Chapter 255: Chapter 255: Ai Er's Commanding Aura
Federation Calendar, Year 7504, October 7th.
Today marked Ai Er's departure for the campaign. Feng Mo had come to the starport to see her off. For the first time, Feng Mo was not joining an expedition. As an interstellar lord overseeing three starfields, he couldn't afford to personally attend every campaign—it would wear him out.
So, rather than accompanying the fleet himself, Feng Mo had summoned Ai Er to his quarters the previous night to discuss the details of her mission.
After seeing Ai Er off, Feng Mo returned alone to his office at the base and brought up the star map, specifically locating the Radiant Star System. There, he started analyzing potential tactics for the impending campaign.
With the Storm Alliance withholding support, the Starsea Federation was now in a weakened state, relying solely on the Southern War Zone and its three core fleets to stall the Interstellar Mechanoids. However, they were spread too thin to reinforce the Federation's central fortress.
Thus, the central war zone's sole defense lay in a single quasi-T6 fleet and seven T5 fleets. These eight fleets were contributions from the Radiant Empire in the central zone and the remaining empires in the northern zone.
The quasi-T6 fleet was essentially the Radiant Empire's last resort. The three empires deployed their fleets to the fortress mainly to fulfill the Federation's request. If they managed to hold, fine; if not, they had their explanations prepared.
Feng Mo saw this plainly, as did each empire's strategic advisors. Once the Pan-Human Alliance broke through the interstellar fortress, their next move would be to march southward, aiming to annihilate the fleets in the Southern War Zone and the Federation's forces there.
The strategic need for a unified front was apparent, and it demanded a leader. This led the Radiant Empire to form an alliance with the Snowfield and Rosede Empires, intending to resist the Storm Alliance.
However, they underestimated the connection between Feng Mo and the Qiao family of the Radiant Empire. Though the two sides had not been in direct contact for years to avoid suspicion, the Qiao family was firmly on Feng Mo's side.
Outwardly, the Qiao family appeared to be a loyal faction in the Radiant Empire, even voting in favor of the alliance with Snowfield and Rosede. Their loyalty masked a quiet betrayal, as they recognized that supporting Feng Mo aligned with their best interests.
As Feng Mo waited for the campaign's outcome, the central war zone's fortress was struggling against an onslaught from twenty T5 fleets. The eight defending fleets had no choice but to rely on the fortress's defenses to wear down the attackers.
The battle was intense but brief, lasting only three hours before the Pan-Human Alliance fleet shattered the fortress. The Radiant Empire's forces, anticipating this, promptly withdrew before their defenses could collapse entirely.
The seven retreating fleets each lost nearly a hundred T5 ships. The Pan-Human Alliance's losses were even higher due to their offensive role; the fortress managed to destroy nearly three hundred T5 ships.
In the end, the Alliance's fleet of twenty reorganized and moved forward with eighteen remaining fleets.
The Alliance had now breached the Radiant Empire's territory. Their next objective was the outer edges of the Radiant Empire, where a small interstellar fortress had been established.
At this fortress, the forces of the Yunshan, Meteor, Radiant, and Storm Empires had gathered. Gu Jun, the Radiant Empire's commander, voluntarily relinquished command to Ai Er, who took up the mantle of Supreme Commander for the United Fleet without hesitation.
The fortress now held ten T5 fleets, along with the Storm Fleet, a mix of T6 and T5 ships—eleven fleets in total. Despite the looming threat of the Pan-Human Alliance, they remained calm and prepared.
The Alliance's Supreme Commander was the legendary strategist Mordesai, a seasoned warrior of the Interstellar Beastkin. Sitting on his flagship, he received reports on their recent conquest of the interstellar fortress. To the Alliance, these losses were manageable.
After the report, Mordesai ordered, "The fleet will not advance southward just yet. First, we're heading to the edge of the Radiant Empire. I hear they've set up a small fortress there, and rumor has it the Storm Fleet is stationed. I'd like to see the renowned Federation First Fleet up close."
His aide hesitated before responding, "Sir, the Alliance instructed us to move southward immediately after capturing the fortress…"
But the aide fell silent as Mordesai's icy gaze met his. Known for his uncompromising demeanor, Mordesai was rumored to have killed over thirty aides for daring to challenge his commands.
"Yes, Commander! I'll order the fleet to proceed to the Radiant Empire's border fortress!"
When the Alliance fleet finally appeared on the fortress's radar, Ai Er's normally stoic expression softened into a stunning smile, momentarily entrancing her nearby aides.
The night before, she and Feng Mo had discussed whether the Alliance would continue its advance to the fortress. They ended up making a wager, with both sides betting on the outcome. Ai Er had bet that the Alliance would indeed push forward—and now, she had won.
Smiling, Ai Er forwarded the radar images to Feng Mo before resuming her composed demeanor.
The alarm sounded, and all eleven fleets lifted off, with Ai Er taking her place in the command center of the Vermilion Ape. The tactical display was crowded with video feeds, one for each of the eleven commanders and a separate channel for the ship captains.
As the flagship of the United Fleet, the Vermilion Ape had access to every channel. Soon, a video request came through from the enemy flagship, and without hesitation, Ai Er accepted.
"Well, well, a succubus commander," Mordesai's voice rumbled as his image appeared—a towering, tiger-headed beastkin with a muscular frame. "You must be Ai Er Plan, the Storm Empire's top general."
"Yes, I am Ai Er Plan. And I assume you're Commander Mordesai?"
The tiger-headed beastkin was a rare sight among the Interstellar
Beastkin, marking him unmistakably as the famed Mordesai.
