Chapter 12: Positivity
How Could My Soul Devour Kurama's Soul?
Naruto was stunned by Kurama's words. But what shocked him even more was that Kurama didn't pull back his chakra—instead, he let Naruto continue to devour it.
Is Kurama insane?
As Kurama's chakra flowed into him, Naruto's body felt like it was on fire. The pain was unbearable, but fortunately, it didn't last long. Just when Naruto thought he might die, the ordeal ended.
Naruto: "What just happened?"
Kurama: "You devoured a portion of my soul power and gained the Yang attribute. But in the process, half of your own soul power was consumed to merge this new attribute."
Gained the Yang attribute? But my soul power was halved? Naruto's mind raced. While gaining the Yang attribute sounded like a good thing, losing half his soul power was a serious drawback. If his soul power was diminished, did that mean his mental energy—and thus his chakra—was also reduced?
Does this mean I'll lose my memories?
Naruto quickly tested his memory by recalling the techniques from the Forbidden Scroll. His consciousness successfully entered the memory of the Third Hokage's study, and the scroll was still there. However, the surroundings seemed dimmer, and some details that were once clear were now blurry.
If my soul power diminishes further, will this memory space collapse? Naruto realized he needed to memorize the techniques from the scroll as soon as possible. His memory space wasn't the same as his actual memory. Real memories were stored in his brain, accessible instantly. This memory space, however, felt more like a spiritual realm tied to his soul. To access the information, he had to "read" it consciously.
Naruto withdrew from the memory space and returned to the seal where Kurama resided. He was still confused about the Yang attribute he'd gained.
Naruto: "So, gaining the Yang attribute… does that mean I've acquired a new chakra nature transformation?"
Kurama: "Yes."
Naruto: "But I thought chakra nature transformations were inherited through bloodlines."
Kurama: "Who told you that?"
Naruto: "Isn't that how kekkei genkai work? They're passed down through bloodlines."
Kurama: "Your understanding is incomplete. Tell me, do I have blood?"
Naruto paused. Kurama was a chakra entity—he didn't have blood.
Kurama: "Chakra nature transformations are tied to the soul, which is essentially a manifestation of spiritual energy. For humans, bloodlines do play a role because they carry traces of the soul's power."
So, it's the soul that determines chakra nature, not just bloodlines.
Naruto: "Does that mean I can learn medical ninjutsu now that I have the Yang attribute?"
Kurama: "Yes, but I don't know medical ninjutsu. If you want to learn it, you'll have to figure it out yourself."
"Also, you'll need to train. Just because you have an affinity for Wind Release doesn't mean you can instantly master it."
Naruto nodded. The Wind Release affinity must have come from devouring the original Naruto's soul. But why did his soul power increase when he merged with Naruto's soul, yet decrease when he merged with Kurama's Yang attribute?
Kurama: "Do you have any other questions? As your teacher, I'm happy to answer them."
Kurama seemed surprisingly invested in his new role as a teacher. Naruto wasn't going to waste the opportunity.
Naruto: "Why did my soul power increase when I merged with Naruto's soul, but decrease when I merged with your Yang attribute?"
Kurama: "It's possible that merging with Naruto's soul was a complete fusion, while merging with my Yang attribute was more like… consuming a part of my soul. That would explain the difference."
"For now, that's just a guess. We'll need more evidence to confirm it."
Naruto: "Got it. No more questions for now."
Kurama's lips curled into a grin, revealing sharp teeth. "Naruto, do you still want to learn the Flying Thunder God Technique?"
Naruto's eyes widened. "But I don't have an affinity for Yin Release…"
Wait a minute. Naruto suddenly realized where Kurama was going with this. The other half of Kurama's body, sealed by the Dead Demon Consuming Seal, was imbued with Yin chakra.
Kurama: "If you can break the seal on the other half of my body, you'll gain access to my Yin chakra. With both Yin and Yang attributes, you'll be able to learn the Flying Thunder God."
The offer was tempting, but Naruto knew it wasn't that simple.
Naruto: "Master Kurama, even if I wanted to, my body can't handle your full power right now. And if I release the other half of you, what's to stop you from taking over my body?"
Kurama: "We'll merge. I'll become stronger, and so will you. I'll be able to help you more."
Naruto: "But to merge, we'd have to break the seal on me first. And even if we did, I can't handle your full power yet."
Kurama: "You can break the seal whenever you want. You have the Four Symbols Seal and its release technique, don't you?"
Naruto: "About that…"
Naruto hesitated but decided to come clean. He lifted his shirt, revealing the seal on his stomach.
Naruto: "The seal on me isn't the Four Symbols Seal. It's a more complex seal—a Eight Trigrams Seal, made up of two Four Symbols Seals."
Kurama: "What?!"
Kurama's eyes narrowed as he examined the seal. While it shared similarities with the Four Symbols Seal, it was far more intricate. Naruto wasn't lying.
The hope in Kurama's eyes faded, replaced by anger. His fur bristled, and his chakra began to boil like molten lava.
Kurama: "You…"
Naruto realized why Kurama had been so cooperative earlier. The Nine-Tails had seen a chance to break free from its cage. But now, with that hope shattered, its true nature was beginning to show.
