Chapter 33
Chapter 33 – The Speculation of the Jade Tiger, Could it be the Handiwork of the Luo Network’s?
The next day, when the sun was high, Jing Ni yawned and woke up from her dreams.
Closing her eyes, she felt around and indeed Li Mo was no longer there.
A smile appeared at the corner of Jing Ni’s mouth.
Since marrying Li Mo, she had become less and less like herself.
For an assassin, sleeping too much was a fatal mistake!
When she was still an assassin, she never indulged in sleep, even the slightest sound of a rustling leaf would wake her up.
How could she be like this now, not knowing when Li Mo woke up.
After much thought, Jing Ni felt on one hand that life was too comfortable. On the other hand… she could only blame being too tired every night!
As a martial artist, how could she not even be able to match up to her husband, who was just an ordinary person? It was truly a big mistake!
Every time Li Mo was lively and energetic, Jing Ni increasingly felt overwhelmed. She felt it was necessary to find a concubine for Li Mo to share her burden with!
She could endure it during normal times, but what if her monthly cycle came? What if she became pregnant and couldn’t serve him anymore?
Seeing him full of energy every day, she worried he might be deceived by those shady women from Purple Orchid Pavilion one day. How could a blind man like him tell who was clean or not?
It would be too late once he found out after getting involved!
As the sun was setting, Li Mo, who had been with Jing Ni all day at home, finally left as usual. When he reached the city center, he could clearly sense that there were many more soldiers patrolling the city today than yesterday.
Nightfall was an organization under Ji Wuye, and with the deaths of the Moonlit Man in Straw and the three Hundred Bird Assassins last night, he could imagine the extent of his anger.
(TN: Moonlit Man in Straw was mentioned in Chapter 17 with the name Yuexia Suoyike; I just realized it now.)
Li Mo, who was walking slowly with his bamboo stick on the street, did not raise any suspicion from the patrolling soldiers. After all, who would have thought that one of the Nightfall Four Evils, the Moonlit Man in Straw, and so many assassins would die by the hand of a blind man?
At the General’s Mansion…
Ji Wuye listened to his subordinates’ reports with a dark expression. The wine bottle in his hand was crushed into a lump, and the anger in his eyes was almost ready to burst out. The deaths of the Moonlit Man in Straw and the three Hundred Bird Assassins were a heavy blow to Ji Wuye.
While assassins could be trained again after they died, the Moonlit Man in Straw was in charge of Han Empire’s intelligence organization.
He was like his eyes and ears. When he died, it was as if he had lost his vision and hearing, worse than a blind man!
Some intelligence personnel were in contact with the Moonlit Man in Straw, and even he didn’t know the way they communicated.
So all the secret moves they had placed in various countries were wasted. The blow to Ji Wuye can be imagined!
“How is the investigation going? Who did it?”
Ji Wuye asked through gritted teeth. He didn’t believe that only the ragtag group of Baiyue could kill so many people!
Among the Four Evils of Yemu, besides Bai Yifei, the Moonlit Man in Straw had the best skills!
Shiji Jingling couldn’t possibly kill him!
“There is news that Wei Zhuang was seen there last night,” answered one of Ji Wuye’s subordinates, a middle-aged man with a fat figure.
The Jade Tiger, one of the Four Evils.
Ji Wuye’s brows twitched slightly. “Wei Zhuang? Hmph! I didn’t come looking for trouble with him, but he dared to provoke this General!”
“Order to arrest Wei Zhuang and a reward of one hundred gold coins for anyone who finds his whereabouts!”
The Jade Tiger bowed and added, “But it’s a bit strange. Wei Zhuang used a sword, but there were no sword wounds on the Moonlit Man in Straw or those assassins. They were all struck with a single fatal blow to vital points. On the other hand…”
Ji Wuye glared, shouting, “On the other hand what? Speak!”
The Jade Tiger shook his body fat and continued, “It was a few people from Vulture team outside the city, who died by the sword.”
“Their methods were fierce. From the wounds, it can be seen that the swordsman was quick, accurate, and ruthless, aiming for a single killing blow!”
Ji Wuye pondered, “It’s strange. Besides Wei Zhuang, are there any other swordsmen around Han Empire who are skilled in swordsmanship?”
The Jade Tiger shook his head, “That person doesn’t seem like an ordinary swordsman, but more like someone born to kill. Could it be a hired assassin of theirs?”
From the wounds, it could be deduced that the swordsman had no extra moves. Each sword strike was aimed to kill.
This method was somewhat similar to assassins like the Hundred Birds. In fact, the opponent’s methods were even more professional than theirs!
A gleam of light flashed in Ji Wuye’s eyes, “It’s not impossible. Investigate thoroughly, spare no effort, and use all means to identify the person from the sword moves of the opponent.”
The Jade Tiger casually remarked, “Among the seven countries, who dares to make a move against my Hundred Birds with such strength, apart from the Luo Network of the Qin Empire, there are not many left.”
Ji Wuye suddenly looked up, “Are you suggesting Lu Buwei?”
He pondered for a long time, rubbing his fingers, “Lu Buwei is hard to predict. Although he seems to have connections with us on the surface, we must never let our guard down against him.”
“But if it really is him, what is his purpose in helping the Baiyue? What game is that old guy playing?”
The plump Jade Tiger rubbed his nose and turned his green pea-like eyeballs, “Why don’t you ask him?”
Ji Wuye shook her head: “Without solid evidence, asking is useless. Let’s investigate first. If it really was the net killer who did it, I want to see how that old man explains it to me!”
