Chapter 102: Dog Days
The rumbles of a cart reverberated through Kiba's groggy mind as he slowly regained consciousness.
The damp, musty air clung to his weakened body, making him acutely aware of his strange situation. It wasn't time to rest!
With a head throbbing with pain, Kiba struggled to sit up, a surge of confusion washing over him, "Damn, what is happening..."
Kiba's eyes squinted, piercing through the darkness, revealing his grim reality.
He found himself confined within a cage, his arms and legs shackled by chains that held him in place!
"Where the heck is this?" Kiba tugged on the chain, but with his weakened body, breaking free was out of the question...
Of course, that is if he is alone.
Sniffing the air, Kiba caught a familiar scent nearby. Relief coursed through him as he called out to his faithful companion, "Akamaru?"
Only to be met with silence.
Panic tinged his voice as he called out once more, "Oi! Akamaru? Bark if you are okay!"
Kiba was desperate for any sign of his beloved partner, but the absence of a response gnawed at his heart, filling him with worry. "Damn it. Must be out. Guess I'm alone."
Understanding he had to rely on himself in this dire situation, Kiba began checking himself for options, only for another overwhelming bad news to strike him like a lightning bolt - his chakra was sealed, leaving him more powerless and vulnerable than ever before!
"Damn! Which jerk did this!" The weight of his predicament bore down on him heavily, exacerbating his frustration.
After suppressing his frustrations, Kiba stared at the cage, gritting his teeth, "I don't know what's going on, but a wall's a wall and there's no wall I can't punch a hole through!"
Well, there wasn't any other options at the moment.
Kiba summoned what little strength remained within his drug-induced body. Focusing his energy, he punched out at the bar, attempting to break the cage- thud!
Only to be met with disappointment. He wasn't Rock Lee. So, the cage stayed rock hard.
Feeling the strength drain from his body, Kiba slumped back against the cold, unforgiving bars of his cage, leaking a defeated sigh, "Guess I can't go wild this time..."
Despair gnawed at his spirit as he wondered how he had ended up in this dire situation.
He recalled he was about to become spider chow, but lord and behold, he was still alive, but... his current situation wasn't any better.
Now, the question was - who had orchestrated his capture? And most importantly, where was Kurenai sensei?
Lost in thought, time rolled forward.
When the cart eventually came to a halt, Kiba's senses heightened, alert to any sign of hope or danger.
Muffled voices drifted through the darkness, their words indiscernible but filled with an underlying sense of urgency.
Kacha! The door creaked open, and a faint sliver of moonlight seeped in.
When the pale light bathed the surroundings, Kiba's eyes scanned his prison, taking in the sight of other cages scattered around him.
Within them, children of various ages lay unconscious or huddled together, their expressions a mix of fear and confusion.
The reality of the situation crashed down upon him, and a wave of anger swelled within his chest. "These bastards..."
Though he was angry, he was equally as helpless. So, Kiba's eyes moved on, searching the rest of the cart.
Soon, his eyes fell upon Akamaru's smaller cage, and his heart skipped a beat.
His loyal companion lay motionless, oblivious to the wretched events that they had landed in.
"Damn it!" Kiba's hushed voice squeezed through his gritted teeth. "I must be a pretty pathetic owner to let you end up like this, Akamaru. But, I won't let them keep us trapped like this. I'll find a way out, I promise."
The other children barely stirred at the sound of Kiba's voice, their eyes darting toward him with a mix of dullness and despair, yet a glimmer of hope shone in their eyes.
Kiba's resolve hardened when he recognized the glimmers of resilience within their frightened faces. He will not allow despair to engulf their spirits!
Gathering his strength, Kiba struggled to his feet, staring at the opened door. Their captors entered, a portly man accompanied by his henchmen.
A mix of anger and disgust surged within his heart, fueled by the knowledge of the atrocities these men committed.
Leaking a low growl, Kiba glared at the fat man and his muscular minions as they approached the cages. Yet, the weight of his helplessness bore down on him, amplifying his frustration.
"What do we have here?" the fat man sneered, his voice dripping with malice. "A feisty little pup, aren't you?"
Kiba's voice trembled with restrained fury as he responded, "You're going to regret this, you scum! You can't keep us locked up like this forever!"
His words barely finished when one of the minions delivered a heavy blow to Kiba's head with a vicious swing of his stick! Pa! "Learn your place, brat! Now, stay down!"
Pa! Pain exploded through Kiba's skull, sending a cascade of stars dancing before his eyes. Weak and bloodied, he collapsed against the bars of his cage, gritting his teeth against the pain, unable to do anything else...
Watching the slave traders efficiently unload the cages one by one, Kiba's heart sank.
The captives were soon ushered out of the cart and into a large building through a secret back entrance, each step bringing them deeper into the clutches of an insidious underworld.
Soon, they found themselves in the bowels of an underground dungeon. The flickering torchlight cast eerie shadows across the damp walls, adding to the sense of foreboding that hung in the stale air.
Kiba was casually tossed into a cell, left to fend for himself.
Weak and sluggish from the blood loss, Kiba was a hair's breath away from passing out.
Yet, even in this desperate situation, his ninja training didn't let him give up hope. Kiba strained his senses, capturing snippets of the hushed whispers and distant conversations among the slave traders.
"Ah, hopefully those noble guests don't burn through the goods too fast this time."
"Heh, won't that be better? More Ryo for us."
"Oi, you two! Quit yapping and stay on your toes. The next auction is in three days, and we better make sure nothing goes wrong or else..."
Kiba's blood boiled at the mention of the auction. Three days. Three days of uncertainty, trapped in this hellish labyrinth, at the mercy of heartless men.
And three days to get out. It wasn't much time. Kiba cursed silently, his mind racing, desperately seeking an escape plan, his mind getting more groggy every passing moment...
"Damn it... I won't let them break us..." Kiba muttered under his breath, "We'll find a way out of here... no matter what it takes, right Akamaru?"
No answer.
Facing the encroaching darkness, all alone, a glimmer of hope couldn't help but flicker in Kiba's mind, "Yo... for once, I hope Shino bugged me, allowing my location to be tracked..."
Then, the dog boy sunk into the recesses of darkness.
