Chapter 263: Chapter 260
"Whoosh..."
On the Whispering River, a dozen or so medium to large ships were slowly making their way forward. This was Dahlia's fleet.
"Dahlia, how much longer until we reach Sedona City?" Catherine called out, a bit frustrated. Anyone who spends more than a month on a ship would feel bored.
"Dahlia, I really don't understand why you wanted to go to Sedona City with me." Dahlia replied, confused.
She had never expected that Catherine would insist on coming along to Sedona City when they left that day.
"Of course, it's because of the amazing things in Uncle Joe's letter! That super delicious bun and the Drunken Night Restaurant, which is supposed to have all the best foods in the world. I want to see if Uncle Joe is just bragging!" Catherine said enthusiastically.
"Alright, I guess that's the reason," Dahlia said, rolling her eyes with a helpless expression. "But you came, and you brought a whole group of people with you."
On the deck, there were more than a dozen young men, all sons of various noble families, claiming that they were accompanying her to relax.
"Uh..." Catherine was speechless and turned her head to glance at the group of men nearby, all of whom were trying hard to show off.
"I just accidentally let it slip! Who knew they would all follow us?" Catherine shrugged and flicked her blue hair, sighing. "I told my father at home that I wanted to go out and have some fun with you, but my brother was secretly listening in. And now, here we are, with all your admirers showing up."
Luckily, her brother hadn't come along; otherwise, she feared her father would have sent someone to drag her back.
"..." Dahlia stared blankly at Catherine, who looked so innocent, and grumbled, "There are still some of your admirers inside."
"You mean Jesse? He's just someone sent to spy on me." Catherine gritted her teeth and said angrily, "That damn fatso really can't take a hint. He even sent me two bottles of perfume, which is so frustrating."
The reason Catherine's father allowed her to travel to Sedona City with Dahlia was mainly to avoid the Fourth Prince.
"Perfume? The kind that's a total rip-off, lasting only ten days?" Dahlia's tone was a bit unkind, as her father had also been scammed for a lot of money.
"Exactly!" Catherine shrugged. "Only people who haven't bathed for months would use perfume. And the fact that the shelf life is only a ridiculous ten days? Ridiculous!"
Over the years of selling perfumes, many nobles had come to understand the drawbacks, and many of them stopped buying it.
"I heard the person behind the perfume is the Fourth Prince?" Dahlia lowered her voice and asked.
"Yes! That damn fatso. Otherwise, how could he have the power to compete with the First and Second Princes?" Catherine sighed.
She had heard from her father that the Fourth Prince had made a fortune from selling perfume and used the gold to win over many nobles.
Moreover, he intended to use the profits from the perfume to secure support from her father, who was a duke.
"No wonder..." Dahlia shook her head with a cold smile. It made sense why the nobles who realized something was wrong with the perfume didn't dare to cause trouble for it. After all, the Fourth Prince was behind it. It was almost ironically absurd.
"Dahlia, I'll give you a bottle of perfume," Catherine chuckled. "You should use it these days; it's a waste if you leave it unused."
"I'll pass. Keep it for yourself. I don't really like that overpowering scent," Dahlia declined.
This perfume, if unopened, could last longer, especially in the cold winter. But once opened, it would start to produce a strange odor within about ten days.
"I don't like it much either!" Catherine tossed her blue hair and said mischievously, "I'm thinking about how to sell it."
"Huh? Aren't you afraid that person will say something?" Dahlia asked, surprised.
"Why should I be afraid? I told him I didn't want it, and he still forced it on me," Catherine replied with frustration. "I'll just sell the perfume, right here in Sedona City, six gold coins a bottle. Someone will definitely want it."
"You plan to sell the perfume and use the gold to buy a lute, right?" Dahlia immediately saw through Catherine's plan.
"Ugh..." Catherine rolled her eyes in exasperation, angrily muttering, "Dahlia, did you know some people say you're really annoying?"
"Who? Princess Lucy?" Dahlia blinked her green eyes and said indifferently, "Her novels are unrealistic, all based on her own fantasies. She's a princess, how would she know what the life of an ordinary noble girl is like..."
"She's a complete romance fool, never even held a man's hand, yet she writes all this nonsense, and somehow, people actually take it seriously."
Catherine tugged at her lips. The moment Dahlia started talking about Princess Lucy, she completely transformed from a graceful lady into a girl who loved to vent her frustrations.
"Alright, it's not Princess Lucy who said you're annoying," Catherine interrupted. "And also, you're the same—never been in a relationship either."
Huff... Dahlia froze for a moment, let out a long sigh, flicked her red hair, and said coolly, "Is it that little one?"
"Bingo! You got it right!" Catherine raised an eyebrow. "She said you're just too smart, and that if she did business with you, she'd never make a profit."
"Her family was never meant for business." Dahlia smirked.
"Uh... you're really blunt!" Catherine rolled her eyes. "She's still one of the five most famous women in the capital!"
"As a dwarf, she's already outstanding, but..." Dahlia shrugged.
"Yes, yes... but just not cut out for business, huh?" Catherine laughed and continued, "Couldn't you be a little more tactful? Last time you said that, she closed her shop for three days, and the hunters were going crazy trying to find her."
"...?" Dahlia paused, then turned her head, looking out over the riverbanks.
"Oh, now you're embarrassed? Are you feeling guilty?" Catherine raised an eyebrow, teasing her.
"Impossible, I'm just speaking the truth," Dahlia said, pouting.
This scene made Catherine chuckle quietly, but soon she slumped down on the table, exhausted. "Dahlia, how many more days until we reach Sedona City? My body feels like it's falling apart."
"Probably another four or five days," Dahlia sighed, feeling the same restlessness.
The cabin was too damp, with a moldy smell, and it was freezing. She feared that if this went on, she'd definitely get sick.
"I really hope Sedona City is like what Uncle Joe said. If it is, I'll stay there for a whole year."
Catherine clasped her hands together, her eyes filled with longing. "It would be perfect if a knight on a white horse came and proposed to me romantically."
"Stop dreaming, that's never going to happen," Dahlia froze for a moment, narrowing her eyes. "Has Princess Lucy released a new work?"
"Huh? How did you know?" Catherine asked, surprised.
"The title?" Dahlia asked, raising an eyebrow.
"'The White Horse Knight's Proposal'!"
"Such a cheesy title..."
