Chapter 180: Sink hole?
Store:
After buying the necessary items, three of them walked out of the store. The driver was standing there. Upon seeing them, he walked up to them.
"You youngsters, shall I take you to our street?" the driver asked.
Hearing that, Jeremy replied, "Okay!"
Then they entered the aircab and sat in their seats.
Swoosh!
Shortly afterward,
The driver started taking them towards his home street. It didn't take long for them to arrive at the driver's place. The driver landed the flying car in front of the stop.
Jeremy and the others stepped outside. Jeremy then asked the driver to continue his work after showing them the spot where rat beasts appeared for the first time.
The driver nodded his head. After parking his car, he guided them toward their area.
When they started walking on the street, the residents there startled upon seeing them because they recognized the Central University uniform. Not everyone can join Central University; only someone with good talent can attend this university.
So the locals were surprised. They even recognized the driver leading them. He was one of the locals here, so the curious residents came forward to inquire.
The driver then enthusiastically introduced each one of them. After learning that these people came forward to solve the rat beast problem, the locals were thrilled.
A few more people joined to show them the way. Betsy and Daniel were bewildered. They knew that the rat beasts were weak, but if they had numbers, they could pose a threat to the locals.
Soon, they arrived at a dilapidated building.
"Last time, we heard a loud noise coming from here in the middle of the night."
"When a few of us came to check, we found a Tier-2 rat beast. Fortunately, some of the locals are veteran beast tamers."
"They handled the rat beast properly and killed it in the end," the driver said.
Jeremy frowned. He began to ask a few questions. Then he found there was no problem with the underground sewage here. It was maintained on a weekly basis.
So the rat beasts appeared from another place. He knitted his eyebrows. If they didn't conduct the investigation properly, it might cause problems.
"Betsy and Daniel, you guys stay here. Don't allow anyone to get near the building," Jeremy said to them.
Betsy and Daniel were taken aback, but then they agreed to act. Jeremy then asked the driver and the other locals to leave as well.
In case rat beasts appeared, they might attack the locals.
Jeremy didn't act right away. When everyone had left, he informed the city administration as well. They would send people to monitor the crowd.
About ten minutes later,
"Alright, I'm going inside to investigate the place. Let's hope there's no danger hidden there," Jeremy said to them.
Daniel and Betsy exchanged looks.
"Brother, we want to come and take a look," Daniel Stone said.
Jeremy shook his head. He had a premonition that the place was dangerous.
"No!"
"Let me take a look first." After saying that, Jeremy walked toward the dilapidated building. He stepped over the broken bricks and debris.
He saw a half-broken massive entrance door. Jeremy then slammed the door with his fists.
Boom!
The broken door was blasted away. Then he walked inside the building.
Buzz!
Suddenly, Jeremy felt a vibration in his mental zone. The unknown beast egg was moving. It felt like another source of natural energy here.
Jeremy was shocked to the core. He knew what the reaction meant. There must be something inside the building that was attracting the unknown beast egg.
Swoosh!
Jeremy then took out his katana and held it in his right hand. Then he began to investigate the place.
Meanwhile,
Betsy and Daniel were keeping the locals at bay. From time to time, someone appeared and asked them questions. The locals had no clue about the danger.
They thought it was just another pest control. Daniel and Betsy were helpless. They didn't know what Jeremy was up to. But they had seen how serious he was after arriving at the place.
They thought Jeremy had found a clue but was not willing to share it with them.
Inside the building, Jeremy followed the unknown beast egg's movements. Wherever the vibration was stronger, he investigated the area.
When he came to the bathroom, he found a huge sinkhole.
Buzz!
The unknown beast egg was shaking more vigorously. Jeremy continued to stare at the huge sinkhole. The sinkhole could swallow a human adult whole.
He didn't know what to do. If not for the unknown beast egg's reaction, he would have ignored the sinkhole.
Now that he knew something was hidden here, he wanted to explore it.
"Should I explore it?" Jeremy asked himself.
He could enter the sinkhole to investigate it, but if he encountered danger, it would be a problem. He wouldn't have space to retaliate.
After contemplating, he decided that if the unknown beast egg was reacting strongly, he wanted to see what was causing it.
He then jumped down. His body descended below the sinkhole. At the same time, a terrible smell assaulted his nostrils.
"Corrupted rat beasts," Jeremy's eyes flickered.
He couldn't be more familiar with the disgusting smell.
"So this is the place where the rat beasts come out from," Jeremy said to himself.
A few seconds later,
Tud!
He touched down on the ground. The whole place was dark. Jeremy took out his gadget and activated it. The next second, it lit up and illuminated the area.
"This?" A trace of disbelief appeared in Jeremy's eyes.
He was looking at an underground passage dug up by the rat beasts. He couldn't even see the end of the passage; it was going somewhere.
A look of realization dawned on Jeremy's face. He had found the important place where rat beasts emerged in large numbers.
Screech!
The next second, a noise disturbed him. He thought the light had alarmed the beasts hidden in the passage. But he was not afraid.
He was ready to face them.
Screech!
A number of rat beasts appeared in front of him, coming from the deep passage. Jeremy judged their strength; they ranged from Tier-1 to Tier-2.
His eyebrows eased down.
Swoosh!
The next second, the rat beasts charged toward the intruder to kill him. In the blink of an eye, the rat beasts got closer.
Cut!
Jeremy moved from his spot. The katana in his hand danced like a whirlwind before cutting down the rat beasts.
Pfff!
As he continued to move forward, he left behind the mutilated corpses of the rat beasts.
Slice!
The katana blade flashed before taking the lives of the rat beasts in the blink of an eye.
About ten minutes later,
Jeremy had cleared out the rat beasts that had come after him, but he still didn't go deeper. He stood in the middle of the mutilated corpses and pools of rat blood.
The disgusting smell was unbearable, but he was almost used to it.
Buzz!
The unknown egg inside his mental zone began to shake again.
Jeremy's expression changed drastically. He had forgotten that there was something down there attracting his lifeline beast.
The depth of the passage was pitch black. The passage was larger and wider than the underground sewers. He was sure that the passage was beneath the residential buildings.
He couldn't imagine how far the passage extended.
After collecting his thoughts, he checked the signal.
Seeing that a signal was available as he was standing below the sinkhole, he decided to inform Betsy and Daniel before going deeper inside the passage.
Instead of calling them, he started typing a text message.
He then sent it to them a minute later.
"Now it's time to check this sh!t passage," Jeremy muttered.
Then he put on his night goggles, combat suit, gloves, and boots before starting to walk toward the depth of the passage.
From his night vision, he could see that the passage ahead was clear. There were no more rat beasts, but he thought he would encounter one if he went deeper.
Jeremy began to think there must be other sinkholes in different parts of the city. That's why the rat beasts were not coming out at the same time.
Outside,
"Brother Jeremy has sent a message," Daniel said.
Hearing that, Betsy, who was controlling the crowd, checked her notifications.
"I got one as well," Betsy replied.
She had received the message too. Then both of them read the message. Their expressions changed drastically.
"Sh!t!"
"We stumbled across an important hideout right away," Daniel Stone commented.
"It's a huge discovery," Betsy Lowe said in a grave tone.
They had come here to investigate on a whim. Earlier, they were eager to help the driver and then thought about collecting some clues as well.
But Jeremy had directly found the source.
"No wonder Brother Jeremy was serious earlier. He didn't ask us to follow him for this exact reason," Daniel said with a sigh.
Betsy Lowe was shocked and puzzled. She didn't know how Jeremy Night had figured it out.
