Super Gene Ⅱ: Evolution

Chapter 155 - 155 Dragon Hunter

Chapter 155: Chapter 155 Dragon Hunter

Lin Shen watched Jiweis nervously, uncertain whether his abilities could contend with ascended creatures, or how strong the Dragon Slayer’s suppression of dragon-type creatures really was.

After all, it was a Base Variant taking on an Ascension, a truly great leap in levels of challenge.

The Green Crystal Trident darted through the air toward him, with the Dragon Patterns on Jiweis’s body glowing ever brighter. It wasn’t until the trident was almost upon him that Jiweis suddenly dodged to the side while simultaneously grabbing the shaft of the Green Crystal Trident.

With a quick upward flick, the Green Crystal Trident carried Jiweis skyward, weaving through the air in an attempt to shake him off.

Unfortunately for the trident, Jiweis held onto the shaft tightly, refusing to be flung away no matter how fiercely it tried to shake him.

A visible layer of frost formed on the Green Crystal Trident, proving that the environment of this planet impacted even the Life Bases.

The Green Crystal Triceratops let out a roar as the trident abruptly changed direction, flying towards the Green Crystal Triceratops itself.

The three horns of the Green Crystal Triceratops pointed straight at Jiweis, who was still clinging to the trident. If he didn’t let go, he would crash straight into the horns and be pierced through instantly.

Just as the trident reached the Triceratops, Jiweis didn’t release his grip. As it seemed he was about to strike the creature, he arched his back suddenly and swung with his arms, propelling himself over the trident’s shaft and landing heavily on top of it.

The original trajectory of the trident should have carried it over the head of the Green Crystal Triceratops, but Jiweis’s sudden leap caused the trident’s path to veer sharply downward.

Because of the incredible speed and proximity, the Green Crystal Triceratops wasn’t able to react in time, and the trident pierced through its own head.

“Just like that, an ascended creature is killed—how cool is that! Dragon Hunter Jiweis really has something special,” Lin Shen watched with great surprise.

However, he was also aware that while Jiweis was indeed strong, his clean and neat kill of the Green Crystal Triceratops wasn’t solely because of his strength. The planet’s environment exerted a strong negative influence on its native creatures; the Green Crystal Triceratops had not performed to its full ability, hence it was easily slain by Jiweis.

Just by judging the speed of the Green Crystal Triceratops, one could deduce that its speed was probably just over fifty; Lin Shen could see it clearly, unlike when facing Zheng Guyuan, where his eyes couldn’t keep up with the speed of his Life Base.

“What exactly is going on with this planet? Why do creatures born here not adapt to their own environment, only able to survive within Ring Mountain?” Lin Shen was full of doubts.

“Killed an Ascension-level Supersource Triceratops… Discovered a First Turn Spirit Base Supersource Trident…” The watch also displayed a prompt.

“Indeed, it’s just a First Turn Spirit Base.” Lin Shen had already learned some things about Ascension Levels from Tian Xin.

Life Bases condensed upon first reaching Ascension Level are at First Turn, and they can grow by devouring other creatures’ Life Bases. The maximum growth value is one hundred points.

Upon reaching one hundred points, one can attempt to ascend to the next level. However, one might also choose not to ascend, opting for a Life Base rebirth instead, resetting the growth value to zero, but this time with an upper limit of one hundred and ten points.

Once the growth value reaches the maximum again, another rebirth is an option, raising the growth value’s upper limit to one hundred and twenty points.

The more times one undergoes rebirth, the higher the upper limit, and the more powerful the Life Base. Nevertheless, with each rebirth, the difficulty of increasing the growth value also rises.

At First Turn, devouring any Spirit Base could increase the growth value by several points, but after a few turns, using a First Turn Spirit Base would hardly increase the growth value anymore.

It’s said the highest is Tenth Turn, and if a Tenth Turn Life Base maxes out its growth value, its power can be double that of a First Turn Life Base.

Lin Shen ran over and used a water bag to collect the Ascension Liquid from the Supersource Triceratops.

Lin Shen didn’t know if he could use Ascension Liquid himself, so he collected it first to ask Wei Wufu later.

