Chapter 676: The Left Hand of the Pirate King
Some things, when heard directly from a Yonko, are completely different from mere rumors.
Big Mom had been famous for so many years, and she had personally witnessed many events. Ian figured that what she said about Kaido was likely true.
However, what puzzled Ian was whether the information Big Mom had promised to reveal about Kaido was really just this. If that were the case, it wouldn’t help at all in figuring out how to defeat him.
From Big Mom’s words, Ian could tell that she had fought Kaido before. But since the world said Kaido was the strongest in a one-on-one fight, it suggested that even Big Mom, with her own personal strength, couldn’t defeat him. However, since Big Mom had many pirates under her command, Kaido didn’t get the better of her either.
But if even Big Mom couldn’t defeat Kaido, then…
At that moment, Ian began to feel a little annoyed. He felt like he’d been tricked. If he had known that Big Mom’s information about Kaido was only this little, he wouldn’t have stayed around for it.
Just then, Big Mom continued, “Although Kaido has become stronger and harder to kill, my Big Mom Pirates have gathered a lot of information on him, and we finally discovered something important—who exactly caused that massive wound on Kaido’s abdomen!”
“Hmm!? Who was it?” Ian was stunned and quickly asked.
“Mama mama!” Big Mom laughed heartily and said, “That person—you’ve probably heard of him. His name is Scopper Gaban!”
As soon as they heard this name, not only were Lu Feld and the others shocked, but even Stussy, who had previously kept a calm expression, stood up in surprise. The entire crowd erupted in astonishment!“Sc-Scopper Gaban!?” Drug Peclo, the funeral king, began to sweat profusely under his iron mask, exclaiming, “The left hand of the Pirate King Roger!?”
When Ian heard this, he couldn’t help but shudder. At first, when Big Mom mentioned the name, he hadn’t quite understood. But as soon as he heard “the left hand of the Pirate King,” he immediately realized the significance!
Rayleigh, who had been living in seclusion on Sabaody Archipelago, was known as “the right hand of the Pirate King.” If there was a right hand, there had to be a left hand as well. In Roger’s pirate crew, Roger was, of course, the captain, with Rayleigh as his first mate. There had to be another key figure, likely someone like a chief strategist or crew leader, responsible for either tactical decisions or as a major combat force within the crew.
This is typically how a pirate crew is structured. Along with the captain, the three strongest members of the crew are often referred to as the “big three.” It’s similar to Ian’s Dragon Hunter Pirates—he’s the captain, the first and strongest. Uncle Fujitora is the first mate, second in command, and then there’s the third member. Originally, Ian had planned for Enel, his heavy hitter, to take on that role as the combat representative. However, with Crocodile now joining the crew, Enel’s position is a bit uncertain. This is because Crocodile’s intellect far exceeds his. So, Ian’s not entirely sure whether the third strongest member of his crew is now Enel or Crocodile.
In the case of Roger’s pirate crew, although Uncle Rayleigh was already incredibly strong, based on his personality, Ian suspects that he leaned more towards being the strategist type. Which means, following this logic, the “left hand” of the Pirate King, Scopper Gaban, was likely known for his combat prowess.
If Ian’s guess is correct, then what Big Mom said about the person who left that massive scar on Kaido’s abdomen being Scopper Gaban would make sense.
As the “left hand” of the Pirate King, Scopper Gaban’s name would naturally be legendary, especially among the older generation.
“I… I thought he was dead…” Lu Feld said, beads of cold sweat forming on his forehead.
Big Mom glanced at him and said, “How could such a famous figure die so easily? He’s merely in hiding, and it seems like he’s been living in seclusion in Wano. Kaido must have been injured by Scopper when he visited Wano in the past!”
At this point, Big Mom looked down at Ian and said, “Do you understand now? If you can find Scopper Gaban, the ‘left hand’ of the Pirate King, then you might be able to learn from him how he wounded Kaido. That scar on Kaido’s abdomen is the only injury on his body. Even with Kaido’s immense vitality, he hasn’t been able to heal it, and that could be the key to defeating him…”
Ian nodded, indicating that he understood. This was the information he had been truly seeking.
