Starting by Getting a Wife? It Turns Out She Is a Skilled Assassin

Chapter 434

Chapter 434: Nong Yu’s Confusion

With so many people around, even if Li Mo tried to spread the love evenly, there would inevitably be a sense of priority.

Last night, he returned during the wee hours, leaving him short on time.

He initially planned to stay the night at Jing Ni’s place, but Xiao Yan’er stayed up all night long.

At such a late hour, he felt embarrassed to carry her over to Duanmu Rong’s place.

After some thought, Jing Ni decided to give him the boot,

so as not to tempt him with idle chatter and mischief.

As for where he ended up, that was none of her concern!

The next morning,

a graceful figure approached the most secluded courtyard within the Mountain Courtyard with a lively gait.

Before she reached the door, she spotted a familiar silhouette coming out of the courtyard.

“Sir?”

Nong Yu instantly halted in her tracks, surprised as she watched Li Mo’s departing back.

“Why is Sir back at Mother’s place so early?”

She intended to greet him, but his speed was too swift.

In the blink of an eye, the man had disappeared from sight.

“How strange.”

Nong Yu tapped her finger on her chin, puzzled.

Li Mo hadn’t gone to her place or Sister Zi’s;

it was clear he must have stayed with Jing Ni.

Everyone acknowledged Jing Ni’s standing, and no one minded if he stayed there.

Nong Yu had come to this conclusion out of habit, so she didn’t think much of it when she saw Li Mo leave that courtyard.

Pushing open the door, she found Lady Hu at the vanity, combing her hair.

“Yu’er, you’ve come!”

She caught a glimpse of Nong Yu’s reflection in the copper mirror.

Nong Yu got straight to the point, “Sister Zi sent me to tell you that today is a break; no need to go there for account settling.”

“I understand.”

Lady Hu appeared unfazed, as if she had already anticipated this.

With Li Mo returning last night, it was normal for everyone to take a day off to relax.

“By the way, Mother, I think I just saw Sir coming out from here. Did he visit?”

After conveying Sister Zi’s message, Nong Yu sat down beside Lady Hu, showing no intention of leaving.

Lady Hu’s hands paused momentarily while combing her hair, then she gave a dismissive “Mm.”

Nong Yu pressed on, “What did he come to talk to you about?”

Lady Hu pursed her lips and finally said, “He asked if there are any prophecies related to human fortunes in the Ba Yue.”

Nong Yu’s eyes lit up in realization: “I see, seems like Sir is quite invested in that Uya affair.”

Lady Hu turned to give her a sharp glance, “You know Sir’s character; Uya helped him when he was in Loulan, of course, he can’t just stand by and do nothing.”

Nong Yu nodded eagerly, “Yes, yes! He was the same with us! Thanks to Sir, we could reunite!”

Suddenly, she stretched out her hand and touched Lady Hu’s face.

“What are you doing?”

Lady Hu instinctively pulled back.

Nong Yu gazed at her glowing, rosy complexion, praising, “Mother, you look wonderful today!”

Lady Hu blinked, then burst into a chuckle, “Well rested, so naturally, I look good!”

In another courtyard,

Li Mo watched as Duanmu Rong withdrew her fingers from Uya’s wrist and gently asked, “Miss Duanmu, how is her condition?”

Duanmu Rong’s brows knitted tightly; the situation was evidently not optimistic.

For her to show such an expression, the ailment must be quite rare.

“She has a strange energy within her that is slowly eating away at her vitality. Logically, she should be unconscious by now.”

She glanced at Uya, who despite her pale complexion, was still full of life, puzzled.

Uya quickly explained, “It’s something given to me by the Lord of the Divine; having it on me alleviates the ailment.”

Duanmu Rong then understood, “I see. That thing alleviates your suffering, but it won’t heal you. You probably have…?”

“Two months left, right?”

Uya finished her unfinished thought.

She had known this for quite some time.

“Indeed.”

Seeing Uya’s calm demeanor, which surpassed her expectations, Duanmu Rong decided to be direct.

“The energy inside you is very strange and extremely ominous. As time passes, you’ll suffer more and more, and within a month, even what you’re currently carrying won’t be able to ease your pain.”

Uya looked at her and asked, “So, will I die?”

“Yes.”

“Will I definitely die?”

Duanmu Rong affirmed, “You definitely will.”

Yet, at that moment, Uya suddenly felt relieved, “That’s good.”

“Huh?”

Both Li Mo and Duanmu Rong were taken aback by her statement.

How could she sound pleased upon knowing she was going to die?

Uya smiled brightly, explaining, “Dying is better than losing my mind and becoming something that is neither human nor ghost, right?”

She wasn’t afraid of death; rather, she dreaded being overtaken by that ominous energy and turning into the likes of Chiyou from three thousand years ago.

“Miss Duanmu, do you have a way to ease her suffering when that time comes?”

Li Mo recalled how Uya had behaved when the ominous energy surged;

that was just the early, milder symptoms, yet the pain was unbearable.

Duanmu Rong pondered for a moment before replying, “I do!”

Thump!
