focus snapping back to his original mission. He continued walking, snapping a few more pictures with fans, thanking them for their support, and exchanging a few polite words. But all the while, his mind was elsewhere.

At least she was in the VIP section. Rebecca should have the list of names, he thought, a faint flicker of hope calming him.

Just as he turned a corner, deep in thought, he collided with someone.

"Oof, sorry!" Ethan said instinctively, his hands reaching out to steady the person.

He froze as she looked up at him, her wide eyes locking onto his.

It was her.

Time seemed to slow. Her features were even more breathtaking up close, and for a moment, Ethan felt his breath hitch. The world around them blurred into nothingness as they stared at each other.

"Are you okay?" he asked softly, his voice steady but his heart pounding in his chest.