“Having a few more Spirit Bases would be good too.” After tidying up, Lin Shen took Jiweis to other Ring Mountains to seek opportunities.

Knowing now that the creatures here were restricted outside Ring Mountain gave Lin Shen peace of mind.

As long as he stayed away from Ring Mountain, he should not be in too much danger.

While Lin Shen was looking for opportunities, something big happened on Realm King Planet.

A team of over a hundred Base Variants, while hunting Base Variant Creatures on Realm King Planet, encountered a large-scale Ultra-Burning Corps.

Thousands of Ultra-Burn Warriors surrounded the Mutator team; not a single one of more than a hundred Mutators escaped, all were killed.

Such incidents had occurred several times in a short period.

The major families had temporarily stopped their plans to enter Realm King Planet, as the safety of their own Mutators could not be guaranteed.

Unwilling to give up the resources on Realm King Planet, the major families were actively seeking solutions, with several families joining forces to form an elite team to attempt to wipe out the Ultra-Burning Corps.

After several attempts, humans and the Ultra-Burning Corps had their share of victories and defeats, with unsatisfactory results.

The Ouyang Family from God’s Love Base made contact with the major families, preparing for a large-scale joint operation.

Without completely resolving the issue of the Ultra-Burning Corps, the resources obtained couldn’t compensate for the losses.

Lin Shen was naturally unaware of these events as he continued searching for opportunities to hunt various Supersource Dragons on that planet.

In nearly a month’s time, Lin Shen, along with the Dragon Hunters, had only killed three Ascended Creatures, all First Turn Supersource Triceratops.

The main reason was that Lin Shen dared not touch those seemingly advanced Ascended Creatures, and he didn’t dare provoke the communal Ascended Creatures. He could only go after some solitary low-level Ascended Creatures, which slowed down the hunting speed significantly.

Only the Supersource Triceratops were more solitary and of a lower level, so they were the ones targeted.

As the countdown neared its end, Lin Shen packed up his belongings, waiting to return to his home planet.

“I hope that strange person isn’t lying in wait for me,” Lin Shen prayed silently.

Lin Shen had also considered that the strange person probably thought he was dead, so the chances of them waiting for him were not high.

However, just in case, Lin Shen still made thorough preparations.

The moment the countdown ended, the scenery before Lin Shen changed, and he was back in a familiar place.

Hiding behind the carcass of a Supersource Triceratops, Lin Shen immediately summoned his Dragon Hunter, Jiweis.

His dual guns fired in rapid succession, and one pet after another swiftly appeared around him.

Fortunately, there was no sign of the strange person, and Lin Shen finally breathed a sigh of relief.

“He’s really gone,” Lin Shen observed the sky—the sun hadn’t set yet, so he planned to sneak back to the base quietly at night.

First, he buried the bodies of the three Ascended Creatures, and after a difficult wait for the sun to set, Lin Shen quietly made his way back to Dark Bird Base and went to find Uncle Lei at the shop.

“Mr. Lin Shen, it’s so good to see you safe,” Lei said, almost bursting into tears when he saw Lin Shen.

These days, the people of the Lin Family were nearly going mad with worry. If anything had happened to Lin Shen, Lei didn’t know how he would explain it to Lin Miao.

“Uncle Lei, is that strange person still at our Dark Bird Base?” Lin Shen asked.

“No, after you left, the strange person departed as well and has not been seen since,” Lei replied.

After thinking for a moment, Lin Shen said, “Let’s keep the news of my return quiet for now. Also, there’s something else—I’ve hidden some things outside the base, and you’ll have to help me bring them back.”

“Where are they? I’ll take people there right now,” Lei said.

“Find a few trustworthy people, get some large vehicles and tarpaulins. We can’t let outsiders see them. Let’s go together,” Lin Shen instructed.

“Okay,” Lei agreed, somewhat puzzled, but he didn’t ask further.

When Lei saw the carcasses of the Supersource Triceratopses, he was instantly wide-eyed and asked incredulously, “Lin, did you hunt these Ascended Creatures?”