But just then, Big Mom suddenly shifted the conversation and, in a low voice, said to Ian, “Of course, Ian, if you marry Smoothie, the Big Mom Pirates and the Dragon Hunter Pirates can work together to take down Kaido. Even without Scopper Gaban, we could still defeat him, don’t you think?”
Ian chuckled, avoiding the topic, and instead looked over at Zeus and Prometheus beside him. Startled, he exclaimed, “Whoa! What happened to you two!?”
While listening to Big Mom speak earlier, Ian had been feeding them both energy from lightning and fire. As a result, Zeus and Prometheus had grown significantly larger, and their auras had become much more imposing.
This immediately drew Big Mom’s attention, and she angrily yelled at Zeus and Prometheus, “Idiots! Why are you two so greedy!?”
Zeus and Prometheus looked a little aggrieved but couldn’t stop themselves from licking their lips, saying, “But Mama, Ian’s energy is just so delicious…”
Big Mom sighed in exasperation and pointed at Ian, saying, “You’re something else! Stop feeding them! I don’t want them losing control and ruining the tea party venue!”
“Got it!” Ian nodded, reaching out to pat the soft, fluffy body of Zeus, causing sparks of electricity to flicker. As for Prometheus, Ian didn’t pat him, but it was clear both beings, imbued with Big Mom’s soul powers, were growing increasingly fond of him.
Just then, Judge Vinsmoke, accompanied by the Vinsmoke family, arrived. Smiling, he greeted, “Ah, Mama, apologies for the delay. We took a bit longer to change our clothes…”
Big Mom nodded and, without saying anything, looked around the venue. Seeing that most of the guests had arrived, she announced, “Let the wedding begin!”
Her children turned to start the preparations, but Ian was somewhat puzzled as he glanced over at Judge and his group. He hadn’t seen Reiju, so he couldn’t help but ask Judge about her.
In response, Judge shot Ian a furious glare and snorted coldly, crossing his arms and ignoring him.
This left Ian feeling a bit awkward. Fortunately, Reiju finally arrived, albeit fashionably late, entering the venue.
Her face looked a bit off, which made Ian feel uneasy. He initially thought about waving her over to sit with him, but after some hesitation, he stopped. Reiju instead walked directly to the Vinsmoke family’s table.
Once seated, Reiju cast a strange look in Ian’s direction.
Ian naturally noticed her gaze, but he couldn’t quite figure out what it meant, leaving him scratching his head in confusion.
After that one look at Ian, Reiju crossed her arms and began to wait. At this moment, she didn’t even glance at Stussy, remaining remarkably composed.
On the other hand, Stussy was feeling increasingly uneasy, her gaze becoming more and more restless.
At that moment, the wedding music finally began playing in the venue, and Big Mom let out a loud laugh, saying, “It’s finally happening!”
Then Capone Bege made his appearance. Dressed in a sharp white suit with a rose tucked into his chest pocket, a cigar hanging from his mouth, and a wide smile on his face, he strode confidently forward.
Beside him was Charlotte Chiffon, clad in a pure white wedding dress. The large, toothy-grinned woman held a bouquet in one hand and had her other arm wrapped around Bege’s. Though she looked a bit nervous and uneasy, there was undeniable happiness shining in her eyes.
The bride and groom walked together down the long red carpet, heading towards the floral archway at the front of the venue. As they stepped onto the carpet, countless flower petals were released into the air, surrounding them in a sea of flowers.
Witnessing this, all the guests stood and cheered to welcome the couple. Even Ian, who couldn’t help but feel a touch of envy, joined in with enthusiastic applause.
Ian knew full well that Capone Bege was genuinely in love with Charlotte Chiffon.
As Bege and Chiffon made their way forward, Bege maintained a bright, confident smile, nodding in acknowledgment to each of the guests. But when his eyes met Ian’s, a silent understanding passed between them—an unspoken message shared only by the two.
Everything was… ready!
