Chapter 889 Mountain Cultivation (Part 1)
The night in the forest was particularly tough.
That night, Wang Chen never truly fell asleep; he oscillated between wakefulness and grogginess, remaining vigilant throughout.
Although his pursuers didn't show up, the vast mountains hid many wild beasts, which left their nests to hunt for food as night fell.
Perched in a tree, Wang Chen could hear the intermittent roars of beasts, from various directions and distances.
And by midnight, something passed under the tree, but due to the poor lighting, he couldn't see it clearly.
Under such circumstances, how could Wang Chen fall asleep soundly?
It wasn't until the next morning, when the first ray of sunlight shone through the gaps in the canopy and onto the forest floor, that Wang Chen climbed down from the tree and, determining the general direction, continued on his way.
Now, he urgently needed to find a relatively safe location to increase his cultivation level.
Only with the ability to protect himself could he consider his next move.
As for what to do next, Wang Chen hadn't decided yet.
He would take things one step at a time!
"Swish!"
The dagger flew instantly across a dozen steps, striking right into the head of a colorful snake, pinning it to the trunk.
Wang Chen walked over, grabbed the snake firmly behind its head, and then pulled out the dagger.
His food had run out two days ago; thus, he had to rely on hunting to fend off hunger. This arm-thick colorful snake was neither the first nor the last to be unlucky.
It was just bad luck for the snake to cross paths with Wang Chen and instantly become a ghost under his knife.
Wang Chen quickly skinned the snake, disposed of the innards, and kept only the shiny white snake meat.
Technically, the snake gallbladder could be consumed, but he didn't want to take the risk. Holding the dagger in one hand and the snake meat in the other, he continued forward.
Soon, Wang Chen found a small stream in the forest.
The vegetation here was extremely lush, and the air very humid, indicating an abundance of water vapor. He had encountered similar streams more than once.
Then Wang Chen followed the stream upstream.
He remained highly alert along the way because such streams were often drinking spots for wild animals.
Wild animals weren't to be feared, as long as they didn't come in packs; Wang Chen was confident in dealing with them if encountered.
But exotic beasts were a different story!
Exotic beasts were mutated wild animals, some immensely strong, some with extreme defenses, some could fly or burrow, and others could spit fire or poison. In short, they weren't creatures to mess with lightly.
Powerful exotic beasts could even contend with high-tier martial artists!
As a mere tier 1 martial apprentice, Wang Chen would stand no chance against even the weakest exotic beast.
However, his luck held up, and he reached the source of the stream without encountering any vicious or powerful beasts.
Instead, he startled a few deer that had come to drink.
The stream ended in a small valley with a waterfall tens of feet high, cascading down from between the mountains. The splashing water formed a deep pool—it was a place Wang Chen knew and loved!
The sight before him brought a joyful smile to his face.
The environment here was excellent, with a higher concentration of nature's spiritual energy than in the forest, not to mention clean water. It was the perfect temporary haven and cultivation spot.
As Wang Chen approached the pool, suddenly, with a splash, a large fish jumped out of the water.
Its silver scales glistened under the sunlight.
And there were fish too!
Wang Chen was even happier.
He washed the snake meat in the water, then gathered some dry grass and twigs from nearby, and started preparing to cook.
Wang Chen didn't have a flint, but for him, making fire with wood was an easy task.
Soon, a wisp of blue smoke rose from beside the pond.
Wang Chen skewered the snake meat on a green bark branch and grilled it.
His first episode in this realm had been about fleeing, and the second was about wilderness survival.
The snow-white snake meat sizzled under the flames, oozing shiny snake oil, its surface beginning to turn golden brown, and a strange fragrance wafted through the air.
It further triggered Wang Chen's cravings.
After the flower snake was beheaded, skinned, and gutted, it weighed almost two jin. Once cooked, Wang Chen wolfed it down, devouring it entirely.
After drinking a handful of the sweet and refreshing pond water, Wang Chen patted his stomach, still not fully satisfied.
He felt like he could eat even more.
At this moment, Wang Chen could finally strip off his filthy clothes and immerse himself in the pond water.
He took a satisfying bath.
He also washed his outer and underclothes, wringing them dry and hanging them on a nearby rock.
Accidentally, Wang Chen saw his own reflection on the water's surface.
He was a bit stunned.
The face was young, with a trace of immature tenderness and frailty, yet sharply defined and extremely handsome, to a degree that Wang Chen himself could hardly believe!
He couldn't help but recall Ling Zhiyuan's memories.
Originally, Ling Zhiyuan's mother had been the beauty of Anyang city, sadly doomed to a short life.
Since childhood, Ling Zhiyuan had inherited his mother's looks and his father's good traits, and thus had always been praised for his appearance.
A real little handsome guy!
Wang Chen's previous life had been ordinary, and although not ugly, he was far from handsome.
His soul had transmigrated to the Mountain and Sea Realm, and his new appearance wasn't much to speak of, then he had arrived in the Foggy Mountain Realm, occupying an equally ordinary body.
In his past and present lives, this was the first time Wang Chen had been handsome.
He couldn't help but touch his face, feeling somewhat strange.
However, whether he was handsome or not had no impact on Wang Chen's current situation, and he quickly put that aside, looking for a place to stay nearby.
If he couldn't find one, he would have to build a small hut to live in.
But luck was once again on Wang Chen's side; not far from the pond, he discovered a natural cave.
The entrance was only five feet high, requiring one to bend down to enter, but the space inside was quite spacious and very deep.
Since he didn't have suitable tools, Wang Chen only explored near the entrance and didn't find any wild animals or poisonous snakes.
He just saw some bats and hanging stalactites.
As for how deep the cave was or where it led, Wang Chen didn't want to explore just yet.
But he could be sure that this cave was not a dead end, as cool, circulating air blew out from it.
It is worth mentioning that the cave had a richer concentration of nature's spiritual energy than outside.
But it was still far from the standard required for cultivation.
Given the different physical constitution of this body, Wang Chen didn't think about cultivating techniques.
Advancing the Mysterious Sun Haven Seven Fiend Wheel to a higher realm was the right path!
[Potential +1]
Suddenly, a message popped up in his vision.
Wang Chen was momentarily stunned.
Potential points should correspond to Heavenly Merit Human Virtue, and in the Foggy Mountain Realm, it was represented by Qi-Blood, and both merit and Qi-Blood could only be gained through killing!
Why would this potential value increase for no reason?

The second update is here.
