Chapter 9: Chapter 9: Republic of China Year 3, Trial Strike Coins, Genuine!
"Fake?"
Lin Xiao smiled and replied, "I think it's real."
The vendor: "…"
This young man looked handsome, but his brain clearly wasn't working.
Shaking his head, the vendor didn't bother saying anything more.
He had been running a stall for many years, and he'd seen plenty of Lin Xiao's type.
They thought they were getting a great deal, but they were just falling into someone else's trap.
The worst part was, they were so confident—no one could convince them otherwise.
The vendor was sure that in a little while, Lin Xiao would rush off to the nearest shop for an appraisal, and then he'd realize the truth.
Sure enough, Lin Xiao pulled out his phone and dialed a number.
"Boss Xu, do you want the Yuan Datou?"
"You want them? Alright, I'll be over."
After hanging up, Lin Xiao headed straight toward the Baibaoge (Treasure Pavilion) shop.
Several nearby vendors were shaking their heads.
"This kid really thinks he can get lucky?"
"He can't even see such an obvious setup, and he still wants to find treasure?"
The vendors exchanged looks, their eyes filled with the kind of sympathy people reserve for someone who doesn't know any better.
Lin Xiao's response was so predictable.
He thought he was getting a great deal, and after buying the genuine Yuan Datou coins, he was rushing off to get them appraised.
When he finds out they're fake, he's going to be stunned.
35,000 Yuan!
Each vendor felt like they'd missed out on an easy opportunity to make a fortune.
...
"Boss Lin, are you serious?"
"These Yuan coins can't all be real, right?"
"Wasn't that an obvious setup earlier?"
The viewers were anxiously asking.
Lin Xiao casually picked up one of the coins and said, "This is from the Tianjin Mint's trial strike series, from Republic of China Year 3. I know a bit about coins, so I don't think I'm mistaken."
He was being a bit modest.
"So, it's real?"
"I'm just curious, how much is this one worth?"
"His price isn't cheap either, 5,000 Yuan for one. Even if it's real, it won't be worth much, right?"
Lin Xiao chuckled, "Don't rush. You'll find out once we get to the shop."
A few minutes later, he entered Baibaoge.
After receiving Lin Xiao's call, Xu Rushan was already waiting in the shop. He knew a thing or two about Yuan Datou.
To determine whether they were real or not, you could usually tell by just handling them and inspecting the details.
He was curious—where did Lin Xiao get these from?
How long had it been?
It hadn't been half an hour since Lin Xiao left.
"Boss Xu."
Lin Xiao entered without ceremony, sat down, and placed the seven Yuan Datou on the table.
"I'll let you appraise them first."
Xu Rushan sat down, picked up one of the coins, and began inspecting it.
Lin Xiao glanced around and asked, "Has Boss Feng gone back?"
"He's gone." Xu Rushan answered, not even lifting his head, still examining the coin in his hand. He adjusted his glasses and began appraising.
After just a quick glance, he felt his heart drop.
As someone who dealt with antiques for a living, he could generally tell whether something was real or fake just by holding it.
This coin was most likely real.
After about three minutes, Xu Rushan set the coin aside and picked up the second one.
He repeated the process, inspecting each coin for about three minutes.
He could have been faster, but to be thorough, he examined every detail.
After around twenty minutes, Lin Xiao had already finished several cups of tea when Xu Rushan finally finished the last coin.
Lin Xiao asked calmly, "So, what do you think?"
The viewers were on edge, waiting for an answer.
Xu Rushan took off his glasses and nodded. "Genuine."
"Damn!"
"It's really real!"
"Boss Lin's eyes are sharp!"
"Is this the legendary treasure-hunting pro?"
"If Boss Lin had been born a few decades earlier, he probably would've made a fortune from picking treasures—he could've even bought a few traditional courtyards in Beijing!"
Xu Rushan's confirmation made the viewers admire Lin Xiao even more.
The antique market today was nothing like it used to be. In the past, there were plenty of genuine items.
And even back then, even if something was genuine, it didn't necessarily hold much value.
Now, it was a different story.
Especially in today's antique market, where counterfeit modern coins were rampant, even museum staff could be fooled.
Finding a genuine coin among a sea of fakes was as hard as reaching the sky.
But Lin Xiao, in just one morning, had already found two genuine items!
Lin Xiao nodded. Boss Xu did have some skill.
If he couldn't even tell the difference between real and fake, after this, Lin Xiao would have to consider finding another place to sell his treasures.
